Are we becoming too dependent on technology?

Not reading all that because I don't need to.

I was around when Y2K was sending people into a mass hysteria and then nothing happened.

Now, the concept of a proper Y2K is something to be concerned about. Smart homes. Smart phones. Smart toilets. Smart trains. Smart Airplanes. It never ends. It's ruined an entire generation and the later half of Millennials. Gov't has their hand on the button for control in all of those areas.

MSM celebrates being fat and then advertises for all the food delivery apps, so you don't even have to make the trip from your house to your car. Instagram and TikTok are your constant source of entertainment, resulting in a never ending feed of garbage. Twitter does the same.

Your worth is measured by how many likes on a tweet you have. How many followers your Youtube carries. You are literally nothing but a number and continue to submit to that because you have no fucking self respect.

Take me back to 2000. I hate cellphones. I hate social media. I hate Apps. Give us the free talk on the weekends on landlines and the lack of need to bring our cell phones with us everywhere. Bring back AIM, GeoCities, Angelfire, LiveJournal, myspace. You will never understand kino like you experienced when trying to read a website that was self-made with a bright blue background and yellow font colors.

Try to search for a non-electronic thermometer. You'll be flooded with results for a bunch of electronic digital garbage.

Try to search for a safe with a mechanical dial combination lock. You'll be flooded with results for a bunch of electronic digital garbage.

A wind-up mechanical alarm clock? Good fucking luck finding one.

And I'm starting to see a horrifying shift from [product originally invented over 100 years ago, with no reason to have internet connectivity, supports internet connectivity] to [product originally invented over 100 years ago, with no reason to have internet connectivity, now requires internet connectivity to even function]

I'm something of a Luddite, at least with shit that wouldn't massive inconvenience my life. There are several things where I refuse to rely on the 'smart' option, as it just doesn't seem any fucking faster or convenient provided you're not a retard.

There's also a 'pleasure' aspect from some elements of technology avoidance. If you can appreciate the 'art' in the fundamentals, that's reason enough to avoid the digital analogue (hehe.)

For instance, nothing could get me to use a digital/smart tablet to keep my diary on, as opposed to a physical book, with a fountain pen, writing in cursive. The latter is a joyous experience, and is bursting with pleasure from the simple act of doing. You drop a tablet and it might die; only fire is cleansing a book to the point of unusability.

Physical books over Kindle/other counterparts, writing over typing in all manners, language learning over AI translation/Google Lens, you get the picture.
