Are we protecting Chris from further harm?

I have been wondering if the forums and its strict rules against trolling and trolling plans have been in a sense protecting Chris? Considering the cwcki is the real last Internet place of Chris related relevance, have we helped him by preventing any negative interaction?

We really aren't protecting him. The rules are in place more to hold ourselves to a high standard than to protect him.

Attempting to protect Chris is a futile effort. He'll actively resist anything that is done in his best interest, no matter what form that takes.

I don't think that we are preventing any further trolling of Chris. People can still try to mess with him as much as they want, they're simply not allowed to talk about it here. I don't think that trolling poses any harm to Chris (so long as you don't go into BlueSpike territory). If he'll get a new fake girlfriend the troll would try to get some lols out of Chris, end the "relationship" eventually and OPL would return to his usual business.

There are plenty of other places on the internet where people who want to troll Chris can coordinate with each other. The only thing that has really prevented him from falling prey to more troll plots is his increasing paranoia and reclusiveness (or, maybe even more simply, just the fact that Barb doesn't let him out of her sight for extended periods of time anymore).

This said, I don't actively troll Chris. He does that well enough himself.

I thought that the no trolling rule was just another way to troll him. Chris gets to read every little thought we get here about every little aspect of his life in an easy to read discusion format. Some of his past nemesis are here and yet the line is drawn just short of revealing the next great plot against him (if there is any). It's indirect trolling at it's finest!

There's a few reasons for the rule.

1) I want to protect my ass and Null's ass from any liability. If we did have trolling plans posted on the board, and Chris got his act together and somehow managed to get a competent lawyer, he could charge us with harassment or something like that. I realize it would be hard to prove but it's a lot more difficult to prove this if we don't allow trolling plans at all. I don't want to have to go to court or have Null go to court because we were running a forum that encouraged harassing an autistic manchild.

2) I realize Chris reads this forum and I want him to realize that not everyone is out to get him, that not everyone wants to murder him in his sleep but that there are just some eccentric people who enjoy talking about him and are morbidly interested in him.

3) I've seen trolling plans in the past an 99.99% of the time they suck. You get shit like "Hey, I'm going to be Liquid but I'm going to be a black guy" or "I'm going to be Ivy but I'm going to have blonde hair" and of course perennial favorites like "Let's dig up Patty." It's real shitty stuff, it usually fucks up more well thought up trolling, and it ruins things for everyone. And that's in the off chance they actually get through to Chris.

4) I know the people who troll Chris and one of their favorite hobbies is finding people who want to troll Chris and fucking around with them with fake info and the like. It's amusing, but I don't want well meaning people who are a bit naive about how Chris trolling works to get trolled themselves.

And of course, like I said, this is all to maintain some quality control and to prevent this forum from turning into an EPIC WEEN fest. I think one of the downfalls of the earlier Offshore CWCki was that people talked about trolling plans and all it did was encourage people to troll the forums and fuck around with the would be trolls.

I really can't support people trying to troll Chris. I realize that people are going to try no matter how much pleading I do to implore them not too. I just don't want them talking about it here, we're just here to talk about Chris because we're odd cats like that.
