Are you disillusioned with voting? - To vote? Or not vote?

In my country we vote like every 4 month.
It's mostly on projects and laws.
I can't seem to care when it comes to electing people I know nothing about tho.

Voting, like democracy, works best when political differences between people stay manageable, that is, when they have disagreements over means but have a common idea of how things should be run. This gets harder because historical/cultural/geographical/etc. differences increase the larger the population/territory is. You should focus on regional elections IMO because you have a better chance to influence them.

I believe in voting even when I’m in an area completely different from what I believe.

Federal voting is a lost cause, provincial voting is still worth the effort, municipal voting actually matters.

I’ve found the closer government is to me the more I need to pay attention to it. Most of the government actions that have affected me in a noticeable way have come from my local municipal government.

I have come to accept that democracy is the actual problem.

Most people are stupid, and if most people want something in a democratic system, they get it. No matter how stupid or shortsighted it is.

We would never give a class full of 8 year olds an equal vote on what to do with their day because they would just want to eat ice cream, watch YouTube and play Roblox. We wouldn't do that because we know kids are fucking stupid. But now we have to pretend everyone over 18 isn't stupid?

Also, if you strongly support the concept of private property, know that it's ultimately incompatible with democracy. Nothing stops the masses from voting away your rights to said property, through increased taxes, regulations or outright confiscation "for the greater good".

On a side note if I dont vote in ny shithole you get your licence suspended and a fine so thats pretty homosexual

Fun fact: Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, later named Osho is convicted of marriage fraud and was involved with a bioterrorism attack in The Dalles, Oregon back in the 1980s. There's a Forensic Files episode about it. He's absolutely not someone who should speak about the inefficiencies of democracy, because he was a confirmed and convicted cult leader.

Back on topic though for anyone who cares about USA local politics:

All the spots in my municipality for local elections are almost always uncontested, and local news coverage is very limited for stuff like judges who are up for reelection alongside roles like comptroller, councilmen, state congress representatives, that kind of thing.

The representatives and elected officials for my own municipality are... well, they're not abhorrent but most of them are career politicians who've run more or less uncontested since the late 1990s/early 2000s. It wasn't until the mid 2010s (i.e. 2015-2017) when the first batch of them either died, retired, or somehow got voted out.

I still make it a point to vote if my work schedule permits me, but I'll tell you this right now: any time I see someone interesting in a local election that challenges the incumbent, it's a landslide loss against the challenger because they're self-funded and the incumbent is a corrupt scumbag.

It's not voting that disillusions me, it's everything surrounding political debate. The media bias, the corporate angle, the outright cheating, that's one thing.

But everyone is now expected to lie, all the time, if they care about politics. I don't mean politicians, I mean the most basic nobodies around.

You must be constantly posturing, lying about what you really want and expect out of candidates, lying about your honest opinions of things, particularly with regards to controversial issues. If you have any unpopular opinions (at least if you're on the right) you must keep those to yourself otherwise you will be shut up one way or the other if you make the mistake of having your opinion attached to your identity.

Couple this with how everyone is aware of this, but one of the reasons we justify all kinds of international meddling is 'We have to protect democracy' and it's clear we're now living in some kind of fucked up Terry Gilliam's Brazil world.

I've always been to vote but oftentimes not voted as such. In the UK (I know, we suck) we still use paper ballot slips and pencil to fill out. So I will frequently deface my ballot with a drawing of a throbbing, turgid stiffy.

That said: all the parties are the same and none of them mean anything. It's all a system designed to split and divide us. There's no real difference.

Hence why the United States was supposed, in theory, to be a federal system where states could largely manage their own affairs. Because when you have a federal government trying to force one worldview on all of them, you end up with the current situation of polarization + destabilization. All these high flying ideals about public discourse and voting and etc. don't mean very much when the voters no longer agree on basic reality.

Anyways. I've never voted and at this point I never will. Don't think my reasons really need much explanation. As far as what you can do instead, fedposting excluded--sit patiently and wait for it to collapse. That's literally all you can do.

Voting IS an illusion. If you are a man with two balls, you do something yourself to improve your situation. Dont vote for somebody in hope he will improve yours.

its that magical time that comes every 4 years or so where you have to tell many many people who normally do not go out of their way to interact with you that you would like for them to fuck off

If you're still wasting time going to vote after 2020, you truly are a retard that should just suck on a shotgun.

Imagine going to a major city polling station and this is who's there maintaining it and believing your vote is going to be counted.

So far I've only voted so that the lesser evil may win. This is a stupid strategy, I know.

local and state level depending on state I am not entirely shitter shattered, but I genuinely don't give a fuck about the presidential elections anymore. I'll still throw my vote for the orange man but I don't have high hopes they won't just "fortify" it again.
