My "non military" deer rifle is a lot more accurate and packs a heavier punch than "military grade" weapons. Oh and it's semi automatic too.

It's never going to happen though. It's too easy to get gun's into America. Any gun ban is effectively unenforceable. that's not even factoring in the ones already here.
And nothing else. You'd be banning any decent form of self defense for the sake of maybe knocking down mass shootings, an already exceedingly rare thing if you don't count gangs killing each other, a nominal amount. You'd probably end up with more people dead who were unable to protect themselves without a gun than lives you'd save from mass shootings.
