Medicine is one of those things you really, really want to be properly funded and meritocratic.

Medicine's the one thing I'll agree with socialists on, since you need a strong and healthy population to maintain a strong and healthy economy. If a person gets severely injured, or comes down with a debilitating disease, there should be more than enough funding in the system already to help them get back on their feet. Dr. Poonani won't be able to afford his third yacht, but that's okay, because those funds can go towards helping a hundred people who'd otherwise get decimated and lose their possessions and livelihoods.

Insurance isn't a solution, either. Even co-pays are outstandingly high. The whole system is broken beyond belief.

I don't think these titles are a good idea in 2023. Doubling down on this sort if shit is idiotic and misguided. Some things should be clarified in a transparent manner.

Earlier in the thread there was mention of BCG(TB vaccine) being routinely given in the USA. Is this indeed the case?

The reason I ask is that I remember learning at university that the US was the one country that did not routinely give BCG because it would interfere with the tuberculin screening test for TB.

Has this policy changed? (30 years have passed since I was an undergraduate, so that may well be the case).

Canada doesn't really use BCG either, except the very isolated Arctic Inuit towns.

Every BCG scar I've ever seen has been in foreigners.
