This recent story out of the Telegraph is tough to read. A young mother from Northern England took the defective AstraZeneca vaccine and died from a brain hemorrhage shortly after, leaving behind a 6 year old son.

I always believed that most covid vaccines were probably safe (albeit ineffective) for most people to take. But there's no doubt now that many people should have passed.

Sadly it was more important for NPCs to demonize "anti-vaxxers" than it was to have a nuanced public discussion about the potential problems with this "completely safe and effective" vaccine.

They are pretty damn safe. The incidence of adverse effects is low, and that of severe side effects is really, really tiny. There are a lot of things that I can't pronounce myself on, but I have access to medical statistical data for a whole semi-large city and the adjacent industrial area, and I've been really, really suspiciously eyeing it for 2 years now, although it has gotten really boring. I also have the "lived experience" from inside the hospital, and I just don't see much out of the ordinary, with some exceptions:
- there seems to be a rather significant incidence of cardiac malfunction events for younger, especially athletic people. But you see, that is really not saying much, because all these people caught COVID like 4-5 times by now, many are not vaccinated cause this is not West EU and my country had together with Bulgaria the lowest vax absorption rates in EU. The vaccinated often had one AZ or 2 Pfizers, and called it quits. The boosted population is basically inexistent.
- COVID is often a subtle disease for most healthy people, and it requires testing to make sure it's COVID and not one of the gorillion influenza strains in circulation. However, it has a peculiar inflammatory profile, and it's not uncommon to lose some cardiopulmonary function each time you get it. From personal experience, that's temporary, but it can take months to regain full performance if you are an athlete even if your COVID was super-mild.
Efficiency by now is pisswater levels cause there are so many variants and subvariants in circulation that evade the vaccines. There's a discussion to have about preventing hospitalization, but I have only seen like 10 people (deathfat and old) hospitalized with COVID this year. That is exceptionally low.
Considering urban populations have humongous amounts of antibodies now (yes even if you think you didn't get, you almost certainly did), there's almost no point recommending it.

Our local anti-corruption government body has demanded the lifting of immunity from the former prime minister and some health ministers that were involved in the very hush hush deals with vax makers (mostly Pfizer), which resulted in a gorrillion of extra doses purchased and major loss for basically all EU countries, which did the same suspicious over-purchasing. It's worse in Romania as we have the second worst absorption rate after Bulgaria, so everyone sane knew that the population will not vaxxmaxx as enthusiastically as in the West.

If this goes to a trial it will be pretty huge and it'll result in further exposure of these backroom deals that enriched these pharma corpos.
I am keeping my expectations low, cause these are top end political elites, and I suspect the anti-corruption agency is going after them cause they are from the Liberal Party and its progressive allies, and now the PM is a socdem (ruling in coalition with Libs, but the Libs are seriously weakened and into severe bad polling territory, so diminished political power to protect their own).
Obviously, I want all of this made public and spilling into the rest of EU.
