See even back then I thought they were really bad. They just didn't offer anything I haven't seen or heard before, and Arin's take on it was not entertaining.Because back in 2006 swearing nonstop, roasting video game tropes, and potty humor were at peak popularity and absolutely rampant on sites like Newgrounds and Youtube. The standards for quality animation were also way lower with the vast majority of entries being MSPaint-tier garbage. This is especially apparent when you look at stuff from current great artists like Oney, Spazkid, Harry, and Psychicpebbles back then; most of it is insanely amateurish compared to what they're doing today. I'm not saying the Awesome series was great, but it was good enough in all of the right ways that most of the NGbase ate it up back then.
The main reason why most people's opinions on the Awesome series have soured over the years isn't just because standards are higher in general, but also because it's now a reminder of all of the potential Arin threw away as an aspiring artist when he chose to invest into the Game Grumps. When you look at the Newgrounds timelines from the artists I mentioned above you see a beautiful metamorphosis from high school/undergrad tier doodles to unique, professional styles that have been continually refined for over a decade. Compare that to Arin's channel which suddenly nosedived in quality and activity early into 2012 when he started getting busy founding GG with Jon.
Also, I didn't get any comments on my reddit post.
