Overflowing fan sperging will just
do things to people, especially with e-celebs. With regular celebrities, they have managers, PR advisors, and other people who are actually around to do their job and cover for their client, rather than have their client make things worse.
Arin's got the exact opposite problem, his fanbase is so small but so stark-raving mad and obsessed due to Arin's e-celeb status and Ego's own superfluous autistic attitude/bit he puts on for their show that they will bury anybody who stands in their way. Doesn't matter if it's through a screen, at a convention....doesn't even matter if nobody else knows about the Game Grumps: they will make sure that you
know who they are, and know how much they love Arin and Dan and anyone associated with them, because "we're totes friends guys, and friends never do anything wrong". Because that's the message that him and Dan cultivated after 4+ years.
Combine that with the backlash and a thorough beating of their fans' collective psyche over the handling of Jon's departure and the Etsy Scandal respectively, and you got yourself fans with low self-esteem, battered wife syndrome over a LP channel, and a nice little metaphorical honey pot for the dangerhair Twitter users and Tumblrinas to flock to en masse. They're like horseflies.
Hell, the one time one of their communities finally tries to clean itself up after having nothing happen there for years, where half of the automated stuff was broken, they couldn't give less of a shit; they
want stagnation, because that's all they know. And they will try to not let anything nor anyone break that facade...well, that or they ignore it outright.
