I know we all want to believe Game Grumps is losing popularity and Jontron is outperforming them, but let's take a look at reality for a second.

Game Grumps views are way low compared to their subscriber count! People must be losing interest! Not really. If you look at other big channels that put out daily content, having about one in ten subscribers watch each video is pretty common. Game Grumps has about 5 million subscribers so 500k is about expected.

But Jontron gets ten times as many views as Game Grumps! Jontron has about the same number of subscribers and gets 10x as many views, but he puts out videos so rarely that of course his videos are gonna get more views. If he put out a video each day he'd see a large drop in views per video as well.

Well Jon is still getting more views regardless so he's still winning, right? Nope. If Jon puts out one video a month and gets 5 million views per video, then he gets 5 million views per month. If Game Grumps puts out a video a day ( about 30 videos a month) and gets 500,000 views per video, then they get 15 million views per month. That means Game Grumps is being watched three times as much as Jontron.
Ah thanks for that. I was honestly more confused as to why they stay at 500k but you really helped me figure it out.
It should have been obvious to me, my bad.

I do not have a horse in the race, but wouldnt this mean its a core set of people watching the game grumps, while johntron has more unique viewers? Sure its the a similar bottom line. But there is a difference there.

I don't think it means that only 10% of subscribers actually watch the videos. I think it's more like 30% of subscribers actually watch the videos, but each of those loyal fans will only watch one out of three videos, so it works out to 10% as many views as total subscribers. Obviously I don't know what the real number is so I'm just pulling 30% and one in three out of the air as an example to illustrate my point. It could be 20% and one in two videos, or 50% and one in five, but the math will work out to be 10%, my point being there are more fans than 10%, but they don't each watch every video.

Yes, I guarantee you that more people are coming to the yard for Jontron's milkshakes, whereas Game Grumps has the same smaller group of people (which is still a pretty impressive number, mind you) obsessively coming to their yard every day.

Also, an important thing to keep in mind. Game Grumps used to get more views per video. More old people are losing interest (while staying subscribed, which is pretty common, look at Mundane Matt's channel) than new people are tuning in. Unless they turn things around somehow, they've peaked. They were near the very top of youtube channels, so they've got a long way to fall before they have to worry about their bottom line, but they have declined.

Typically that is how it works.

Oh, I get that. However, an artist's reputation will affect how well their sales do - and Arin's reputation hasn't been as great as he'd like to think in recent years. I wonder how he'll react if his art prints do no better than the other art prints they have up for sale on their merch site (given his arrogance, I can't imagine he'd handle that well).

If they played real games other then exceptional meme games maybe theyd get some views.

Even crappy games can be fun to watch/listen to if the ones playing them have the right kind of energy/humor to keep the audience engaged. The Grumps used to have that energy; but have gone stagnant over the years - whether due to their 'hectic' schedules leaving them drained, or switching up their brand of humor to appease 'the algorithm', going uber PC in order to avoid offending their super sensitive audience or believing fans love Arin's excessive rages and Dan's apparent growing boredom.

Point being; it wouldn't matter what they'd play nowadays, until the hosts wake up and acknowledge their waning views have to do with their own machinations, the views will continue to drop.

These are both valid points and now the video is up to... 80k views.
Am I just bad with numbers or should a channel like GG have more views?
Not because of the quality of the video, but because of their subscriber count and fanbase?
Jontron usually only uploads every month or two, so his content is still fresh, unlike GameGrumps who upload constantly.

If you see a new Jontron video it's an exciting event, if you see a Grumps video it's probably like the 10th part or so in a series you haven't watched and have no interest in starting.

Just because they have a 5mil+ sub count doesn't mean that all those people are still active subs.

10th part in a series that somehow hasn't made all that much progress. That could be blamed on the uploads being 10-15 minutes, max per episodes - thus not giving enough time to make much progress; but it really isn't. It all comes down to Arin wasting time goofing off and ignoring in game guides, then forgetting what he was supposed to be doing and getting annoyed with the game for not telling him what he was supposed to be doing.

When comparing a Game Grumps playthrough to how another Let'sPlay channel handles a game, it amazing to see just how much time is wasted on Arin's BS shenanigans.

I think they're only playing games like that because they're cheap as hell and they're running out of money as it is. Luckily for them the crazies will watching anything they make

So I'm not going through thousands of videos to see this, but did they play that game Arin voiced in that giant bomb pissed on?

Its just so hard to even laugh at how pitiful Egoraptor is at this point. He sold out his past for money and clout, a story that isnt even unique. Like what is his actual passion at this point? is he even a real human being, and not some homunculus that dances for the entertainment of mentally ill people and children?

Late? Guy's been a youtuber for years.

I'd argue that there are youtubers that you can actually see the passion coming out of them. like that puppet guy that talks about nintendo.
I’d like to point out that the puppet guy has collabed with avgn, out of all people.
It’s fucking crazy.

That's not a valid excuse since they've had tons of rare and well-loved shit being sent to them by sycophants every single week for over 7 years now.
True but you can't milk easy laughs from good games, can ye

I just wanted to point out that this has been pinned to the front page of r/egoraptor for three years now and I don't think there's been any news about it since this announcement. Another Spoony movie?

But but but, Arin has ADHD, and hes working super hard on it. Cant criticize him until it's done. Besides itll be the greatest masterpiece in the world because Arin is so talented.
