This is a response to the current round of youtube bullshit over the last ~30 days (not paying creators, randomly demonitizing content, unclear rules about monetization and rules being changed retroactively) plus the huge pile of bullshit they're looking to setup in January 2020 around COPPA and Kid's Content.

Arin/Grumps already realize this and have tendrils in other platforms and business avenues, as ill-conceived though they may be. Arin has been trying to branch out from YouTube for at least 3 years already.

Additionally, that Youtube RED show looks awful, but they must have gotten paid decently for it which puts them in a very small circle as far as Youtube goes (I think it's them, Markiplier, formerly PewDiePie, etc that got shows). While the average youtuber might not be able to survive on just youtube, Game Grumps might based on youtube investing in them specifically.

Arin's problem isn't referenced in that tweet (which suggests diversifying revenue streams) because Arin actually has some decent diversity. Arin's real problem is that while his company likely makes decent money - it isn't realistically making enough to support a staff of ~30 people, many of which have very dubious job titles/responsibilities.

We all know that YouTube's algorithms never make mistakes and that Google is always helpful in rectifying them and protecting content creators. Grumps will be safe because they're big/well known enough, along with a prior working relationship through Good Game, for Google to actually take notice and listen to them and protect their channel. Supposedly, if the new algorithm flags something as "for kids," creators won't be able to appeal. I would imagine if you're big enough, that rule doesn't apply, but it will hurt a lot of smaller creators.
