It's not like Google Image Search doesn't have tools that would allow Ben to specify that he's looking for specific licenses, or that there aren't plenty of stock image websites out there he could've used. As a relatively well-known business that's the least amount of professionalism GG could show, I think.

Don't be so hard on him - it's not like the company is staffed with artists that all should be familiar with all of these licenses, requirements, and resources. This is probably the first time this has ever happened to GG or any other Let's Play group they are friends with.

Rip

Imagine if PewDiePie threw his long-time fans under the bus only to get surpassed by a much more worthy channel, it would probably be something like this
Of course the #1 most faved artist on Newgrounds draws porn.

Either way, Tom Fulp is unironically a great dude. Newgrounds might not be as popular as it was, but it still has principles and a spine, unlike most sites online.

Or Arin, someone who in the past drew things, draw it himself. I know he wouldn't because that requires he put in some effort in his work, and he hasn't tried that since before Jon left GG.

Compare that to Oneyplays, where Oney makes full 3d characters in Zbrush just to be used for the thumbnails. I don't think any other let's play channel puts half that much effort into it's thumbnails.

Yup, most let's players just commission if they want a high quality "cartoony" thumbnail, but if the Let's Player is an artist themselves then it's great because they cut the costs of commissioning anything and just do it themselves. Yet Arin decides to just waste more money on hiring animators/artists to draw their shitty cartoon Grump personas that he could just do himself due to the simplicity of their design (at least, they used to be simple).

It’s great to see them almost reach 750K subs, I have to wonder how long it’ll take them to reach a full million. Maybe in a year or two?

Also, speaking of numbers.... Soviet Jump Game still can’t muster enough players to fill a full match unless Arin’s streaming it. At this point I doubt it’ll ever leave early access.

The animations are the only thing that gets good consistent views on the channel. They’re never horrible, there’s some talent behind them.

I was mainly talking about their intro and thumbnails with their Grump heads (they're more like Grump bodies now...Grump people?). I'll agree that GG animated is probably the only watchable show on their channel at this point, plus it helps animators get exposure, even if they end up being degenerate *cough* Shmorky *cough*.

It is really weird how they changed the art style of the Grump heads for no reason.

And when he gets the opportunity to use an artist's work - free of charge (in exchange for source credit) - he throws out the art and pays someone else to make him something.

Not even kidding. That mess that was that turtle thubnail has an update. The artist was perfectly fine with the Grumps using the art, as long as they (the artist) got credit for the work (via that source link) if the Grumps weren't willing to comepensate them on a financial level (something artists aren't known for doing - but, hey; free advertsiement from a popular Youtube channel would go a long way). The artist even claimed to have tried to contact them to discuss this.

Instead, The Grumps ignored the artist and just changed the thumbnail. Guess they didn't want to share their pay pigs with a young artist. Maybe things would have worked out differently if they had a significant following the Grumps could exploit.

ToaTom (the artist’s husband) said:
Sammy was actually in tears last night when they changed the thumbnail.

Not because they changed the thumbnail.

But because they had clearly seen our posts and acted on it, yet completely chickened out of making any contact with her about it.
What assholes.

EDIT: Holy shit, there's actually people telling them they should stop making a stink and should feel grateful that the Grumps stole their art.
