I've been thinking about Matt and Ryan's editing and I remember people getting upset by the amount of editing mistakes, yet I don't remember there being many errors in their own work or the stuff they edited for Oney plays.
What do you think made it harder to work on GG stuff for them? Does Arin demand they use a certain editing tool or something?

Going by the recent editing standards, Arin doesn't' give a fuck. When you have better shit to do and your boss doesn't give a shit about the quality of your work, then people will slack off. I don't really blame them, who the fuck would want to watch GG unedited?
It reminds of that episode of King of The Hill when Hank was describing the two types of bosses; The one that gets things done even if they have to be a hard-ass sometimes and the one that's everyone friend right until everything comes crashing down around them. I don't think it's a hard guess to see which one more accurately fits Arin...though he did drop Projared and Jontron like a ton of bricks at the first sign of trouble, that was pretty cold of him to do.
Yeah but Jared and Jon are the big evil. His other friends are clearly just too cool to be fired.
Ben doesn't do anything bad, guys. He just is terrible at his job...
I wonder if he has some kind of blackmail on Arin and Dan?

Nah, it's just they didn't have to go through the footage to find good clips so they didn't notice the issues if there were any. Just take the raw, clip it at the times indicated on the session sheet, queue them for Adobe Media Encoder, set it and forget it, OOPS, ALL GARBLED VIDEO AND BLACK FRAMES AND AUDIO ERRORS!
And since Arin will never do retakes in those situations and doesn't save scum in case of recording issues, what you see is what you get. Because fuck quality.
They had to edit GG related stuff, OneyPlays related stuff AND their own channel. Of course, as the burden lessened (OneyPlays leaving) they made fewer mistakes yet added more hidden gags like tiny faces or an incredibly quiet fart sound during Danny's monologue. From the looks of it, they sounded like they had fun working with GameGrumps, but the workload seemed pretty heavy for them.
The juicy secrets I want to know specifically are the awkward encounters of OneyPlays and the GameGrumps rando employees during Dream Daddy. Or hell just any encounter really, because the current crew we have now seems insufferable to be around.

Given that every editor after Barry has had noticeable problems I've seen speculation that there's something messed up about their set up that makes editing harder.

It's been a while since I've seen his edits but I remember Kevin being competent at the very least. However, he was trained by Barry and worked alongside him for a good amount of time too. But this is going back to when fucking steam train was still a thing so forgive my fuzziness.
Also it's really good to once again see the NG boys winning. Not only because I like their work, but we know arin has to be seething like no other.
A good cherry on top would be seeing Bowlbo, Nightmare Cops (Tom Fulps new game being worked on by Oney, Spazkid, and JonnyUtah), and whatever Ding Dong and Julian are working on release and blow dream daddy and Soviet dumping grounds out of the water.
Kevin's main issue was the lack of edits while making basic mistakes like leaving a 5-minute black screen at the end of the video because he forgot to cut the bit off during the rendering (SuperMega did this a lot more, but Kevin still had his share of mishaps); Or uploading the wrong version of videos. Yet none of that is anywhere near as awful as Ben's retarded editing choices.
Oh yeah when Oney plays was recorded there they kept losing footage I guess they have some overly complex setup that they have no idea how to use properly and isn't needed for let's plays.
I thought Jon explained he wanted to move back to NY for personal reasons.
Between their "political differences," Jon's attention to quality over quantity and expanding from 'le funny chubby videogame dude', it's obvious he needed to take the millstone off his neck.
I really don't understand this fanfic that Arin is too bloody stupid to follow basic directions and refuses to run his business as an actual business, but suddenly also he's The Godfather and has something on everyone who splits from him.

They’ve actually shown their capture/recording setup during one of their office tour videos (I think it’s the one where they badly try to rip off MTV). And it’s nothing but a dangled mess of bullshit wires and cables all strewn about, tangled to shit, and halfway broken: you’d think for a setup like that it’d be used for recording their music than for a Let’s Play, but then you see that NSP/StarBomb has its own separate room with its own nicer and cleaner equipment setup. And then it slowly dawns on you that most of that capture software and tangled mess of technological terror is solely for an unnecessary “switch between consoles” screen/setup so Arin doesn’t physically have to get up and switch the inputs, and all of Barry’s editing was just done through Adobe Premiere and nothing else, and then you die a little inside.
It’s like trying to program for old game dev code: Barry was the only one who specifically knew how everything in that Frankenstein’s setup worked and how and where everything needed to be to an almost obsessive degree that once he leaves and the new blood takes over, they’ve no idea how to actually use this shit and make it work. It was all made with Barry’s setup and “code” in mind, which would be incomprehensible to explain to any newbie. Especially with Kevin who they literally anonymously hired off the streets via a Skype call.
In a sense, Ben actually did the smart thing by taking down the old setup and starting from scratch. It’s just he forgot to replace it with anything...y’know, good.

Think you’ve got the “fanfic motive” a little mixed up here: it’s not that Arin’s some Machiavellian schemer who’s got dirt on anybody, it’s more he completely burns any bridge that he doesn’t like anymore with anyone for...reasons.
Reasons that nobody can figure out, save for him becoming an L.A. douchebag who forgot their roots in order to sell out to some failed channel manager (Brent) who promised Arin riches. And then subsequently began tanking his brand.
If anyone’s The Godfather in this relationship, it’d be Brent, not Arin. Brent is to an exceptional Don Corleone as Arin is to a horrible Framer who doesn’t know their role in the Mafia. In Town of Salem.
Going a bit off topic here, but apparently there's a bit of drama regarding NG again, this time not caused by Arin mind you, but the cause is equally (if not more) r.etarded:
As expected there are a few people calling this guy on its bullshit and others claiming NG is a cespool of "problematic" content, and Chris responded to the tweet directly:
On the other side of the fence, here we have Ross, and a special guest underneath:
Nothing out of the ordinary really, Chris standing for NG's reputation as always and Ross trying to reconcile both sides. The funny thing here is Arin not realizing the irony of him being dunked on a while ago and making a shitty joke regardless. Again, if this is what Ross is comfortable with while the NG guys are getting actual gigs, he might want to reconsider his decisions before it's too late. And yes, except for one tweet everyone is kissing Arin's ass (unless he filtered other replies and I didn't look further).
Besides, while the CalArts argument has its questionable origins (John K. being salty towardas anything that didn't appeal to his sensibilities), it's still stands in current times since almost every artist that likes to use those visual traits fall into some stereotypical traits too (i.e.: being a furry, a hardcore leftist, exceptionally concerned about its gender identity, etc.). And the "Newgrounds" style example it's fucking stupid since you can take one quick look through the site and very few people draw that way. And even then, the only few people I can think of that draw on a similar style are making something out of their careers (Bowlbo, Smiling Friends).

They're just salty Smiling Friends is exploding in popularity online. So much so that Adult Swim even put it up on their website for an undisclosed time because of it.
A small company dedicated to bringing happiness to the world receives a simple request to help a woman's unhappy son smile again, but the job turns out to be more complicated than it seems.

This is also the cusp of Steven Universe finally ending. It along with Adventure Time, Regular Show, and every other show called "CalArts style" has been wrung out of whatever value they had.
