If GG had a Patreon I can imagine they'd have no financial problems at all, but I think Arin hates Patreon or something.

For reference 'Continue?' A show running about as long as GG (even having a JonTron crossover while he was still on GG) but they'll pull less than 10k views sometimes, but they make 2500$ on Patreon.

If you have consistent and good content you can make a strong fan base. But GG's fan base seems like the people too young to see how awful Arin is.

I was so into 'Continue?' like 6-7 years ago. I still watch a handful of their videos a year, but I get bored fast. I was excited for their show they were making for Normal Boots but they made like 2 episodes...

As good an idea as opening a Patreon would be; the Grumps will never do it.

Besides, given their track record of never holding to a promise/schedule they would routinely announce, could anyone really trust them to honor the price tiers they'd set in place on Patreon?
Mega64 is so much smaller than GG and they still do more work than Arin and his 80 employees. I don't support anyone on Patreon, but Mega64 would be one if I did.

Same. I'm fucking shocked that they're still going.

Honestly Arin trying to make Game Grumps an actual company was stupid to begin with, all Arin had to do was keep the let's plays running with some merch along the side and he would've been fine, trying to make an independent company that's income is made mostly off of ad-revenue is ridiculous, especially with how unstable YouTube is as a platform even back then.

Yeah I find it odd that they haven't tried this, it probably is just because either Arin hates Patreon or thinks there'd be a lot of legal and financial shit that'd come with having a Patreon for revenue. It's weird that he wouldn't though, especially when you consider how much other companies that are built off of YouTube make like RedLetterMedia, which have tons of supporters and make a ton of money for what they do.

All the extra shit that Arin has done with Game Grumps is what's causing their money problems. Aside from the merch and the Starbomb albums just about everything Game Grumps has done outside of LPs has bombed. Soviet Jump Game failed, Dream Daddy got attention for like 2 weeks and was immediately forgotten about, and the YouTube Red series only got one season that nobody liked. Anyone with a halfway decent understanding of how YouTube works could tell you that basing and building up your entire company off of YouTube let's plays is a bad idea, but the fact that a large majority of everything Game Grumps has done outside of let's plays being a failure makes it even worse.

Like if Arin just kept doing the let's plays as just a single thing and kept all those video games, Starbomb albums, and all that other shit as just side stuff that was funded by extra ad-revenue, he'd probably be fine and his "company" wouldn't be in a shitty position like it is now.

I don't get why some YouTubers think that trying to independently build up a company off of their one YouTube channel is a good idea. Like Jirard Khalil AKA The Completionist tried to build his ThatOneVideoGamer company off of his main and let's play channel (the LP channel can barely crack 10k views a video nowadays) and then nearly went bankrupt during the Adpocalypse, it just barely had enough strength to safely stay afloat during tough times on YouTube and a handful of jobs could've been lost if they went under. With a platform as unstable as YouTube I'll never understand why people try to independently build up companies solely off of their channel without having some kind of safe financial backing other than ad-revenue and maybe merch sales.

To be fair, Completeman was using GameWisp while that was still alive as an additional source of income and transitioned to Patreon after GameWisp went under, so he's not nearly as bad as Arin and Game Grumps. Also Jirard's office/studio space is just the second floor of his father's business suit, if I recall correctly.

I do think that Jirard is running into the same problems as Arin by having way too many writers/editors and the quality of the product not reflecting that. Like, if it was just Jirard, Alex, Brett, and maybe two editors (the least bad ones, I don't know who that might be between Ted, Bradley, Megan, and Patrick, they're all baseline pretty terrible) he'd be a lot better off.

Would it matter? With the way their fans are, they'd probably say "They're letting you give them money for free! They don't owe you anything!"

Maybe not to some (there's always going to be Lovelies who are the 'ride or die' types who will make excuses for them); but for others, it would be the wake up call they need to see Game Grumps are not the golden idols they (the Lovelies) made them out to be.

Most people tend to care more when a significant amount of money is involved and they're getting nothing (or something incredibly subpar) in return. Given the inflated prices of everything they sell due to 'name branding' - you know they'd be charging way too much per tier (plus, they got all those 'friends' on the payroll, after all. Got to support them, too!). If Game Grumps were to fail to meet the promised tier goals they're charging a small fortune for often enough, they'd eventually end up losing a significant amount of Patroens and their reputation would get even more tarnished than it already is.

Tell that to DSP's paypigs. He constantly retcons things and goes back on things that viewers pay for (RQ'ing Persona, rigging viewers' choice polls etc.) and people still line up to throw money at him. If we recognize "retard strength," we should also recognize "retard solidarity." Once a group of tards latch onto something, they will do anything to keep hold of it/each other.

Off-topic, but that was less Jirard having bad business sense, and more Greg trying to starve Jirard of legacy views after trying to sue him for every video he ever appeared in. Jirard later decided the court battle wasn't worth the stress (despite friends, family and strangers alike telling him to go fight Greg on it) and privated all of the videos featuring Greg in them.

...Unfortunately he ended up doing that at the WORST possible time as his channel was still recovering from the Adpocalypse earlier that year.

Greg was the mega LULZ slap stick BEARS man right? What exactly happened with him? Why did he leave the neckbeard youtube channel & try to sue said neckbeard?

Basically his friendship with jirrad became more and more business only until Jirrad basically told him to give up more of his cut to him and fully end their friendship and just be partners. Greg said no so he was fired and then tried to sue for any future admoney coming from videos with him in them. Jirrad got rid of the videos and remade them all without greg

$15...for a can opener. can't imagine this is going to be a best seller.

They also had some masks up for grabs (sold out, apparently). According to the comments left on the tweet, they're incredibly impractical (the material used to make them will not protect a buyer from being exposed to Covid).

Nice to see Arin is throwing his stamp of approval on Suzys shit merchandise again. Expect the lovelies to "UwU it's not arins fault" anyone that criticizes.

Jesus, that design is so unreadable. It looks like cartoon soap suds from afar. Why exactly did they outline white with white and make no use of negative space?
Mildly autistic, but they expect people to buy and wear this. Someone got paid to make this (or maybe not with how their money situation's going).

At first glance it looks like a Halloween windbreaker with two little ghosts above the orange strip. What detailing there is on the back design, you have to shield your eyes and practically squint to see. I'd be curious as to how long those white designs would last before getting crackled and grungy.

That windbreaker design looks like its two washes away from peeling up. Ive seen chinese bootleg clothes with better quality.

Also that bottle opener is nightmare fuel.

Seriously, they have professional merch people on payroll, this shit isn't cute anymore. Guess they're lucky the lovelies' brand loyalty/obsessive parasocial relationship means they'll buy anything with the GG logo on it... stuff doesn't look well made at all, not technically and not design-wise.

Since Arin's such a total progressive you guise and their fans are mostly people with anime avatars with trans flags in the background, I'm surprised that their merch situation's this stable? Like, there's nothing I could find from a token glance around their website about sustainable, ethical sourcing of materials or merch production, so... Is it just a matter of time until some bored Twitter user makes a viral post calling for Arin to get gutted in a socialist revolution? Claiming that Arin spits on the small Lebanese children who print their shirts? :optimistic:

I couldn't find shit about it on their website and you know Arin would never shut his virtue signaling mouth about it if they did have something like that in place. "We're totally saving the planet and into progressive causes as long as it doesn't affect our bottom line!"

I don't give that much of a shit but Twitter and their leftie fans would. How have they not eaten Arin alive for this yet?
