I think the woman involved was fine with people being under the impression she was groomed into sex, but when news sources found her and started contacting her she realized she could get into very real trouble legally for spreading something this damaging when it's false. She could've clarified it the minute it blew up. She knew who she gave the information to. There's no way she wasn't keeping an eye on how things spread. It all got bigger than just cancelling a guy/ending his career and she didn't expect that. This is just my opinion, though.
