Armored Core

Tried your proposed scheme, but up and down were waaaay too sensitive so I'll just use the default. Thanks a ton for the suggestions though!

Edit to not doublepost: JESUS FUCK is ammo expensive! Got the shoulder chaingun tried it out and more than half of my bounty went into fucking amunition! Guess I'm back to missiles...
Welcome to why I usually go full energy when I can afford to. Zaps don't cost money (but they do have their own share of problems, like needing to be even more autistic with your energy and heat management).

Seems like it, at a minimum I'm bumping up the energy saber and getting a better engine methinks...

I would not be surprised if AC6 had missions they other players can invade similar to NPC ambushes in older games (or an online mode where two players are playing the same mission on opposite sides)
There was a video years ago now buried under all the AC6 shit where that happens. Guys join a co-op game. Takes the piss out of a guys fat red tank. Mirth turns to an "oh shit" moment when they're invaded by another team and their easy run goes to hell. In the end it's fat red mech that pulls out the victory by the skin of his teeth.

I never played it, heard it was just alright, but after having gone through Nioh and Code Vein I've noticed that being a soulslike does not equate me enjoying it.
I like The Surge games a lot. Especially 2. When I say that around certain souls fans (ie. autists) they fly into a rage.

Well, tism is going to tism... Like any fandom, when they take shit too seriously they become sourpusses. For now, From are the best with the formula but if I want to scratch that itch more than once every 3 years I have to look elsewhere.

Surge doesn't really call me already from an aesthetics standpoint (though it's good that they go with something that isn't derivative) and I am in no hurry to play a hypothetical Code Vein 2, but I am keeping attention on China Nioh and Lies of P.

I'm a huge soulsfag but I really hope that this isn't souls-like at all. I want something different from FROMSOFT

Here I am hoping they learned their lesson with the always online shit from V. Sure the idea of having clans and territory control was cool; but when the online died, the game got gimped hard. The inevitable "I was always into AC" from the Souls crowd is gonna give me a heart attack. You saw it with King's Field (which hardly anyone played when it was relevant) and if you try to talk about AC anywhere, you get bombarded with it not being relevant. But there's gonna be a deluge of "long-time fans" and I'm gonna see my collection go up in value (not selling, fuck you trend jumpers).

Though I am happy, mecha is a niche genre, and I've been wanting something for a while. Though, if Square would stop being retarded and do something with Front Mission (tactical, not that 3PS shit) I'd be happy.

Have most of you actually played Armored Core?
I've been Moonlight Blade-Beaming people since 1997. Had a friend and we'd do head-to-head arena shenanigans in AC2.

A question for the peanut gallery. What do you want for super powers; to be a PLUS or OP-INTENSIFY?

Is it possible to connect a ps4 controller to duck station? I’m playing armored core 1 but the keyboard controls are really shitty because you can’t use mouse.

Currently replaying FM3. I'm lucky in the I barely got into 4 (I hit a wall due to lack of grind and there were some emulation problems) and I've not touched 5, 2, or Gun Hazard so I have a lot of FM to catch up on.

Square and From have had the same problem. They went from a wide verity of IPs to farming their most popular IP. I understand why, but it would've been nice if they used those profits to make other games on the side.

So, coasted the first few missions and arena matches. Have upgraded everything except the core and my targetting system since I only use a rifle for now and beam saber is my main weapon. I am taking more damage than I should, I'm pretty mobile now but not good at dodging yet. And well, relying on melee is workable for now but I'll have to start getting used to other weapons sooner rather than later since trying to stab the speedier cores is an ordeal.

One of the things I'd love in AC6 is better melee in general, basically that a slash isn't linked to a quick forward boost. Don't know if that changed in later entries though. I do like the weight and also that I can't just lock on to a targer and pelt it, I have to keep it in my sights (and with how mobile some shit is, locking could be more a hindrance than help sometimes).

Getting used to not having double stick. Sometimes my head fucks with me but some very old muscle memory from AC1 is letting me manage fine for the most part, I don't reach for the right analog anymore for example.

Liking the game and the assembly process is really scratching an itch.

I mean, a lot of people ITT kept trying to talk about Dark Souls too, so is it really that much of a surprise?
It's just a result of From being type-cast into their specific game; and it doesn't help with gaming becoming mainstream and so the smaller, older, or niche stuff is overshadowed, and eventually compared to what the dev is known for. Even in sperg communities like the farms, it's gonna come up, mainly because that's what the normie conversation is going to be; even though From made over 10 or so AC games before Demon's Souls was even out in Japan. Only spergs are gonna remember them... until AC6 comes out and all the From trenders and sped-runners are gonna invade and lie about everything.

If I can't contain my autism, I might start watching Twitch and see if there's an increase in AC activity on the lead up to the release of AC6. Because that's one of the popular things to do, to generate hype and get day 1 views.

I am new to armored core which entry should i try first
Depends on what you can get and how willing you are to put up with the growing pains the series has since it started on the original Playstation. You don't have to worry about any story connecting them, as they're all pretty self-contained; so it's not like jumping from one to another is gonna have you miss out or spoil something.

That being said; I found the PS2 games to be the best, especially the original AC2; but any of them would be a good place to start. AC2, Last Raven, and Nine Breaker are like my top 3, and all PS2. The 360/PS3 games (AC4, Silent Line For Answer, AC5, and Verdict Day) may be easier to find; but they have things I'm not too happy with. Especially ACV, as that game got gimped hard (like 40%+ of content is gone) when the online servers were turned off. So, unless you're willing to understand you're playing an incomplete product, skip ACV completely. I'd be lying if I said I didn't like the ideas implemented in AC5; but its reliance of other humans, online play, and time/day sensitive things really hampered enjoyment of it. Then when the servers got turned off, it took about half the entire fucking game with it.

One last thing; I'm not too keen on emulation so not sure if it works the same there. But about half the games function like an expansion of the previous one. So if you have save data from the previous entry, you can import your data and start with most (if not all) of the stuff you had.
