The same thing happened earlier with "politically correct". Originally it was used ironically by activists themselves to describe a overly-doctrinaire, self-appointed language-/thought-cop. Of course, as with SJWs, once people like that gained ascendancy, it became an insult by opponents that accurately described the mentality of far too many left-liberals.
I agree wholeheartedly, save for one simple point:
Don't mistake SJWs for Liberals. That is exactly what these assholes
want you to do.
The SJW belief structure, accurately dubbed "Neoprogressivism," is
fundamentally incompatible with the tenets of Liberalism, in much the same way that someone cannot be both a Communist and Fascist (though that pairing
is fun to joke about). SJWs despise due process, individual liberty, and measured response. The only reason any of them adopt the label is so they can claim to be something they aren't.
They're Authoritarians, plain and simple.
Many of them claimed to be right before they claimed to be left (
Brianna Wu worked for segregationist Senator Trent Lott; Jonathan McIntosh was an InfoWars-frequenting right-winger). They'll pay lip-service to whatever overarching political structure is most convenient for them
at the moment. Expect them to abandon it when it's no longer needed.
There's a reason that so many people on the left hate these assholes just as much, if not more, than those on the right or in the middle. They are a cancer for any political stripe they try to parasitize, and after they've destroyed it or cannot milk it further, they will move onto the next, and then the next.
