I legit went to a guest speaker at my university and heard a talk like this. The speaker was trans and orthodox jewish. They talked about the creation story in Genesis and the creation of sex versus the creation of gender.

Honestly it wasn't half bad. They knew their stuff.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, a lot of it was a stretch, but it was interesting and well thought out at least. Unlike most of the nonsense you see about this stuff.

This kind of stuff is fascinating when the persons that argue this kind of stuff actually know their shit.

Of course, what we get more often than not are insane Tumblerinas:

I remember it being used even earlier, in 2011. The term kind of picked up steam on Tumblr around the time Occupy Wall Street happened, and it was considered an insult. People weren't trying to "reclaim" it; if you got called an SJW, that meant you were fucking nuts and to be avoided.

Now you got people who will lob the SJW label at just about anybody left of center because whatever.

Because every debate on social issues is like arguing whether or not it's a good idea to kill and eat babies. Opposition to what I think must be so absurd that the only rational response is to imply your opponent is making fart noises out of their mouth.
That's about when I first heard about it, but it wasn't the religious right 2.0 that it is today, but mostly teenage tumblr drama queens with things like otherkin, multiple systems, specialgenders/pronouns often mixed in with some radical feminism. The authoritarians borrowed a lot of that shit, but they're in a different category from the originals. I had the feeling that the original tumblrs actually either believed their own shit or used the special snowflake shit to feed their own narcissistic fantasies, without really much ill intent beyond that. The newer group is just exploiting the parts that are useful to manipulate well-meaning people and don't actually believe any of it.

He's been a veritable salt mine lately regarding that. Mostly because the nanosecond that they allowed both conferences back in, the always-critical narrative (that it was too dangerous because Gamerdegrab means it is in UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION) was endangered, and it's rapidly looking like the Antis are going to do exactly what they fucking did at the SPJ and cancelling en masse rather than go (since Harper lost whatever leverage she had over the conference).

There's still a few of them trying to do damage control, including Wu and Chu, and the prospect of those two trying to do the SJW equivalent of crossing a picket line is going to be fucking amazing if they're the only ones that are down for it.

Geth just called Arthur Chu's motives for exactly what they are:

Arthur Chu complaining about doxxing? Especially when it isn't actual doxxing?

Hasn't he actually doxxed people before himself? Or am I just imagining that due to the fact that it's almost impossible for my opinion of him to sink any lower?

Chu's also a regular on Thought Catalogue, but for a couple months he hadn't posted anything new.

All that has recently changed. We've now been blessed with three new Thought Catalogue articles in as many days from Mr. IT-ENDS-TONIGHT. In the first, he compares Internet trolling to gun violence as his central thesis. The second, his new friendship and upcoming project with Suey Park. But it's the third article which has the worthiest new quote for his ED page:

Arthur Chu said:
Protesters felt that journalists were intruding on a private celebration of a private victory, and made it clear they didn’t consider journalists welcome at that celebration, putting up signs and making announcements to that effect.

Was this a legally enforceable request? Of course not. But it was an explicit statement they did not give consent to be photographed, and an ethicaljournalist avoids violating people’s consent without good reason.
Arthur Chu is the gift that keeps on giving. Even Amanda Marcotte, Rob Bricken, Richard Eisenbeis, Patricia Hernandez, and those lefttards at Pajiba can't top him.

Arthur Chu doesn't even know the basics of journalism, let alone the ethics of it.
