Articles & Happening Meta Discussion

Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

May I suggest a new rule?

You should need to cite the source of the article at the top, and the author, if named, to make it easier to tell what trash heap it came from.

I've seen too many Axios push polls, blatant RT propaganda posts and brainrotten screeds penned by David French where the OP hides the links at the bottom of 20k word post like a douche so you can't tell whose asshole the article was shat out of at a glance. This would make perusing this board much more convenient.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Is there an official rule on bumping old threads on KF? I often research topics I'm interested in first so I don't make a thread on something that's already been discussed. When I find an existing discussion, I'll prefer to bump it with relevant information or questions. I just had a post deleted due to "necroposting" a thread, though I question the utility in that rule unless there's no information added. My post had two reactions and both were "Informative" so I feel like the post wasn't valueless.

Not bitching or anything, just curious. The mods have been excellent with my few requests here so not complaining. On mobile so forgive me if I'm overlooking rules out in the open.

As long as you are adding new information to update a thread there should be no issue. If you feel a post was deleted in error you can start a thread in the Talk to Staff forum where the mods can address the issue and resolve any problems.

It already is an actual rule. Problem is that the only mod who was passionate about enforcing it was @Absolutego (I think). Generally, my view is that if the article is not pointless slop and follows mainline rules, such minor adjustments are not especially necessary, in particular where almost all of newly made posts would run afoul of this adjustment and would either need constant manual surveillance to detect and fix or enough interest by A&N folks to report all instances.

I see. The rules you enforce are, of course, at your collective discretion.

I wish that when Null posted in USPG2 that people would just treat him like a normal poster in their interactions and not generate several pages of meta-commentary about how crazy it is that he is deigning to post on the forum that he owns.

Null renamed it after getting mad about Trump’s recent love for Indians. It should be reverted back by tomorrow
I renamed it as a joke. I planned to do it when Trump initially announced his "every hb1 visa holder gets a citizenship" plan, but held off on it because I wasn't sure whether it would be funny enough to warrant dealing with the tardstorm, but when I heard Null rant about the very same thing on MATI, I decided to bite the bullet.

I'll rename it back at some point before the next week

Can we have more country flag flairs? I hate having to use emoji in titles because Windows doesn't display flag emoji.

At least Canada and Japan.

I think Chicago news needs a megathread with all the insane shit that comes out of the city and the Chicagoland area. Every time a murder or crime happens or a politician goes to jail a new thread is created and the discussion doesn't last. I think one big beautiful thread would be a better solution.

Just make sure the title uses "Chicongo" (as white people call it) not "Chiraq" (like niggers do).

@Useful_Mistake I need a ruling. I saw a highly amusing Grady Judd presentation and I would like to post the video, and just the video. Not any of the ai slop articles online rags made about it. Is this permissible?
