PlayStation maker Sony doesn't have enough original franchises which it has "fostered from the beginning".
That's according to Sony chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki, who in the same week PlayStation announced it was pulling Concord from sale told the Financial Times: "We're lacking the early phase (of IP) and that's an issue for us."

Concord unceremoniously goes offline with an anticlimactic "error" message

"One thing that you need is IP, that is step one," Jefferies analyst Atul Goyal added in the same article. "And if you don't start creating or buying in those that do, then the risk is someone else will do it. So the risk is not doing anything."
Totoki was referring to Sony generally, with films and anime also a consideration along with the company's gaming sector. The exec went on to say Sony is typically better at finding an audience for content that's already become popular in its home market.
However, his words do draw attention to that aforementioned Concord shut down. The game was available for less than two weeks, before the company decided it needed to reevaluate its new franchise's place on the market.
In a post earlier this week, Sony and developer Firewalk said Concord would be taken offline indefinitely, so the team could "determine the best path ahead" and "explore options, including those that will better reach our players".
At the same time, PlayStation is about to release one of its most anticipated games of the year: Astro Bot.
This game itself is an homage to the company's franchise history, and laced with nostalgia. Bots from Sony's games such as The Last of Us' Ellie and Joel, Uncharted's Nathan Drake, Horizon's Aloy, and Crash Bandicoot are all confirmed to be included in the forthcoming platformer.

Hey analysts analyzing, how about instead of looking at spreadsheets of data you just talk to some fucking dudes at Gamestop in person, then follow up with some college guys? You're making it way too fucking hard on yourselves.
One of the problem companies and a lot of business minded people have is they try to mirror each other; there is very little actual thought or analysis, and find it easier to say "X is doing it, we should too." Remember, no one thought $5,000,000 in sales was normal until Call of Duty started doing it with Modern Warfare; then suddenly those numbers become some sort of standard, nevermind it was never that before. Dead Space and Dead Space 2 were fine, even with the online mode nobody asked for; but because online was seen as a requirement at the time, Dead Space 3 had a pointless co-op mode, but even with that, and despite actually making money, the series got canned because it didn't make enough money. Dev studios were told that if their games don't meet a certain standard on meta-critic, they won't get bonuses (sales numbers be damned); meanwhile instead of trying to make something good, they chase trends, that were set by someone doing something once, it being good enough, and then everyone else trying to copy it.

Analysts are fucking retarded and use bad information to make worse fucking decisions. You want to know why Concord was made and why it flopped, because "analysts" believed that retarded, gay, diverse, sexual degenerates actually play videogames and not just ruin online discussions. Because whatever retarded fucking numbers they decided to look at said they'd be there; those numbers not being people in stores or on the Steam pages or where you may actually find people who actually enjoy playing videogames.

You want to help clean up videogames; fire anyone and everyone with a business degree.

Hiroki, you faggot.

Warhawk, Twisted Metal, Syphon Filter, SOCOM could be a direct COD competitor if you weren't fucking retarded. Even without Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, you still have fucking Sly Cooper (which you haven't done anything since PS3).

What the fuck do you mean you don't have any original IPs left? You have several that you haven't done anything with in two decades, you absolute brainlet.

Gravity Rush, Legend of Dragoon, and I'll even say inFamous. Make a LoD prequel, set in the Dragon Campaign, with the OG Dragoons. It's that easy.

Sure we know how it ends, but that didn't stop Crisis Core from being good for what it was. Give us the OG Dragoons, from the start of Wingly terror to Rose being the sole survivor.
You just reminded me that the next Yakuza game is a shitty mobile one....

It's nice to see the other three fans for Days Gone is in this thread.

Also: Sly Cooper is almost the perfect mascot game for Sony to get too heights like Mario or Sonic.

I will say Astrobot looks great.

Oh for fucks sake, just kill off the clown looking niggers and mudshit hambeasts and replace them with heterosexual, WHITE europeans. People are DESPERATE for something that isn't woke, if you don't wanna smell like shit simply don't touch it

Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, Crash Bandicoot, and Jak & Daxter should be PlayStation's go to E for Everyone family friendly, easily streamed billion dollar bench mark franchises, and yet...
You’d think they’d at least consider it. The last Ratchet and Clank was actually really good.

Sly Cooper: 3D Platforming Collectathon with stealth game play.

Ratchet & Clank: 3D Open World Collectathon with third person shooting.

Jak & Daxter: 3D Story Driven Collectathon Beat 'em Up.

Crash Bandicoot: 3D Platforming Collectathon with a Funny Story.

Spyro the Dragon: 3D Open World Collectathon with Flight.

I've distilled these products down to there barest. You can totally turn any one of them into the family friendly prints money on demand IP, but Sony is, ironically, Risk Adverse.

I'm not asking for Days Gone 2 (well, I am, but!), but these E for Everyone titles should be evergreen for the PlayStation.

Concord didn't flop just because of all the gay stuff - it was also a patently mediocre game that no one wanted. The game (even if you remade every single character) was dogshit. Trannies (aka sexual degenerates) absolutely play video games (see Speedrunning, any MMO, most Fighting Games, etc) - even they didn't want to play this garbage.

Another "analyst" issue is that a game company (and the industry) never knows when to fucking stop. Any concept that gets a foothold (Music Games, MOBAs, Hero Shooters) and finds a decent size audience gets absolutely flooded until the audience just dies from oversaturation. A major thing that kills hype for most "popular" video games in the current year is how many frequently they are released and updated. Assassin's Creed was fine when they released a game every couple of years (and even some side stuff for AC2) but instantly went to shit when they tried pushing out one every single year - most people don't want that much Assassin's Creed and that's fine.

Sony in reality doesn't have much IP - not because they actually don't - but because they've run so much of it into the ground.

It continually amazes me that, in not only gaming or politics but in everyday life, people would rather stay insulated in their corners and pray to God that what they're doing will make gangbusters rather than just.....asking people what they want.

BG3 went through three years of feedback in early access before releasing and becoming a major hit.

Make that four other Days Gone fans.

Absolutely should. God, that was such a cliffhanger at the end of the first.
