It's a bit overkill but to be honest as long as Chris dies too I'll be satisfied.

on a srs note, ya I don't get why this is in the news. People have been talking about this since I was a little kid. There have been so many doomsday predictions that I've gotten surprised when we go for 6 months without getting a new one.

Probably not in our lifetimes. Eventually one will hit (or be bound to hit) the Earth, but the odds of it happening in any of our lifetimes is exceedingly rare.

When you think about it for a minute, the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs hit us was 60 million years ago, and before that, we had a good 4 billion years without life ending asteroids (to my knowledge atleast)

That is atleast my reasoning for why we won't have these kinds of asteroids in our lifetime.

The 1908 Tunguska impact was an object only 10 meters in size, but had the power of hundreds of Hiroshimas.
If this rock had hit a major populated area, the carnage would have unprecedented in human history.

In the mid 1990s a far bigger chunk narrowly missed us, and NASA only spotted it after it passed...
Doesn't make me confident.

Well more like 3.8 billion. There was a period of heavy bombardment around that time.
