Millions of people have watched Zootopia, but they aren't furries. Billions have seen artwork with anthro animals in it, but they are not furries.

On the other hand some people who objectivly are furries like @mister meaner claim not to be.

So what exact makes a furry? What line does one have to cross to be considered one?

This is actually a good question.

I love cartoons, wanted to be an animator when I was a kid and crushed on certain cartoon character’s I won’t discuss here.
I still collect serigraphs and animation cels that i genuinely enjoy seeing, although I feel shame for having.

I’ve never been to a convention, but I’ve known of furries since I was in my early teens, after seeing them on TV, many years ago.
I also like their fursuit’s quite a bit, but I can’t lower myself to that level of cringe and sadness.

I, personally don’t consider myself a furry, just furry adjacent, but others opinions may be different.

What makes one a furry? I think accepting that you are a furry makes you a furry.
Embracing it, incorporating it into your daily life, admitting to it and eventually not feeling the one thing you should feel, shame.
That’s the tipping point, acceptance.

>Love for animation and cartoon crush at an early age.
I have seen this tale a lot on the internet. My bet is that It was a Sonic the Hedgehog character since that tends to be correct most of the time.

You’re a furry if you have sexual attraction to, jerk off to, or, and dear lord I hope this isn’t the case, fuck animals. Catgirls are not an exception.

Hard agree.

I also don't embrace it. I don't interact with the community. I just don't suppress it like I used to. Turns out, it's not good for your mental health.

I may or may not have a fursona that I use as a gamertag that may or may not respond to "OwO" in game chat.

That distinct furry look is disgusting, creepy, and mildly disturbing.

A furry is someone who finds animal characteristics attractive, so if you find cat ears a turn on, then you are a furfag and need the rope
Girls get a pass on wearing cat ears, but that's it. As soon as you add anything else (like a tail or paws) it's over.
Playboy bunnies have set the standard; ears and tail are fine, playful and cute. Anything much beyond what's established there is weird.
