apparently the system's already been shipped to backers like this one:

i just made this thread because ive not seen any thread discussing this here so far

Yeah, speaking as a classic Atari fanboy myself, my reaction is, 'Um... but why?'.

Do they plan to release new games, or just the ancient stuff that dates back to the early 80's? Or revivified versions of the latter?

who wanted this in the first place anyone who wants to play atari games already has the consoles or uses emulators
Emulators are a foreign concept to normies because they don't have two braincells to rub together, especially to set it up.

Judging by the video in OP, the main menu looks exactly like every other fucking app related main menu, so there's that familiarity normies will look for.

That video... wow.

Let me give a quick rundown.

T+2:00: System does not have individual Atari gamer profiles, but currently requires your google account, which will expose all your other google shit to the console.

T+2:45: Button inputs change based on whether the controller is being used via bluetooth or USB.:story: In case you didn't know, 99% of Atari 2600 games only had ONE button input. How do you fuck up ONE input so badly?

T+6:35: Gets charged TWICE for a game collection that is not available on the store.

T+9:10: Was it worth what I paid for? No.

Holy fuck this is bad. I feel sorry for that guy.

I thought this was gonna be a thread about the original 2600 lol.
What's the point of this fucking thing if it's just another shitty gaming pc with a controller (That could be said for most modern consoles actually)
At least the chameleon pretended it was gonna have retro specs. (A vision now fufilled by the Uzebox, Spectrum Next and MEGA65)

Novelty. Look at how fucking well the mini-NES/SNES/Genesis/PS1 sold, and trying to convince anyone to NOT buy those things is like pulling teeth. Telling them about emulation just makes them give you that look like you're speaking a different language. Telling them about retro game stores gives them a confused look as if such a thing could ever exist. Telling them to not support companies selling old-ass roms after the mass takedowns on rom sites and C&Ds to rom hacking sites makes them give you a look like you're fucking crazy.

The hardware is surprisingly not terrible. It's weaker versions of what is in current gen consoles. If it had more storage, and they somehow managed to get the price below that of a X Box Series S, and got support from the big software publishers, then this could have become a legitimate member of the 9th generation.
Sadly, they did not do any of this and the whole thing is just a waste of money that will be forgotten about in a few weeks.

The VCS is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing retro-styled emulation console yet. It's just a shame that there are far more competent options for much less money, such as the MiSTer and the Uzebox.

Heck, if all you want is a convenient way to play retro stuff, the Raspberry Pi 400 is cheap and effective.

I actually intend to switch to a 400 for my main computer, to get away from Windows, it looks like a proper retro computer fitted for the modern age anyways.

But wait, THERE'S MORE!

He made a 2nd review video, and despite only having the console for one week he already felt the need to upgrade the RAM because the menus were too slow, and his receipts keep showing N/A for his billing address.

I found this in the recommended videos to the right of this one. It looks like all the indiegogo backers are getting taken for a ride to fund Atari's money laundering scheme crypto-casino.:stress:
