I’ve been intrigued by this ongoing debate on YouTube between theists and atheists. From what I’ve seen, both can be very smug. Girls Defined is a popular Christian YouTube channel and has caused massive debates between Christians and atheists alike. Personally, the amount of attention that atheist channels are giving to Girls Defined is only making them more relevant. I don’t like the way Girls Defined approaches topics, but I can see where they are coming from and agree with some things they say here and there.

On the other hand, you have atheist channels that make their money off of criticizing channels like Girls Defined. Overall, atheist channels have this “I have superior logic and reason than all other theists” attitude, which doesn’t really help in attracting those that would want an honest debate. The fan bases of these channels, ironically, treat these atheist YouTubers like TellTale, Mr. Atheist, AiU, etc. like deities/prophets.

What do you think of these channels? Are they effective? Why is there a lack of criticism in Eastern philosophies from atheists? How do you feel about religious based channels?

YouTube Atheists ignore eastern theology because 90% of them are neck-beard re-tards who never left their "FUCK YOU, DAD!" phase, and are still pissed their parents made them go to church. They also likely don't know enough in regards to eastern theology to string two sentences together.

I'm not religious, I adhere myself to no theology but from what I've seen of atheism, at least YouTube atheists, it makes me want to convert. As for religious based channels, I've never come across one. I can't really offer an opinion. As long as they're not really over the top preachy I don't really care.
:neckbeard:

I don't really turn to YouTube for religious content; it's not something I just dip my toes into and then walk away from so it's got to be something meatier. Sometimes I'll watch a sermon or whatever but other than watching Jesse Lee Peterson make people sputter with rage that's about it for entertainment from religion.

Atheist YouTubers are hilariously smug for people who know almost nothing about the concepts they claim to be tackling. Poiseon's right that they're mainly just mindlessly rebelling against something without really being able to explain why. I used to enjoy that stuff back when I was an atheist, but I tried not to be that obnoxious because it's just gay.

Edit: grammar. shameful.

Eh. Not a huge fan of most of them on either side. The atheists are too edgy and misinformed, and the religious ones tend to lack real substance. Unbelievable is decent though. The moderator generally does his job and some of the guests are quite good. But the guests are usually full time thinkers rather than full time Youtubers.

Usually I'll just watch archives of debates and lectures from professional historians and theologians. NT Wright, Bart Ehrman, whatever.

Same as most discussions about it. It's a fundamentally flawed discussion and rarely productive. In my experience, it's the atheists that are the pushy ones, but it may be different in the states.

I think what bothers me most about atheists is that they do not seem to see any difference between faiths, though they would almost certainly prefer to live in countries that are majority christian rather than majority muslim for most of the cases (to give one comparison). What bothers me most about christians is that it just isn't that common to have an insightful outlook on spirituality/religion.

I think the short story of two men in a bar is the best to conceptualise the unbridgeable divide. Here it goes. An atheist and a christian sit in a bar trading stories. The atheist says: "Well, then I was lost in the woods, and had no hope at all of ever managing to come back to civilized society. I don't know what came over me, but I prayed to god if he would please help me survive." The christian looked shocked. "But he saved you! You're here right now!" "Ah", says the atheist, "...but I just came across some tribesmen and they guided me back."

Atheist youtubers are stupid 8chan posters that are doing it to be edgy and they don't have a wide knowledge of religion overall.

Religious youtubers (the ones that focus mainly on trying to "debunk" atheism) are smug motherfuckers that push their morality down your throat, but the atheists outnumber the religious ones...so Youtube atheism is way worse and at the very least Christian YouTubers for the most part, aren't really lolcows, that I know of.

ALL Atheist youtubers are lolcows because they are self-deluded in their thinking and can't even fathom why people are Christians in the first place without shitting on them for not being logical enough to not believe. I think one of the peak Autistic videos I've seen from the Atheism community was this:

Why make a whole entire video sperging out about one lackluster definition? Is that going to earn you "muh atheism" oppression points or something?

Our church's resident autist is still into the whole YT atheist/theist debate scene. Makes videos and stuff, too. He used to be a flat-earther and latches onto anything that lets him lord his 'hidden knowledge' over anyone else online, it's transparent as fuck. As a theist, I'm almost certain a lot of theistic 'debate youtubers' only profess faith because that means they don't have to prove anything because 'hehe you just aren't enlightened by God'.

You're better of reading philosophers throughout the ages and why they do or don't believe in God or gods. At least it'll have more reasoning than the prattling bullshit on Youtube. Youtube videos can be informative and entertaining (like a 1 hour review of a game your never going to play or a series of 30 minute to 1 hour videos on the creation of a compiler for a B-like language using parser, lexer and analyzer tools ), but a philisophical or theological debate can't be accurately summarized in the time it takes to make your average Youtube video. It actually involves critical thinking instead of "LOL [Other group] BTFO'd" type bullshit, which is what most of these speds resort to. You are better off unironically following the shitshow that is IBS because at least that is entertaining when those retards do it to each other.

What was the video you posted? Link died, I've had a renewed interest in this topic mainly because one of my friends showed me the "genetically modified faggot" and I find him insufferable. The problem with gaytheist youtubers is none of them can figure out where their objective morality comes from. Usually just a vague "It's bad if it hurts people" kind of thing. They hate the reality that they borrow much of their morality from Christian religion.
