I don't know as much about nannies, but since someone mentioned daycare I can tell you those are terrible. A friend of mine worked at one and witnessed some emotional abuse of toddlers going on. She reported it, and I think she got fired for something unrelated or quit when management started bullying her or something. I don't remember because it's been a while.
There are some kids that just cry the whole time or are constantly whimpering and tired, and don't seem to ever feel safe enough to sleep well. Some kids get attached to one care taker, and then the care taker has a mental breakdown and quits working at the daycare without putting in their two weeks notice, and the kid is back to square one and crying again. Even in the "better" daycare, turnover was massive and workers lost their minds and quit suddenly. Most of the stable employees were in it because their children were in daycare.
I know at one daycare, it was a standard but secret policy that you don't tell the parents about their 1 year old's first steps. Just let the parent come back and
let them assume that they witnessed their child's first steps and smile and nod your head while they tell you about it. Otherwise they get all existential and upset and shit right in front of you.
For some reason the parents always assume they are witnessing their child's firsts after they come home from work, and that these things never occurred in the 8hrs they were at daycare. The world is magic that way.
I think my friend broke that rule a few times because she was worried the mentally checked out parents wouldn't realize their child can walk otherwise.
Almost all the daycare workers daydreamed about being a private nanny instead of working for a daycare.
The only one I know who succeeded at this was a friend of a friend, and I was shocked she passed a background check. I was even more shocked she had no criminal record. Apparently she looked "dependable" which is odd for someone who quits most jobs after two weeks because "wasn't feelin the vibe man dude weed lmao" and lives in avoidable squalor, but ok whatever.
Everything I know about paid childcare is bad.
A lot of people, especially in single mom culture, want childcare to be state funded as part of their socialist ideals.
Imagine how much worse it could be if it was a part of welfare
I wish someone would have told me something wholesome about daycare for once, but I never heard one other than "kids are cute". I just heard something worse every time

This will turn into the "What's wrong with Gen Z" or whatever thread though if I don't slow down.
