Got it, had time to fuck around in it for a couple of hours last night. These are some notes I took last night; bear in mind I make no claim that these are true as the game progresses, it is merely what I observed in my early hours. The game has six/seven (I can't remember exactly) difficulty levels, with the default one being the second-to-highest, so it's certainly prepped for games journalists. There's also a custom difficulty level, much like Sniper Elite has, where you can adjust things to your heart's content.
- You wake up without memory, no idea who you are, that trope. The skill selection screen shows a character wearing a vest that says "security" and a gasmask, so it's possible you acted as protection for the scientists in the area.
- The maps are Fallout-esque in the sense that you have a hub area to explore, which are inhabited by the various factions, which are dotted with smaller locations like caves, bunkers, sewers, etc that you can enter and explore.
- Enemies will only engage you if you engage them/get too close. If they spot you, they'll ask you to kindly fuck off. Even if they engage, you can just turn and run and they'll lose interest relatively quickly.
- Leveling up, or rather, skilling up, seems to come only from finding "Training stimulants", which are prevalent in bunkers. Doing quests and murderhoboing around doesn't seem to reward you with much in the way of levels/skills.
- In the early game, stealthily skulking around snapping necks doesn't seem too worthwhile - usually their mates will notice, even if their backs are turned. You can learn skills to offset this though, generating less noise with a takedown, but you not only have to find/buy the skillbook to unlock that ability, but also find the points to level up.
- Only engaged in one big firefight thus far, didn't feel super rewarding - very little loot for lots of precious bullets. (It might become more worthwhile later on when I know more recipes and the loot can be used to craft stuff.) Headshotted a woman bandit, and her buddy right next to her casually went "Crikey" like I'd just dropped a bag of potatoes.
- Exploring is fun, especially the bunkers. Melee combat against ferals is really fucking dangerous.
- The whole spiel about "no quests" is kinda bullshit - you get a lead, but oftentimes you'll also get the location (either directly marked out on your map or the exact coordinates, which are also visible on the map) of where you need to go to explore. Generally, you'll be going there to find some items or another lead.
- Inventory space is very limited, and there's no currency used, only bartering. This means you can't stick to an area, loot every last corkscrew and sell it to the trader for cash as you'll need to trade your items in for other items. Bunkers all seem to have a world-connected pneumatic tube system which can be used to store loot, but I didn't find one like it in town (yet) where it'd probably be most useful.
- There are niggers - though only seen two thus far, neither of whom said anything to me. Also no girlbosses yet, only met an herbalist lady who treated me as you'd expect a human being to.
- The maps aren't crazy huge, but they're pretty stuffed with things to see, loot, and/or murder, the latter being primarily of the human variety. I've been to four areas thus far, briefly stepping foot in a fifth.
- Haven't had any crashes or severe bugs yet, although a trader I ran into in the woods suddenly turned hostile the second time I went to buy from him. Could be because he doesn't like me killing the nearby (hostile) druids, I guess.
