Man I am going to miss this series once it ends, I wonder how much the ending will "hurt".
I mean, even good endings can hurt. I cried like a little bitch at the end of Violet Evergarden. But Isayama doesn't really have that ability to hit you right in the feels. I mean you can make a great ending like that, and it still hurts and makes you sad and touches you, but this is more the malicious sort of hurt I feel like.

But I don't know. Nearly everyone is dead, Mikasa is insane and God seems pleased at this outcome. So uh, I mean I guess he could show how it could have ended happily but the real ending is everyone dying violently and painfully. So um, don't know? I have no idea where you go from, "I'm making out with the severed head of my dead brother while God masturbates in the corner." A lot of people are predicting a literal Deus Ex Machina, because if it ends here, the world is completely fucked, no one is going to care that Paradis killed the founder, billions/millions are dead, there's like a handful of people from the main cast alive. Or maybe he does that thing where all the characters reincarnate in the future and get what they want and shit like that so its 'bittersweet', IE: Mikasa and Eren are lovers in another life.

I don't know. Maybe he just takes it and goes from there. Or maybe he retcons the entire series ala Stone Ocean (technically Stone Ocean didn't retcon all of Jojo, just the parts with Jotaro between 5 and 6). I mean, Stone Ocean JUST got announced, so maybe its a sign? Who knows.

I honestly predict he is going for a literal deus ex machina with Ymir saving everyone, pull a Stone Ocean by changing the timeline where there are no titans and the world is at peace, do something edgy with few survivors, or go complete edgelord.

It's not going to hurt. This guy has been saying he wants to hurt his readers for the longest time, and he's pussed out again, and again. Now he's on the last chapter, and the one thing he could possibly do to hurt his readers won't even matter because the story's over, and any lasting pain is gone because there's nothing left to read. No one cares anymore. He wasted his chance to hurt anyone because it's too late now, and he didn't have the balls to do it beforehand.

It's an empty threat at this point. The ending is going to be a boring cop-out no matter what because that's what Isayama wrote himself into.

Yeah once he included a vision of the high school AU in one of those memory fragment collages I started to suspect that might happen. The Evangelion manga kinda does that too.

I'm not sure if he has it in him to go full edgelord. I mean, he kinda did that last chapter, so I don't think he'll pull the double edgelord. I could be wrong.

But yeah, my bet is on "Deus Ex Machina."

That'd frankly be amazing. They all die and are reincarnated/isekai'd into a high school comedy manga. And that is the canonical ending and sequel lol. Imagine explaining that to someone.

"Yeah, this manga starts out with huge titans eating people, cool!"

"Well, how does it end?"

"The main character decides to comitt genocide, God watches a girl be a necrophiliac and at the end everyone dies and then goes to High School in Japan having wacky hijincks."

I don't think its going to hurt unless he's so massively retarded he pisses everyone off.

If the isekai high school ending happens, that would be hilarious since it is also similar to Stone Ocean, Kill la Kill's and the Eva Manga's endings where the end is that the weird shit is no more and everyone lives a modern normal life.

I don’t think Kill la Kill can be lumped in with Stone Ocean and the Eva manga, where it’s pretty explicitly a supernatural “reset” that allows the “normal” ending to exist. Kill la Kill is more like FMA or Parasyte where the main threat gets defeated, the MC gets de-powered, and everyone goes on to living a normal life because they’ve already achieved their goal and there’s no reason or means for them to keep on fighting.

That's true, I just thought Kill la Kill fit and I like putting things in groups of three sometimes, but yeah I think the supernatural "reset" could potentially happen for AOT if that top left panel is reliable and shows the highschool AU.

Allegedly, he plans to retire from manga and open a spa. Because autism.
Yup, pretty much.
let’s be real - it doesn’t matter what the ending is because you guys will hate 139 no matter what isayama does
lol, the last chapter was amazing in how trash it was. I did enjoy it a lot from laughing. The story's been unsalvageable for ages and has accelerated in that direction. Its like watching a patient die from terminal retardation. There's no cure at this point. If you don't think I've been enjoying this, you're out of your mind. Isayama conjures a unique brand of awful, which is hysterical. He's like a terrible Kojima along with if Kojima had severe autism and didn't know how to interact with people.

Really, most people are wondering will it die with dignity or will it die shitting and drooling all over itself. I mean if he retconed the entire manga and Isekai's everyone to another world, AoT is 10/10. If he undoes EVERYTHING and its Deus Ex Machina, more like 6 out of 10. If he goes 'full Anno' pulling out some nonsensical, abstract bullshit, 10 out of Congratulations. If he goes full edgelord, 10/10, where Misaka is a delusional woman holding Eren's mummified corpse as everyone gets slaughtered and Paradis and Marely are fully at war. If he pussies out and goes half edgelord deciding to keep the results with Eren going 'Just as planned Le Louche' and have 139 being an epilogue its like a 3-4/10 boring. Timeloop "The man in black fled across the desert, the gunslinger Eren followed", maybe 7/10 because I like timeloop stuff.

The only way he could fail if he pulls a half-measure, not a full measure. Whatever he decides, he needs to go full in. If its a half measure, it fails. I mean, its really hard to top incestous necrophilia, so him going full edgelord is going to be hard to top. Make Eren go full TETSUO. Have Ymir Rewind time, Make Mikasa and Armin fight God who is the Devil. Don't just go "And then Eren died, a fragile peace swept the land, wondering if it was going to last" *cue surviving cast looking off pensive in the distance at Eren's grave, but Historia holding a child whose father we never find out, saying "You are Free" and the manga ends because hope or something* If it ends that way, 2/10. Fucking weak.

I'm interested on seeing how it will end.

I treat AOT just like i treat jojo, aka retarded but fun jouney due to the author changing his mind every singoe week
Honestly i cant wait for the end of this trainwreck and the reaction, just like with evafags
I look forward to the Erenfags' reaction the most since there are still many who act like Eren has some secret plan to win and are still hoping for the "EREN IS ACTUALLY ON THE ISLAND" theory so watching them being BTFO would be the most hilarious shit ever.

You know what? I hope the last chapter never comes, and Isayama just decides to leave this thing unfinished.

He just decides to fuck off, and never finish his manga. He takes the money, and runs. There is no ending. There is no closure. This entire thing was a pointless scam, and we fell for it.

That would be the only interesting way this shitshow ends for me now.

For there to be no actual fucking ending.

Either way, it will feel bittersweet for myself. Every month for the last decade a chapter release was one of the few things to look forward to in period where not too many good things happen.

The story certainly derailed hard but it'll still be sad to see it go. I just hope he can pull off some kind of legible ending that won't shit it all up.
I haven't followed Attack on Titan but I know the feeling you're describing all too well, this last decade has been fucking rough with few highlights.

For me one of the biggest highlights has been Red Letter Media.

But anyway, I meant to get into this series years ago but never did and I'm not sure whether I made the right call or not, it's of course turned into a clusterfuck but it sounds like maybe it's an interesting clusterfuck at least?

I do know if one thing can be said about Japanese storytellers it's that they struggle with endings, I remember how fucking hyped the Hellsing manga made me but the ending basically peters out instead of offering a real satisfying conclusion even though all the pieces were there for an epic showdown, but you could tell at some point Kohta Hirano was just sick of it and rushed the ending.

And more often than not that's how it goes for anime and manga, it's definitely about the journey and not the destination.

I mean hell, this doesn't just apply to anime/manga but video game series as well, Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill have after all is said and done just left us wanting more.

Not sure why this seems to be such a problem for Japanese culture.

Only thing I disagree with is Metal Gear Solid not having a proper ending.

MGS 4 was the ending of the series and it was a proper one. At least for me.

SOP is brought down by Ocelot (Son of the Boss) and Solid Snake (clone of Big Boss). The two have one last fight. Ocelot dies. World is free from the system.

Big Boss kills Zero, reconciles with Solid Snake and finally understands the Bosses will. Then passes away at peace.

Raiden is back with is family

Solid Snake is at peace with his impending death and lives his last year at peace with Otacon and Sunny. Who are a family now.

I got everything I wanted for an ending to the MGS series.

Us AOT fans could of only prayed we got an ending like that.

I'm pretty sure most users already lost hope that this disaster will fix itself, the last few volumes are so terrible not even normalfags care anymore, just read Land of the Lustrous if you want a manga about someone rebelling and commiting genocide
