I didn't think much about the Annie thing either until now, and you've explained it pretty well. But what makes it even worse for me is that the convoluted plan somehow worked, and they had actually captured her, and then Levi had to fuck it up. He had to do what he'll come to always do in these situations, and threaten to torture the captive, which then scares them enough to escaping. Annie then runs off, kills Levi's squad, almost captures Eren, Levi breaks his ankle to stop her, and that in itself sets off another trainwreck of events down the line.

They had fucking won, and yet Levi had to ruin it. Something that he always does. The same thing happens with Zeke. Twice.

Moving on to the topic of Annie, I actually like her. She's an interesting character, and made for a really cool first villain. She should've also died already, or at least have done something besides being stuck as a human disco ball, and being Armin's personal spank material.

Seriously though, I honestly thought that Isayama forgot about her until recently. Wouldn't be surprised if he had, either.

People are only mad about Armin getting the serum because Erwin/Levi is one of the most popular ships in the series (right being Eren/Levi, if I'm not mistaken), and if Erwin dies, their ship dies.

That's it.

There was an editor in past who did help out a lot. He's the one you can thank for Sasha making it as far she did. Isayama wanted to kill way back right before the Krista is Royalty arc, but the editor apparently cried so much that Isayama didn't go through with it. I don't know where the guy is now, and it's definitely too late to fix anything at this point.

On a side note, it seems apparent that Isayama really hated Sasha, and I don't know why. He just seems to for no reason.

Well, the plan working is author fiat. It shouldn't have worked. A horse's max speed is 55 miles per hour and she was running at about 50. You have to wait until every single one of those things hits her perfectly or she gets out of it. Or worse, you slice each other up in the crossfire. It would never have worked. A strategist would have done what I said, engage in the forest, debilitate with close-range, low trajectory cannon balls with smokeless powder, and have the elites finish it. That's the infinitely better plan. Erwin's plan was fucking dumb and relied on chance. Like all his plans.

Levi does stupid shit until he doesn't. Again, author fiat. These aren't really characters. Not really. They're basically vehicles for a plot. They're not very consistent. There's a ton of plot armor, author fiat and shit like that.

Annie did make a good first villain. But she definitely should have died long before the basement. He didn't have an idea of what to do with her so he put her in the 'saved for later' box. He does this a ridiculous amount. He starts a plot thread, doesn't know where to go with it and just leaves it open ended while starting new ones. Annie is now basically now irrelevant to the plot because the anime and manga changed entirely. Isayma probably did, and then he made this shit plot with time travel and PATHS and now he needs her to get eaten. That's probably going to be her only purpose.

The fucking shipping is the only thing keeping this alive. I swear, 90% is shipping shit and 10% is plot. You'd think this manga has romance in it. It couldn't be anymore loveless and barren. This is basically the only real 'normie' anime because of the zombies Titans. I wonder what's going to happen when it switches to the dumb shit in the basement.

Isayma doesn't seem to care much for comic relief. AoT is relatively joyless in that regard except for Sasha, which is why people liked her. Also killing the comic relief character is 'dark'. IE: Isayma is an edgy faggot. He felt that there hadn't been enough character death so he wanted to add one more that was 'shocking'. Yeah, no editor can fix this shit. Attack on Titan is like the J.J. Abrams of Anime, popcorn shit that some people think is deep, with many 'mystery boxes' that are going to be 1) Ignored 2) disappointing or 3) retard.ed

True. You know, the more the I reflect upon the actions of the Survey Corps, the more I understand why everyone in-series hates them.

You're absolutely right when it comes to Levi, but what makes me so mad about it is the sheer amount of times it happens, and the fact that's it always him. It makes it seem like Levi just doesn't learn from his mistakes. Which is bullshit, because Levi isn't stupid. He's proven to be very fucking intelligent on more than one occasion. Take the fight scene with Kenny for example. That stunt he pulled in the bar was fucking incredible. He's not an idiot, so when Isayama decides to just make him one it feels extremely forced, and out-of-character.

And to frank, if it wasn't the same shit every time (we captured the bad guy+Levi refuses to shut up about torturing the bad guy+bad guy doesn't want to get tortured and gets scared shitless =ZOMG TEH BAD GUY GETS AWAY AND KILLS MANY PEOPLE IN THE PROCESS) then I'd be less upset about it. But since Isayama never changes it up, it's just so incredibly frustrating.

Honestly, the perfect time to have Annie return was during the end of the Krista is Royalty arc when everyone was busy with the big Turkey Titan. She either could've fucked off to the KoM, or joined back up with Reiner and Bertholdt. But no, Isayama didn't do that because "reasons".

I swear to God, I have not seen shipping this bad in a "dark" series since Death Note. Honestly, if there isn't a huge backlash when the KoM drops, I think I'm going to lose it.

I don't think people appreciate how important comic relief characters are in series like this. You need to have someone in your story to lighten the mood. You can't just have people angsting all the time, and expect readers to stay around. Eventually, everyone's gonna drop your series because they don't want to read about a bunch of depressing, fatalistic, nihilistic assholes.

He didn't even have to kill Sasha. He just could've married her off to Connie, or Niccolo, or have her get pregnant, or something like that. There were tons of other ways of writing her out of the story. Killing her off, (especially in the very disrespectful way he did) just came off as incredibly dickish, and pointless.

And if Isayama wanted to have another comic relief that wasn't Sasha because she wasn't "edgy" enough, he fucking already had one: Kenny. He could've kept Kenny alive, and have him be the new comic relief. He's a serial killer, but at least he jokes around. He probably could've helped out a lot in-series, too.

If he really wanted more character death, maybe get rid of someone more pvital to the plot like either of the Ackermans? Sasha was really the only thing I liked about the series (aside from the visual spectacle the show would pull out during the fight scenes) once Season 1 ended.

Again, you'd think that, but Isayama's a shit writer. That said, there's no excuse for the anime to keep following down this same path unless it was forced upon the staff from the get-go. Once this basement stuff ends and Wit Studio drops out, who knows if anyone will even want them to continue since the ratings are declining, the story's only going to get more contrived and the visuals will likely take a turn for the worse if they bother to pull an OPM Season 2 and hire a lesser studio to continue.

Well, the survey corps act fucktarded. The smartest thing to do was to develop support weaponry using explosives that engage titans at distance, while you have your experts move in close to finish them. Better yet, develop incendiary stuff, which you basically could, keeping titans on fire, constantly regenerating. The problem with titans is their maneuverability. So you really only need to focus on the legs or even their center of mass. Once they're down you've got it. Abnormal would be a problem, but still. They just abandon gunpowder entirely until they miraculously invent Thunder Spears. If they had that tech, support teams could have been amazing.

Levi is only an idiot because Isayama makes him out to be one. Also, if the bad guy gets away when scared of being tortured, why couldn't he always get away? Like, its fucking stupid. Whenever he's backed into a corner, he does the same things. He forces characters to be stupid, nerfs them or just acts on author fiat.

She should have really returned then. But now, like I said, there's no fucking point.

Most of the shippers are manga readers, but I think its going to lose viewers. It really is inevitable. A lot of AoT content is carried on horror websites, so its going to be a lot harder to carry when it just turns into a bad knock-off of Game of Thrones with time loops.

Exactly. Isayama didn't like that and there's basically been nothing to lighten the mood at all. Its basically just 'lol, this is fucking stupid'. He didn't want to, because he wanted to kill her because he didn't like that the fans like her. And I don't think Isayama wants comic relief. He wants it to be super serial. He's just an edge boy faggot with no idea how to write.

If he really wanted more character death, maybe get rid of someone more pvital to the plot like either of the Ackermans? Sasha was really the only thing I liked about the series (aside from the visual spectacle the show would pull out during the fight scenes) once Season 1 ended.

No, he wanted to kill off Sasha. He already wanted it, he dislikes his fans and doesn't care. So that's why he did that.

There really isn't any reason. It'd be better to hire a decent writer and ignore the manga. The problem will definetly occur once the genre switch happens. Wit studio knows the score. The manga lost huge amounts of readers. There's a lot more popular anime than AoT right now. All that's left of AoT is the hardcore fans.

Oh god, if they pull a OPM for the next seasons they're fucked. OPM Season 2 is the ugliest anime I've seen in a long while.

this is getting more and more confusing with every episode.

You have seen nothing yet. Time Travel, Time Loops, WWI/WWII Empires, Jews....yeah.

Funnily enough, my friend asked me yesterday how Attack on Titan is going. She stopped reading around the part where Eren went full edgelord mode and told Mikasa he always hated her. Smart move.

The manga still has nobody knowing what Eren is fucking doing. But the edgelord Eren thing Armin figured out was an act (No shit). But the manga still doesn't have any cohesive direction yet. Nobody knows where its going, or what Eren and Zeke's plans are and its already probably entered the final battle since all the Titans are in one place. Its probably fucking stupid and all the characters can die for all I care.

Still, if he hated comic reliefs, just kill them all and outright tell the fans to go fuck themselves, not like they'd like anything that'd come out of him at this point.

Again, assuming they want to adapt the time skip stuff. I'm still amazed the hardcore fans are still following considering how much the series has been fucked over time and again. Makes me wonder how much of them are hate watching to see how dumber the story can go and how much of them unironically like it.

Oh god, if they pull a OPM for the next seasons they're fucked. OPM Season 2 is the ugliest anime I've seen in a long while.
Unless they keep it within the Production IG family (like they did with the Junior High spin-off) They could bring back some of the same staff. But given how much trouble its caused for both IG and Wit, that's probably not going to happen. And if it doesn't. Then I don't think even the hardcores would want anything to do with it.

I'm probably in the minority in this thread, but I still enjoy AOT and am caught up to it (both anime and manga). Though my one concern is PATHs and if Iseyama goes full time loop at the end cause that shit would be bad. Despite that, I still have fun with AOT.

However, Attack on Titan probably has the most obnoxious fanbase full of pseudo intellectuals who literally treat AOT as though it's the only dark and mature anime out there in this day and age.

Don't forget their burning hatred of shonen and shonen fans, they literally use shonen as an adjective for bad completely seriously.

I remember when the first episode of season 3 cut down on a lot of the boring filler and the subreddit was livid and declared it shonen the same way ISIS declares a jihad.

But AoT is clearly shonen.
They don't really understand that word.

Some guy earlier mentioned that they could be nihilists, I don't think that'd work because then they would've destroyed all three walls in chapter one, but since we are all sharing stories about how it should have gone, I have a theory about the way it could've gone.

Zeke looks a lot like Erwin and could've very easily ended up being his dad. Erwins dad likely dislikes the monarchy because they keep the truth hidden and suppressed technology, hell, instead of killing him, they could've just tortured him or banished him. Or have him be rescued.
Eventually Erwins dad found a small crew / cult in the outskirts of wall maria and inherited the beast titan along with Reiner, Annie and Bertholt, the kids of disgruntled royalty and/or people the current monarchy had attempted to take out to seize power. They made a plan to force the real king out by destroying the wall. Both putting stress on the royalty and stressing the need to develop technology.

There is no other nation, it's still all within the walls. Given how the ackermans once were hunted by the military police it doesn't seem to off to have them also fail at finding/tracking down the escaped royals.

Unfortunately, if this was the plan the manga would've likely ended somewhere after the coup happened, with the destruction of king friz massive titan and the crowning of historia. However humanity would be free to make air-balloons and whatever else technology they had in the basement, maybe airplane blueprints?

If you want a sad ending I guess you could have Eren, Mikasa and Armin build said airplane and fly to see the ocean before crashing.

Dear God almighty! I knew Attack on Titan went to shit, but never would I have dared to imagine it would be this bad. :stress: @Secret Asshole , you aren't exaggerating back in the general anime thread. Binge reading the recent lore on the wikia and the posts in this thread gave me AIDS. Not only did he author kill off Sasha - which would have been salvageable by establishing Gabi as a main antagonist - but the reader is supposed to like Gabi. As for the rest, what a far cry it was from all the hype moments of the first season. There is no oof.wav loud enough!

It has been brought up if there is any other anime that shit itself on such a noticeable level as Attack on Titan. If I had to pick another anime that went went downhill in a similar vain, I'd argue that post-Frieza saga Dragon Ball comes the closest. If the Cell and especially Buu saga weren't proof that the franchise should have been euthanized, Dragon Ball Super is pretty much the failed Ellen Ripley clone begging for the sweet merciful release of death. Then again, Attack on Titan's audience consists mostly of shippers instead of autistic nostalgiafags that just won't move on.

I guess the ultimate redpill, for the lack of a better term, is that most manga authors are - with some few honorable exceptions - autistic speds, which is reflected in the writing.
