Keep in mind ''High functioning/asperger's'' type Autism is only 9% of the spectrum. Let's focus on the other 91%. Most Autistic people have an I,Q below 70 and are further disabled by Autistic behavior/obsessive routines (could be walking in a circle four 4 hours etc.). Autistic's are for this reason much less trainable than people with Down Syndrome. People with Down's can push carts, bag groceries and work in sheltered workshops at a significantly higher rate than people with Autism. Autistic people are prone to wandering and often need a caregiver present even while in one of those ''grocery bagging'' jobs. Where as a person with Down's is often semi independent in a menial labor service job (table cleaning, grocery bagging).
