Association of hypomelanotic skin disorders with autism: links to possible etiologic role of vitamin-D levels in autism?

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3177756/

wow I don't know if I buy into this. The short version is that Vitamin D deficiencies can cause babies to contract the 'tism.

A better explanation might be that autistic people spend less time outdoors, and get less sunlight exposure and therefore less vitamin-D

A correlation between older fathers and autistic children has also been found. Although autism is hereditary, it's still unknown if the age of the father plays a biological influence. It could just be that fathers who are semi-autistic themselves take longer to conceive children with someone.

I remember reading a while back that there's a much higher rate of autism in the children of Somali refugees in Sweden compared to other refugees, and one of the hypotheses was that the mothers just weren't getting enough vitamin D during pregnancy from the combination of really dark skin + islamic body coverings + weak Swedish sunlight (especially in winter).

The same exact thing is being seen in both Minnesota and Sweden -- so this is something intrinsic to the Somalis themselves, but we still don't know why.

OK, I'm probably late with this. I know I said everyone's on the autism spectrum somewhere (i.e. everyone can display traits that are similar to ones displayed by people with ASDs) but why do so many tumblrinas claim to have some form of autism or ADHD? As a person with actual diagnosed autism it kind of annoys me.

Also last week when I was on holiday I met up with another friend of mine who also has aspergers. We both have differing personalities but we get on really well. He's far more independent than I am given that he grew up on the continent whereas I grew up in Scotland, and I realised this when we were talking about what we'd got up to since we last met (which was a year ago).

Both of this illnesses are in a way just debilitating enough for a sjw. You can have one or both of them and still reach a good position in life; also some really respected people in history were claimed to have them and were still awesome. Albert Einstein for example was quirky but is nowadays kind of a shorthand for a brilliant scientist.
AD(H)D and autism inflicted people also get positive attention from their families and other people who know this stuff and understand the limits and reasons for that behaviour. It's easy for a sjw to see that and want to have it too, kinda riding the bandwaggon.

If you are intelligent chances are that you don't get your diagnosis until later in life; something that must be like a tumblrina's wet dream. You can get a handicap everyone can pity you for but still get something out of it that makes you superior, too. And people with either or both disorder also try to look at the positive aspects of them, because if they weren't, life would be just a hellhole sometimes. But this is another thing a sjw can claim for themself to feel special about themselves.

AD(H)D at least is described with kind of a catalogue of shortcomings and the thing is that this stuff also happens to normal people from time to time. The big difference is that the one with the disorder experience that shit much, much more often, even if they actively work against it.

Other disorders are much more fucked up. For example I could only imagine a true narcicist being proud of of being one - everyone else knows that this kind of people are fucked up big time and should be avoided if you are vulnerable to them and care for your own mental health. And so on...

AD(H)D and autism are the mental disorders that can be the most easily exploited for pity points and excuses and on the other side deliver good aspects to let yourself look better. So it's kind of understandable that the tumblerinas like to diagnose themselves with it.

So I ordered MDMA because I read it was supposed to be the next big cure for social anxiety or autism, and they just felt like caffine pills. What a rip-off.

this friend of mine with Autism just wants to incessantly talk about big bang theory. He doesn't even want to say anything about it really, just recite the plots of episodes. All his fond memories and references are from sitcoms and cartoons.

I was at that stage once, when I was 12 I incessantly recited the entire scripts for Pokemon episodes. Later I moved onto south park.

I'm sorry to everyone

Do hot autistic people exist? I've seen a picture of a chick with peanut butter that was kind of cute. But do hawtistics exist in the real world?

Well both my brother and I were diagnosed with autism when we were little.

Growing up, I always felt a little ashamed that I had it. I was super paranoid of other people finding out about it and treating me like I'm dumb or some social pariah.

I try not to worry about it as much anymore now. Me getting it was out of my control and there isn't much I can do about it now other then do my best to appear to be normal. Whatever that's supposed to be. >_>

And hey, if there's anything that I've learned during my time here, it's good to laugh at yourself every once in a while.

Autism doesn't change how you look does it? It's a neurological disorder or something isn't it? Sorry I sound like a dick head probably but I'm honest and true.

Autism is a genetic disorder affecting a lot of the genomes, so it makes sense that it would show up in the face for natural selection. I am not saying this is a blanket statement, but look at cows and even non cows on the internet.
Here's a really nice looking guy with Apergers...guy

He's a handsome guy but it seems like he has facial "ticks" or something g that are noticeably autistic but I'm also looking for it. I might look autistic as fuck on youtube if I ever filmed myself for it I suppose

I've met a lot of autistic people over the last couple of years and I can say with a lot of confidence that most of them range from average-looking to smother-it-Jesus-Christ. There are very few attractive ones amongst them, because even if they do get lucky genetics-wise they need to know how to take care of themselves too.

Try to be a decent person and disclose only to those who you think are decent people, too. Sometimes you need to do it, or otherwise people will attribute some odd behaviour to a bad character, if they don't know there is a medical reason for it. Like when you leave a social gathering for a while, because it overwhelms you sensorily. If people don't know that, they might think you are not interrested in spending time with them, while you just want to prevent too much exhaustion (and by extension a meltdown).

Does that suprise you even a little bit? Many autistics have sensoric issues and stuff that is no big deal for a neurotypical person can cause high irritation; on bad days even crossing the border into painful territory. It's only natural to try to avoid that kind of stuff.
And it shouldn't be a big deal, as long as people maintain proper basic care.

We learn social skills by emulating others. People with autism have some impairment in this ability, so they may not really "get" how to cultivate an attractive appearance. It's like trying to play the guitar when you only know one chord, and even that you mess up half the time.

Here's an explanation from Cracked, from before it went to shit.

A correlation between older fathers and autistic children has also been found. Although autism is hereditary, it's still unknown if the age of the father plays a biological influence. It could just be that fathers who are semi-autistic themselves take longer to conceive children with someone.

Older fathers have sperm with more genetic errors in them than younger fathers.

The human brain is very, very complex. It takes thousands of genes working in perfect balance to create a healthy brain. Altering even one can cause changes that are very difficult to predict. Pointing at a genetic cause for autism, even across many genes, requires truly massive sets of data and tools to analyze it that simply don't exist. And that's before we even consider environmental effects.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's at 3. And really I guess I'm pretty lucky. I'm holding a job, pretty damn good at it too. I also graduated with honors recently. So yeah, pretty normal I guess. I've never thrown a pity party for myself either. While it sucks, it's at least easier to power through than other problems that I have.

Though the "die autists" comments here do make me uncomfortable.
