I know it's been a couple years since the last conflict between them but recently started back up again resulting in over 100 casualties from both sides so far in the region, What's also interesting is the timing this started while Ukraine is happening. Sadly though this won't be talked about as much as Ukraine has been in the media but will be an interesting development to keep tabs on.

When does the proxy war start and which flag should I buy? I want to put it in my front yard early so I can be smug about it to my neighbors.

I wish they would make flags with our friends on one side and our enemies on the other. That way once the people we're funding become terrorists I can just flip the flag
 
Unless Armenia has a counter to the Drone/Artillery arm of Azerbaijan, I don't see a different outcome this time around. The "Democratic" government that was/is(?) running Azerbaijan decided to buy a bunch of white elephant military prestige weapons, like those SU-30s. They have a grand total of 4 of those things. They spent many, many millions of dollars on hangar queens.

Don't get me wrong, I want the Armenians to beat the shit out of the cousins of the Turkroach, but I don't see it happening.
 
I feel badly for the Armenians, who have been getting ass fucked by geography for thousands of years -- but this is what they get for cozying up to Russia. Aremia had many chances to join NATO and did not, of course because of much pressure from Moscow, but nothing much worth doing is ever easy.

It sounds like Azerbaijan is going to truck them frankly. Armenia doesn't seem to have a chance.
 
Looks like the flag choices are between Iran and Israel, Persians or Jews guys.

While Armenia are having anti government protests, Azerbaijan are having pro government ones in the streets while holding their flags.

The last round in this conflict occurred entirely in Nagorno-Karabakh which is legally recognized by most of the world as belonging to Azerbaijan, even if Armenia had de facto control over it since the 1990s after the war. This meant that Armenia could not put an Article 4 request into the CSTO for defense, since technically Azerbaijan was merely asserting control over its sovereign lands according to the CSTO and UN view. However the recent spat has occurred mainly on legal Armenian soil so I'll be interested in how Putin reacts to this, they're deeply overstretched in Ukraine and both Armenia and Azerbaijan are CSTO members.

Decades of bad diplomatic policy have fucked Armenia, they have no real path out of this mess at the moment, they're going to get fucked hard since Russia cannot aid them at all, this is a repeat of the fate Serbia had to suffer in the 1990s when NATO went full tilt on them without any protector.

Shoigu - the Russian Defense Minister, will help Armenia with negotiations, nothing else was reported. Besides the fact that Russia most likely could not help Armenia because of Ukraine, there is a possibility that there is no desire to help Armenia because of their pro-Western policy. There are also many Azerbaijanis and Armenians in Russia, and Russia has neutral relations with both countries, so maintaining the status quo without choosing favorites will be Putin's goal.

Actually, no. I thought so too, but it turns out Azerbaijan left the CSTO in 1999.
 
Whoever wins, here is hoping its conclusive - All these fragments of unsustainable countries have to be consolidated some at some point, and its better for it to happen decisively as opposed to a hundred years of decay into african warlordism.

Ah you're right, they remain in the CIS though, there was various motions between 2018 to 2021 about them rejoining the CSTO so maybe that is what confuses everyone. Wikipedia has a handy chart to explain all of the byzantine relationships these nations have with each other. Without Russia I still feel the CSTO is largely defanged and won't do anything regarding this conflict beyond trying to initiate a cease fire and start talks, maybe this is just brinksmanship by Azerbaijan since they know Russia can't intervene using military means. It doesn't seem like this has escalated beyond just firing rockets and artillery across the borders.
