Babylon 5 - A underrated sci-fi show.

Man, this show had some hot women in it, and she was one of them. I always thought she was strangely attractive.
Delenn was fairly asexual in season 1 of B5... I forget where, but I vaguely remember seeing Straczynski himself say that originally she was supposed to be a Minbari MtF tranny (I believe still played by the same actress from the beginning), but the network said no. I'm glad that didn't happen, even if he isn't.

Wow. Some art really does succeed in spite of the artist, doesn't it?

Just because I like you guys so much, I went out of my way to find it...

I'm not entirely sober at the moment so I cant really do it right now, but anybody reading this has my full permission to properly embed/archive that tweet from JMS himself:

Edit: That tweet was apparently a response to this article: https://io9.gizmodo.com/the-strange-secret-evolution-of-babylon-5-5985727 which says the same thing.

At least this isn't some gay Dumbledore shit and he actually said that in 1992 before it would have been save or popular.

Ignoring the obvious fact that the tweet I posted (and even more obvious than that, literally *EVERY* tweet in existence, and hell most of the internet.) came about *after* 1992. Hell, I'm actually willing to believe you when you say that JMS had socially justarded beliefs before being a social justard was as common as it is today... But tbh, that only makes me think even less of him. Ok, so you had stupid fucking principles before having stupid fucking principles was as common as it is in the present day... You still have stupid fucking principles.

RIP.
She was my celebrity crush for ages, so this one hit me harder than most.

IIRC, the reason it got canned wasn't because the network said no, at least not at first. They filmed the pilot intending to go forward with that plan, which is why Delenn looks so androgynous compared to her appearance in season 1, but they tried to use voice modification to make her voice sound male and it didn't work so they jettisoned the idea.

JMS was ahead of the curve on a lot of this kind of stuff. Ivanova and Talia were supposed to end up in a relationship, but the actress who played Talia wanted more screentime and despite JMS telling her she'd get it further down the line, she wanted it Now Now NOW NOW NOW!!!!!!!!! and left so they had to abort that as well.

@TheImportantFart I respect your opinion, you may very well be correct, but I was literally quoting what jms has said recently... I even found the source...

I know, and if you read the article he's responding to (which I've actually read before and is where I now remember I got the info I set out above) it backs up what I said, straight from the horse's mouth and the posts they quote were written at the time of broadcast

On a similar note, to get revenge on Andreas Katsulas for a prank he played on him at a convention, JMS concocted a fake storyline where G'Kar would become a woman and he and Londo would end up as lovers. He wrote an entire fake script, had the wardrobe department start making up costumes and sent Andreas in to get a body cast done for the new prosthetics (which was apparently a torturous process) and only then did he reveal it was all a joke.

Say what you will about the man, that's god-tier trolling.

She was funny, too. I fondly remember one of the episodes after she became part human when she co-opts Ivanova - one of the least girly women on the ship, to help her with her hair. Ivanova asks her "well... what have you been washing it with?" and De'lenn looks at her with an expression like a surprised hamster and just goes... "washing?" Anyway, after a whole episode with a long-suffering Ivanovna helping De'lenn adapt as a running B-plot it finally ends with them both in a lift and just as the doors are closing De'lenn says: "I've been getting these cramps" and Ivanovna's face in that instant is great.

Sad loss, Rest in Light, Mira.

If I can add one more thing to this post without in anyway diverting from the sad loss of such a fine actress and lovely person, you talk about the hot women in the show. I have to say Patricia Tallman as Lyta Alexander was a huge crush of mine, especially in that little leather tunic jacket she used to wear!

There's a panel with many of the cast on stage at some con years later and Patricia Tallman is one of them. She makes some comment about how she used to be beautiful and someone in the audience calls out "you still are" and the delight on her face is adorable. And you know what? He ain't wrong.

Apparently the show's finally been upscaled to HD, but it comes with a bit of an asterisk in that the CGI sequences haven't been given the same polish for reasons already covered in this thread.

Still, might be a good opportunity for a rematch. I've been reading the scripts again recently and its put me in the mood.

Oh god, no.

I love B5, but the CGI and the makeup was were the only things that looked good. The props and sets and costuming was mostly abysmal trash, and I can't imagine HD-ifying it is going to do it any favors.

Apparently, Delenn ended up being a female character who stayed female (merely morphing from Mimbari female to Mimbari/Human hybrid female) because Mira Furlan went all "hell hath no fury" on Straczynski until he finally agreed to drop the whole tranny concept for the character.

Holy fuck — Miran Furlan, Stephen Furst, and Jerry Doyle all died since I’ve been out of the B5 loop? That’s incredibly depressing. Not sure I could handle a rewatch at this point.

The body count from this show’s cast is as shocking as the original Black Sabbath lineup all being alive.
