I'm surprised zombieroomie doesn't get more hate. Lazy, 3/4 posed, copy and paste, IP ripoffy talking heads. The author had an "epic" showdown toward the end which came out around the same time as Marvel Endgame, and by coincidence copied liberally from it.
Good god that thing is still going? I remember the first part of is was kind of a funny take on the Odd couple type story with zombies, but then it just kept going. I never really looked in to it because it just seemed so meh for lack of a better word. I don't ever remember anyone really talking about it.

God I just looked in on it and I just have one thing to ask, How did the zombies hair grow?

They ended the "main storyline" and then rebooted it. The ending was so fucking gay I don't remember exactly what it was, just the witchy tsunyandere turned muffeater and reset reality for everyone so they could undo some of the more retarded story decisions and make it less lore-heavy.

edit: just realize the guy uses the name John Wigger. lol.

thats the thing. Its lazy and the art isn't eyebleeding and the creator isn't a an asshat or vocal lolcow. So no one cares.
I think actually you might be the first person I've ever run into who's actually mentioned it, I only found it through the "collective" it was a part of. I found it too boring to follow DESPITE gothgirl tiddy but... I forget what webomic linked to it, but I'd see the banner pop up every couple months and catch up if I wasn't upto anything more important. When i dropped whatever webcomic lead me there, I stopped reading it.

So its pretty avoidable which I think adds to it just flying completely under the radar.

Yep. The character is an ersatz, modern Glenda the Good Witch and is literally named Glenda, and is a good witch. She is opening Marvel style portals to let in the main characters to the final battle. She's a lesbian deus ex machina. The author uses her liberally toward the end,, and if I recall correctly she reverses time to redo the final battle with a more ideal outcome. John just copied Endgame. This was after about a year of inactivity on the comic during covid, and when he returns to writing he just copies Endgame.

haha yeah always good for a laugh

You make excellent points. I agree, and I would also check in like that from time to time. I was always just so put out how bad it was. I was disappointed every time.

I just ... hate it. haha

That one's great, even for just random quotes.

This one is also hilariously bizarre. The wife buys a fake rubber dick to wear around, and the totally hetero husband gets really into it.

I dunno, I just couldn't work up any strong feelings about it anyway, except for the punchline usually being "Remember POPULAR FRANCHISE?!".

It was sort of fascinating to see that the better that Wigger got at making pictures the worse the comic looked.

When a fucking gag comic tries to get a plot. That comics been around so long, it started when zombies were the big thing and now much like the concept of zombies themselves it's a shambling corpse.

The best part of the cuck comic is even in the idealized lens of cartoons, she's fat.
Something I like seeing especially in this thread is how artists try to cute up their weirdest features. you will have artists make their self insert look like some weird Steven Universe OC.

I had to do a double take on this one because my brain just went to College Roomies From Hell

26 fucking years and she is still going! This bitch puts Oda to shame.

wow, twenty-six years of ... college humor? It's sad when a man or woman doesn't know they've aged out of something, but this is egregious.
It's a 26 year old soap opera with demons, mutants, superheroes but it's still boring as fuck. I remember being in high school and dropping it because it was lame. Circa 2006 the plot was that the brunette one was pregnant and her evil mother wanted to extract the embryo from her body to put it inside her because her then boyfriend was an evil scientist with an underwater lab.

I make it sound more interesting than it is.

I won't give her too much grief for sticking with the same thing as long as she has. After all, Schulz made it 50 years with kiddie humor

That said, I thought CRFH had actually come to a conclusion shortly after they all landed in hell and Satan told them it was over for them.

Anyone remember GPF? That one actually did come to a real conclusion after 20-several years. Give him some real credit for not just fading away in a permanent temporary hiatus like so many others.

I was aware of some of the goings-ons of the CRFH community. She was in it for the money, it beat getting a day job.

That said, I thought CRFH had actually come to a conclusion shortly after they all landed in hell and Satan told them it was over for them.
No, it never ended. It just entered life-on-mars levels of hiberation for a good number of years.

So Maritza was a housewife from Mexico. She did CRFH in leiu of getting a part time job, for about the same ammount of time commitment, because Gringo dollars made it very easy.
She had ideas about the comic, but it was all very much make it up as she went along, which is why it was such a schitzo mess.

She was also... she was way too accessible by the community. She would hang out in the official IRC (for zoomer, IRC is old people Discord, with no voice chat) and get her dick sucked by the fans and have lots of discussions, but also would sit and listen; and by her own admission would adjust content and story based on what people were saying.

I checked all the way around around the time @TopTierHealer healer did because the updates were glacial and the story was nonsensical (I THINK that was because she was preggers/new mom; I think she also had some health problems. but I dropped most of the lore as it was gay and the Keenspot forums are all long gone)

She tried to do another comic about some "Magical Realism" (Spics love retarded "magical realism" for whatever reason, I'm guessing because their ulcerous spanaird brains and their lazy spic genes leave them unable to plan for the future or contextualize the past and thus what passes as the latin mind only exists in the present.) that went over like a lead balloon and failed to generate an audience, especially because she was back to her CRFH tricks of posting one page a week and only moving the story along a single milimeter...and then getting bored, off-paneling all the stuff that would have been interesting, and moving on to the next thing.
Anyway, during this time (probably to try to fish for any readers for her good-art-what-plot side project) she 'soft rebooted' & time-skipped CRFH (apparently also renaming it from College Roomies From Hell!!! to CRFH; possibily also a rights issue, or maybe she was concerned about catholics learning she made something with HELL in the name). Not a full continuity reset, but skipped ahead a few years from the last CRFH comic where one of the characters had fought Satan to a stand-still, injured him, and even the good guys got away.
So the "soft reboot/time skip" was to make things "new reader friendly"; the comic was reestablishing characters and motivations and there were several RADICAL personality shifts.

Anyway.

Sadly her archive doesn't list dates so I couldn't tell you if the story is moving along at any sort of reasonable pace, but I guess she gave up CRFH.net - I'm guessing that might be a rights issue with the Keenspot people.

Actually thinking it, its probably slow enough and just-bad enough it might worth making that this thread's new Hate Read.

Anyone remember GPF? That one actually did come to a real conclusion after 20-several years. Give him some real credit for not just fading away in a permanent temporary hiatus like so many others.
I remember GPF. IIRC the guy brought the main storyline to an end and then did the "soft reboot thing" where it was just a bunch of strips about things before the drama metastasized and took over.

faux edit: I was wrong, looks like he ended the strip last year. I'll have to look at it later than give my piping hottakes.
Actually it looks like the comic ended but then be make a whole 2nd comic as an actual ending adn that seems to still be updating?

After all, Schulz made it 50 years with kiddie humor
Bro there more fun ways to commit suicide than besmirching Schulz in a comic space.

The current thing over at GPF--the Surreptitious Machinations II thing--was originally supposed to be a subscriber exclusive or the like since the original SM story arc wrapped up in 2002.
She was also... she was way too accessible by the community. That was one of the features of the early webcomics scene, though. Unless you were Illiad opsec wasn't really a thing anyone bothered with. Emails were on home pages and every strip had a message board--as long as you had an audience, you had feedback. Parasocial? Oh, it absolutely was, but it was a fun scene to be part of as a comics fan.

I kid because I love. It was that or Walker's staff and new military recruits.

I remember kind of a plot when the cast went to hell for the first time and...it was over, like over, over. All threads closed, they had an adventure in the lower planes and went back.
Suddenly she had the idea to kill one of the guys forever and close the webcomic.
The plot was that 2 joke characters that are satanists overheard one of the main cast talking about "devils advocate". They think it's some sort of artifact, grab a shotgun, hold the cast at gunpoint, have an accidental missfire and shoot one of the cast in the stomach. That was meant to be the end of the comic, the guy with laser eyes gets a stomachful of lead and dies bleeding.
Since she was interacting a lot with the fanbase, they hated it with a passion so she scrambled new plot threads where faustian bargains are made to save the dying man.
And from there more plot on top of plot where the College setting just got burried under a metric ton of melodrama.

As for your /pol/ rant, first, Aran is whiter than you and second:

Magical Realism is notoriously difficult to do right. The long and short of it is the absurdity of life overshadows whatever supernatural events happens around us. Sometimes you just need to feel it. I'm surprised there hasn't been a resurgence after covid and the biden administration. Not just the insanity during the pandemic, the reaction after. It feels like a tragicomedy.
Just take clownworld and add a ghost or a guy who lived to be 150 through sheer force of will alone and you're on the right track.

I want to read what she made but I'm already guessing it will be less about life being wild ride, ghosts and goblins included and more about focusing on the magic and making the whole plot revolve around it.

All cheap stories just go for the farcical and become a discount Family Guy. They have nothing to say about life and you don't get to connect with any of the characters. It's literally sleepwalking through events with a straight man with all the craziness around him and then it sort of ends.

That and she probably made it a discount anime. Too exagerated, not enough soul in their characters. If she had made a story about life in a Mexican small town and added some more paranormal crap she would have hit the mark. You have not seen zeal like a mass in Queretaro, it's surreal. This was before her time but a lot of Kdramas fall under the category of magical realism. I wouldn't know that many, I have only seen "miss day and night" and "move to heaven" but she could rip those off for inspiration.
(around the time baby healer was 2 months old and could only fall sleep if I held him for over an hour in my arms).

The go-to magical realism story is 100 years of solitude. It's important to not try to blue-curtain the book and just take things as they are. The magic is secondary to the isolation, history repeating itself, the inability to compromise, violence and chaos erupting over the most trivial things (the book says it's because the federal goverment decided to force all towns to paint their houses blue). If there's a ghost here, an insomnia disease there, orgasms that cause earthquakes, children born with pig's tails or a rain that falls for 3 and a half years that's just the way it is.

Another go-to is "I, The Supreme", which is mainly the biography of a LATAM dictator that has to deal in chapter 2 with a village that ages anyone 1 year every day they are there.

As for webcomics, the sequel to "It Hurts!", "Please forgive me", I would count as a good Magical Realism story. I do recomend reading both, the first one did remind me of the last years of elementary school, first years of high school. Finally, for a Magical Realism manga recommendation I would suggest "Freesia" by Jiro Matsumoto.

Oh yeah I vaguely remember that happening. IIRC it wasn't to be the end of the comic, but she didn't want to write the character anymore so decided to just kill him off not realizing the community liked the character.
(Actually I think she had a poll and maybe threatened to off the loser, people not realizing she was serious? ) she would do retarded shit like that regularly.
Too much telenovela I guess - good at melodrama, absolutely terrible at consistent plot, writing, or output. and humor that is either monkey cheese, running monkey cheese, or has not aged well.
(speaking of ancient webcomics putting out a comic bi-yearly, there's probably enough Sluggy Freelance backlog to go through now)

Its been so long and the comic really wasn't memorable (and moving so glacially) and suffered from wordswordwords.

She also paywalled into the books very important storylines covering backstories of some of the characters and then would reverence them in the comics like you were supposed to know WTF was going on.
But again, everything was so disjointed it really didn't matter.

I want to read what she made but I'm already guessing it will be less about life being wild ride, ghosts and goblins included and more about focusing on the magic and making the whole plot revolve around it.
I did a little digging and it was called Power Nap. Its sort of buried but completed & still online. Enjoy (?)

Rated dumb for carrying water for retarded spic "Magical Realism".

yes god forbid you ask questions of your literature. If this shit is secondary, why include it. Answer: Its an excuse for retard writing "um see a wizard did it".
I'm sorry you have spic brainworms, hope that gets better and you get less indo.

No worse than Subnormality. god I hate this canadian faggot with a passion.

The Xombie strategy. Fucking bold.

Thank you! I hate it already! From the very first page. The first 2 pages are already ripping off "Scary stories to tell in the dark". There is a giant dragon demon chasing after a salary man....only to give him an umbrella because he says it will rain today. Literally this:

1760704003305.png

then it turns out it was only a dream.

I've read the first 15 or so pages. She is trying to make a "corporations bad" kind of webcomic with the main character stuck in a dead end job. Again, here's the problem. She wants to make Brazil but she is missing the point. I will read as much as I can and give a summary because her art has improved (or it's another artist) but I see already some demons in the background, so it will take "inspiration" from Ugly Americans.

My point: you can't make Office Space with orcs. Office Space works because you can watch the main character and say, "yeah, been there man". Even if the job is cushy as all fuck there are times that you would rather dig ditches than endure a Lumbergh. Or the consultants scenes. It feels real, even 30 years later (except we now have fucking open spaces, mothefuckers, I'd kill to get my old department 5 man office back). You can't sprinkle in some fairy dust and go back to complaining about being a paper pusher. It's a story about corporate life from someone who has seen the corporate world from the outside. Like current year simpsons vs classic simpsons.

She's making shitty fantasy, calling it already.

It's allright man, I'm rating you autistic for not understanding that the magic aspect is not a deus ex machina nor Chekhov's gun.
The core of 100 years will always be, "if you live alone you will degenerate and you don't you will be assimilated. There is no winning in life".
Here's my counterpoint: giving answers to questions no one asked is how we got midichlorians, sometimes things just are.
I can also add Dostoyevsky's "the double" for another example of MR but I've derailed the thread enough.

Anyways, agree to disagree?
