I remember playing hours on end and finding ways to cheese through enemies, setting up coop and playing with friends.

Wondered if any others had an interest in the series.

Despite my avatar name and constant references in my profile, I haven't beaten the first game yet. It's fucking tough. I remember the first time I went to the Friendly Arm Inn and got decimated by Tarnesh. Baldur's Gate doesn't hold your hand that's for sure.

So far I'm at Chapter 4. I tried going through Cloakwood but kept getting dogpiled by wyverns. Right now I'm scrambling about trying to find something that will give me an edge. The thing is my spellbooks are pretty barren and I have no idea where to get any more useful spells; I'm still using stuff like Magic Missile even though I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to have found Fireball somewhere.

I would definitely like to play co-op one day. Just need to find friends who actually have the game.

I've played through the first game and some of the second. They're all right, but I'm not that big on D&D anymore so my interest in the series flagged before I could finish.

Finished the first one, but never in coop as we mostly just fucked around (but it was better than single player)

GOG came around and bought both, once again finishing the first but barely made it 2/3 of the second, the entire patching procedure sucked balls but it was worth it.

Haven't started on the enhanced edition yet.

Would give anything to see people do a "let's play: LOLcow edition" where people make pick the worst stats for their chars and use portraits of our cows.

I have very fond memories of the BG series and the fact that mods are still being made for it kinda cements it's legacy as one of the best iso RPGs.

I didn't bother with the Enhanced Edition. From what people said their rewriting and additional characters and scenarios were pretty terrible. And a few choice SJW characters including a very blantant tranny character (written by, of course, a troon) which seems utterly redundant in a world where a belt of change gender exists and MAGIC.

Smartly, their Enhanced Edition of Planescape Torment didn't add anything aside from new lore written by the original writer. I think they learned their lesson at least.

The main problem with the Enhanced Editons is that you can no longer obtain the original versions legally, at least not to my knowledge. But otherwise I should say that they thankfully didn't rewrite anything in 1 and 2. The complaints about rewriting were concerning Siege of Dragonspear and changing characterization of certain companions from original BG in SoD. The new content in EEs is universally terrible, but can be fairly safely ignored. The EEs of IWD and PS:T were alright though, added some cool QoL stuff like Tab highlighting in PS:T.

I had to look this up, because when I purchased the game you could choose between the original and the Enhanced Edition. I got the original editions of 1 and 2 because they was part of a massive sale.

I don't really understand why they would do this. It just limits the consumer's choice. I haven't played the Enhanced Editions yet, but I think it's better if both versions are on there, not only for comparison's sake but also for people who want to see the originals in their untouched glory.

Legality VS ethics is a convoluted topic when it comes to old video games, and I won't delve into it at length here,I'll just say that if it's so old that the IP holders arent even distributing it anymore, you're 99.9% safe not to get in legal troubles if you find someplace to pirate it...

I just wanted to comment about the remark that it's the best iso rpg out there, someone else mentioned planescape torment which i would argue as better, also Champions of Norrath, divinity:original sin,the Sacred series,etc...
not saying Baldurs Gate 1 or 2 was bad at all,I just wouldnt call it the "best", not even close.

Used to love the first game, but didn't play anything after that.

Saw a sale for all of them recently on mobile, but decided against trying to play the point and click on a cellphone.

I have BG and BG2 for Android and it works quite well, if you have a big phone. They added buttons to the UI for pause, quicksave, and similar.

I bought a legal copy on Walmart off the Internet it must of been old stock.

I'm pretty sure the GOG versions still give you the original and enhanced editions if you buy the enhanced version, at least that's how it worked for Planescape.

Yes it seems to still be the case. They mention that you get the EEs and original Balder's Gate 1 and 2 Complete.

Yeah, but doing it that way gives money to Beamdog and they really don't deserve it.

I need to play the mainline Baldur’s Gate games on PC sometime, I enjoyed Dark Alliance on the PS2 quite a bit.

I've played the Dark Alliance games on PS2, they were good. I heard the remakes/sequels crammed LGBT shit in there, so it's a hard pass these days, unfortunately.

Baldur's Gate can pretty much be summed up in two sentences:
- Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes!
- You must gather your party before venturing forth.

Yes,
More so in the many many mods for the engine.
My favorite mods were Kelsey (Sorcerer) and Keldorn which really expand on the characters in the game.
My favorite characters are Viconia - as she carries nicely all through the game especially if you seek her mod.
