It's not a BJD, but today I ordered my first Licca-chan doll!

I got Licca-chan's mom since I just kinda fell in love with her as soon as I saw her on the Amazon page. I think it's the red lipstick, since Licca-chan is supposed to be pretty young so she tends to have more natural makeup on normally. She's apparently gonna take 3-4 weeks to arrive but I am H Y P E D

I want to get an azone pureneemo body to put her on so that I can pose her, I just don't know which variant to get. I kinda wanna get the LL bust one with the extra anime tiddy since it's easier to find on ebay and she's supposed to be a grown-up doll, but I don't know whether the extra cleavage would make the shirts not fit. I'm not sure whether I should get the body in Small or Medium either even though there's not much difference - whichever one I use I'll end up going a size down for more childlike Liccas so there's a height difference, but I don't know how well the Licca clothes fit on each body. I want the Licca-chan clothes to still fit since they're hella cute. I have no clue if any kiwis in this thread have any experience with making hybrids like these and it's fine if y'all don't but I kinda wanna have a vague idea since these bodies are like £30 each so I can't buy them all.

I have two pure neemo bodies (I forget the types), and a Licca fakie and a Jenny. If Licca's Mom is on a Jenny body she'll fit Skipper clothes fine.

I'll see if I can get pics when I get home.

To anyone who previously repainted Monster High dolls, how different are they and BJDs IRT texture and painting? Seeing as how many artists worked on MH dolls as practice before moving on to official ones it obviously isn't that huge of a difference, but I'm more curious about smaller details such as realistic skintones and the way acrylics react.
A few weeks ago I bought small brushes from the local art store as well as two dolls and had everything else around the house except for the paint and sealer (currently shipping from overseas) so I pretty much have all the supplies on hand.

I'm planning on purchasing a few of my own in the future for a story I'm writing but I don't want to risk screwing up something I spent $200+ on.

I found some really helpful pictures that really show the size difference between the doll I'm getting and a normal Licca; I knew that the mom doll was slightly taller but the size difference was kinda hard for me to visualize. They seem to be similarly proportioned in the torso in these photos so they might be able to share clothes with each other, but the sleeves/skirts will look a little bit shorter/longer on each doll obviously since the mom doll has longer limbs.

If you seal them right, there isn' t much difference in comparision to painting a resin doll but the silicone may bend a bit if you apply to much pressure while resin is a 100% hard surface.
Basically, don' t apply to much weight to the head and seal it often enough and you should be fine.
I did faceups before I did repaints and I didn' t think it was that much of a difference. If you want to have really saturated colours I suggest having at least a few acrylic colours tho. (white is very helpful!)

I' ve already said it 3 times or so but Sealing is the key to success lol

...If Licca's Mom is on a Jenny body...

Now that you come to think of it, Licca's mom is about 26cm tall according to her Amazon page, so she's similar in height to Jenny. Since they're both by the same company it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that they have similar proportions to one another too.

I've been really indecisive about choosing an articulated body for my doll mainly because I'm unsure whether the stock Licca clothing would fit a pure neemo. But chances are it would probably fit a Jenny, right?

Turns out there was a pair of celebrity tie in Jenny dolls from years ago...that came with articulated bodies! I think there were multiple Jennys that could move, but these secondhand ones are only £13 on Etsy ((sans like £5 shipping) )- the hands and feet are a little yellowed because of their age apparently but from the sale photos it doesn't look too bad. I'm not sure whether the skin tone matches though, which is the main worry with this one...

I probably won't bother but I kinda want to see if the hands/feet can be removed somehow and maybe replaced with brand new Azone appendages, since I saw a website with information about the body that said that it's actually a really old Azone body.

I got a shipping notification recently, so my doll will arrive pretty soon.

How does greening happen, exactly? Is it something that only happens with tan resin, or does it happen to darker colours and fantasy colours as well?

Greening or yelloweing can happen with all skil colours, but is especially bad with tan skintones. However, the situation has gotten a lot better in the last years and extreme greening barely happens anymore. Personally, I never cared much about not letting my dolls get in contact with light( i didnt put them right in front the window ofc, but they never or rarely were in their box) and they haven' t noticeably yellowed yet. So yeah, it can happen and maybe will over time but most of the time it really isnt that bad. Just avoid direct sunlight.

It's been a while, but iirc what created most of the greening was the red pigment being unstable and fading out. (Red + green = brown) The red fading out happens with dolls with pink tones, but I also have a grey doll that also has a noticeable yellow hue over the years. (Resin yellows either way)

Only one of my tan dolls has greening and it was that way direct from the company. It was their first time releasing a tan doll and they didn't have the experience to deal with it. (Imo, they didn't mix the colours well enough and it was spotty)

I have a Souldoll I got in August 2011 right before the mold was discontinued. It was when a bunch of sculptors left and I was never really into dolls but the default faceup and model presented on the site looked exactly like one of my favorite J celebs so I picked him up. If I remember right the model was called Chu. He's actually currently unstrung, and I never actually bought any clothing or wigs.

I'm a terrible owner I guess.

MSC doesn't yellow and has a UV version to prevent it. You might be mixing the yellowing idea with Dullcote.

Dullcote is the absolute worst, avoid it all costs. It ruined too many faceups for me but did come off pretty easily with a little hand sanitizer. There are some better sprays and i found a list once, humbrol is pretty decent

Fuck this gay earth. REEEEE-

I have a slight problem. My doll arrived and she's great but her hair needed a wash so I did that thing. I figured I may as well behead her for this since I'm gonna put her on a different body anyway (when it eventually stops being retained in customs, one can dream...) But while I was rinsing the conditioner out of her hair I perched the head on the bottom of a lip liner pencil so I'd have something to grab onto, except when I went to remove her head from the pencil the plastic tip on the bottom of the pencil came off and it's now stuck inside the head. I've been squeezing this thing and going in there with a small flat screwdriver head to try and pull it out for like an hour now with no luck.

I hope someone has ideas because this is frustrating the fuck out of me.

Do you have tweezers? Or could you try washing/squirting water in the head?

Not much of a doll sperg myself, so I don't know what size hole you're dealing with, but have you tried tweezers? Might help to get a good grip on the sucker. If you get really desperate, you could always go out and get yourself a hemostat. Those fuckers are amazing for pulling shit out of tight places

I tried water, it didn't work. I'll see if I can find my tweezers since I know I have some, but of course the one time I really need them I can't find them at all.

It's a pretty tiny hole.

Do you have a q-tip? Is the lead sticky, or loose enough that you might theoretically be able to shake it out?

I can't shake it out; it rattles around inside the head but the neck hole is too small for that. Now that I have the tweezers if I can get the hollow side of the piece of plastic facing the mouth of the neck hole I could probably grab it and pull it out, but since I have the means to do that now it doesn't want to get in that position again!

It's not sticky at all, it's just a piece of plastic being...plastic.

((also I do have q-tips))

EDIT: This ridge on the inside of the head is now officially my arch nemesis. The plastic keeps getting stuck in it.

I don't collect any dolls, I just admire the customs for BJD and Monster High Dolls a lot!

But, I figured I could share some really, uh. Regrettable mods with you guys, that people sell... For real money.
Including one that was actually paid for, with a positive review.

Candy Corn

Knock-off Bratz Doll

Guess Who This One Is!

I hate to be mean, and I really admire the effort, but these are from a technical standpoint bad.

I went and bought some tiny pliers ((as well as a craft knife in case I needed a last resort)), which after lots and lots of squeezing and pulling managed to get the plastic out! Finally!
