Barb's Over-Protectiveness

Chris is the most treasured piece of Barb's hoarded collection.

I think Chris is the second most treasured piece. Her first piece was the swingin' hep plastic funnel-inventing electrical engineer.

It makes a sick sorta sense. Bob was her first prize. She "put him on the shelf", to use the parlance of professional wrestling. Chris was just second fiddle. Sure, they moved to avoid to avoid the Greene County School board but after that Chris just did whatever he wanted. He could say "Hey Ma, I'm gonna masturbate in front of the middle school" and all she'd hear was "Hey Ma, I'm going to my attraction location.

That all changed after Bob died. The October incident happened, and she crashed, not into slumber, she realized her grip on her life was slipping, like a A4LD automatic transmission. She has nothing in her life to be proud of, so she clings to whatever refuse she can grab.

Dammit. That is just too sad.

If she is really like this, it would be very likely she would follow through on her threats of suicide should Chris drop before she does.

I don't see Barb as over-protective, she has an unhealthy obsession over Chris and I can pinpoint the cause. Think about it, her other son Cole refuses to have anything to do with her and Chris is the only other child she has that will be there for her at her old age. Maybe she thinks Chris can fill in the void that Cole refuses to be a part of her life.

Maybe Barb believes that autistic Chris is her consolation prize from GodJesus for her first son not being doting enough.

The few times we see photos or video of her at places WITH Chris, she is often more involved with the McDonald's sandwich in her hand.

I personally think that Borb just never understood what autism is and felt "we'll our boys a ree-tahd" and proceeded to treat him as such by raising him as an eternal child who always needs him mommy.

More recently it could simply be a case that Chris has proven time and again that, if left to his own devices, he'll run headlong into trouble again and again and simply doesn't learn to stop acting like a jackass in public. So maybe his current seclusion is him being effectively grounded. More likely though I think it's her paranoia and a "them against us" attitude...."Them" being anybody who doesn't live in 14 Branchland court.

^ *Stress Sigh You know this should be in the other thread but i think the only sympathy I will ever have for anything Chris related was at this stage and before, when he was still "innocent", when he still had a chance to be something better, something worthwhile. But since Barb wanted her very own eternal manchild to coddle and who would always love her as Cole never did, and Bob didnt give enough of a fuck to raise him better, he never really had a chance at developing a laudable or benign personality.

This is why I think Chris even now would benefit from professional help and being permanently separated from his host organism. Sure it would be too late to salvage much if anything, but his life would definitely be better than what it became under her flabby fist.
