Thought I would post this. First day back and Bobby Miller gets ROCKED.

He was able to walk off but still unlucky. Third Inning of the entire season and already getting smacked in the head.

Blue Jays fans are melting down this morning because yesterday was Vlad Guerrero Jr.'s self-imposed extension deadline.

He held court with the media this morning saying he's going to test free agency in the fall and that Toronto was nowhere close to meeting his demands.
cant blame him. blue jays had a very brief window of competing for the world series and closed a couple seasons ago

There's an unconfirmed rumor from Big Papi that Vlad's number was 585 million over 13 years - 45 million a year until he is 40.

There was also drama yesterday because Vlad liked an Instagram photoshop with him in a Yankees jersey.

I'm okay with him leaving because I want no part in one of those albatross deals with his body type, limited position flexibility at 1B, somewhat inconsistent track record, etc.

It's too bad that both Vlad and Bo Bichette are going to walk at the end of the year for nothing (or a pittance at the deadline).

It's going to be an annoying middle-of-the-road season in Toronto which management pretends they are contending in Vlad's final year with daily speculation about the future while running out the same failed cast that hasn't been good enough for the last several seasons.

I'd be more upset if he wasn't a Dodger. Absolutely ROCKED

I'm biased as a Rays fan but Vlad Jr is fat and lazy. Bo is a bitch. You're better off in the long run without both. Especially since Vlad Jr will make Prince Fielder look svelte by the end of such a long deal.

Ain't no way the Yanks are paying him that much. They may have learned their lesson with Stanton.

Also lolz:

Caught some of the Jays' ST Opener against the Yankees.

Both Vlad and Bo had shaved heads. Vlad (and even Alejandro Kirk) looked relatively svelte.

Agree in principle though. Nothing personal against either player.

Vlad is too egotistical and delusional.

Bo Bichette has a skillset (weird swing mechanics, bad ball hitter with bad plate discipline, bad SS defense) that isn't going to age well either. Andres Gimenez is probably your SS for 2026 and beyond.

I think these sons feel they have to live up to their father's hype.

We'll hear lots of "RRRrreeeeee" coming soon because Trump said he'll pardon Pete Rose.
March 1 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he would pardon baseball great Pete Rose, criticizing Major League Baseball for barring the all-time hit champion from the sport's hall of fame for gambling.
Rose, who died last year at 83, was banned from baseball for life. He admitted in 2004 that he had bet on games, though never against his own team.
"Over the next few weeks I will be signing a complete pardon of Pete Rose, who shouldn’t have been gambling on baseball, but only bet on his team winning," Trump posted on Truth Social.

"He never betted against himself, or the other team. He had the most hits, by far, in baseball history, and won more games than anyone in sports history."
Trump did not say what the pardon would cover, as Rose was not convicted of a crime.

You just know there is gonna be a revisionist article that's gonna be like, "according to our advanced soyboy metrics, Pete Rose was actually an overrated player! Did we mention he was racist as well!" And it's gonna be tilted "The problematic history of Pete Rose."

Interesting.

I can understand Trump’s thought process here. But absolution by Cheeto Hitler's hand probably still harms Rose's chances of being honored posthumously.

Trump’s pardon was probably aimed solely at the gambling and the tax evasion, but Rose had other skeletons

Rose filed a defamation suit against John M. Dowd in July 2016, after Dowd had alleged in a radio interview the previous summer that Rose committed statutory rape. A motion filed in Dowd's defense contained a sworn statement from a woman who said that Rose had engaged in a sexual relationship with her in the 1970s, when she was a minor and he was in his mid-30s. Rose later acknowledged the relationship, defending himself by saying that he did not know the girl, between 14 and 15 years old at the time, was a minor under Ohio state laws and that he did not have sex with her outside the state.
Wikipedia Statutory Rape Allegation

We've also seen with Barry Bonds and Trevor Bauer that the Commissioner's Office is perfectly happy colluding to keep players they hate out of baseball independent of whether any crimes were ever committed.

You just know there is gonna be a revisionist article that's gonna be like, "according to our advanced soyboy metrics, Pete Rose was actually an overrated player! Did we mention he was racist as well!" And it's gonna be tilted "The problematic history of Pete Rose."

"Charlie Hustle was an example of White Supremacy"

"Why couldn't he be happy playing station-to-station baseball like the rest of the disadvantaged, slow-footed POC sluggers?
"

I’ve seen a few already. Most of the ones I’ve heard on tv or radio are written by people who don’t really know a lot about the story but are chiming in anyway. It’s all the same shit we already know.

If you want an actually interesting thing to read, Schmidt wrote a bit about Rose here: https://www.heraldtimesonline.com/s...ill-never-be-another-pete-rose8217/47577739/#
And this:

Honestly I think Trump did it because Rose was a big Trump guy before he died, and they were friends via WWE.

Archive your shit, especially if it's behind a paywall.

Schmidt was always Pete's greatest former player advocate. He's genuinely grateful to Pete for helping him improve his game (largely through instilling confidence in him) and for helping them win the WS in 1980, and that's on top of already being a fan of his. Pete should long ago have been inducted into the MLB hall of fame, but has been denied due to the petty shit the MLB/HOIF pulled after Pete's banishment by making a then new rule that those banished from the game were ineligible for the HOF. I think this was done a year or so after Pete got banned.

The Pete Rose deal (banned from baseball in exchange for no definitive ruling on betting) was made with Bart Giamatti, actor Paul Giamatti's father and commissioner who died shortly after this. His death has kind of cemented that decision as the guy was basically canonized, even given memorial baseball cards that year.

I think shoeless Joe has a better chance of getting in.

Is that Donruss '90 Commissioner card real?

I remember going to Kmart to buy old Donruss cards in cellophane years late.

I don't really remember any cards with league officials, managers, coaches, umpires, etc though.

I also remember the colloquial opinion on the schoolyard was that Donruss was the shittiest and least valuable baseball card brand of the time.
