A huge trade is taking place between the Red Sox and Giants.

Boston is sending third baseman/designated hitter Rafael Devers to to the Giants for starting pitchers Kyle Harrison and Jordan Hicks, along with two prospects (22 year old outfielder James Tibbs who was the 13th overall pick last summer, and 20 year old pitcher Jose Bello.)

Added interest is that the two teams begin a series on Friday in San Francisco.
Holy shit I didn't think they could move that big of a contract so soon. Obviously they are talking about it on the Sunday night game, it's the Giants vs Dodgers. Maybe i'm crazy but Jeff Passan's shelf/background really bugs me. It's been the same for a while... just a really intentional yet trashy looking smattering of pop culture items records, NES, some baseball stuff. It looks like garbage. This is TV and your average podcaster's shit looks nicer. I like music too but if I was a talking head on sports I would have all sports stuff behind me not 6 random record albums, ten books, 4 NES games. One box of cards, one bobblehead. He looks like a poser is all i'm saying, take the ESPN money and buy some cooler shit to put behind you Jeff.

I don't even know how to feel about the trade. We suck either way but I guess the upside here is we clear some space and work towards the future with our prospects and some decent pick ups in FA or through trades. I will say though, for being one of the biggest clubs in baseball it gets real god damn frustrating that we can't stay consistent on the field and our front office/management can't ever seem to get their shit sorted long-term. The Red Sox are a fucking yo-yo club and I hate it.

It's a win for the Red Sox, they got rid of the whole contract plus have a return. They are not contending and he was not happy there.

I wondered why his name was trending. He must really be unhappy.

There's going to be allot of knee-jerk emotional immaturity about this like there always is when it comes to a blockbuster trade but after the whole 1st base fiasco, the genie wasn't going back in the bottle. This is 100% a trade predicated on a broken relationship but it is what it is. I'm fine with it at the end of the day.

Devers going from the tiny ass Fenway Right field wall to the monstrous Oracle one will be an interesting change of pace for him. Interested to see how the contract pans out.

You guys have hit the nail on the head. I don't care how elite a guy’s swing is. If that’s all he has to offer then he shouldn’t get paid.

There are 2 types of players who you never give a king’s ransom to: hitters who are destined to be the DH by their early 30’s and pitchers with “stuff” but a lengthy injury history.

On top of all of that, Devers has shown himself to be a typical spic nigger curmudgeon who only wants to do shit that makes him look good. Who gives a fuck if the team wants you to play a certain position ? It’s a motherfucking team, jack.

If the star players aren’t leading by example to build the proper clubhouse culture then a team can never be great. Some guys are force multipliers (e.g. Judge, Freeman) and some guys like Devers are active detriments.

Anyways, fuck the faggot ass Giants and fuck Devers.

In more important news, Shohei Ohtani will start tomorrow against the Padres. He may only go 1-2 innings, but the explosion of ticket prices after the news is truly meme tier.

I’m not holding my breath and won’t be surprised if he gets blasted after such a long layoff and only live BP as his preparation…but the ratings for that game are about to go through the roof.

I understand that some Boston fans might have some affection for a guy who's stuck with them for a bit while their other stalwarts like Mookie and Bogaerts left, but if I finally got rid of a clubhouse cancer who shits his pants and throws a tantrum because he's being asked to switch between DH and 1B since his glove is dogshit AND got a prospect along with several arms out of it, I'd be laughing like a madman to the bank as I watch that fucker throw away all the positive momentum they have with Logan Webb and Jung-hoo Lee, lol

Personally I'm not that cut up about it. Of the recent mainstays, Bogie was the one that stung the most. My friend was devastated when we got rid of Mookie but I wasn't all that bothered about him leaving either when I heard about the type of contract he wanted (deserved or not, generational talent or not, these mega deals are always a gamble).

I put the club above any player no matter how much Boston collectively loves them and no matter how much I love them and tbh I soured on Devers the moment he decided to thumb his nose up at us. Either you do what's asked of you or you gotta go. And it wasn't even an unreasonable demand which just adds insult to injury. It was the same shit with Manny too, loved him during his time in Boston and will always appreciate what he did for us but when he started acting a fool towards the end I was just ready to see the back of him.

That motherfucker was acting like they were asking him to play SS or even CF...it's like, bro chill, it's not even that serious...walk across the field and line up at 1st base nigga, shit.

Ohtani takes the mound right now! I wonder how long they will let him go.
Update- first AB is a hit! oops
second batter hit, runners on 1st and 3rd.. don't think he'll pitch too many innings 2 if lucky

I thought that all things considered, it was a very good first outing for him. It's unprecedented that a guy recovering from surgery and not having been on the mound for nearly 2 years would go up against a hot big league lineup and perform how he did. His velocity was excellent and the movement on his pitches was eye-opening. He predictably struggled with command but also got kiked out of a K against Machado by a blind ump.

If Machado is punched out then it's possible that he doesn't even give up a run. On top the great velocity, the contact that he did give up was soft which is what you want if your pitches are finding their bats. Now we just have to hope that he doesn't have any injury flare-ups. To add to the absolute meme that is his career, Ohtani said fuck it and provided his own run support by knocking in 2 RBI's.

Listening to a lot of Boston talk radio about Devers is rather infuriating. I went back and looked at all of the World Series winners since 2002 (the year that Fenway Sports Group took over the club). They've won 4 World Series in the last 23 years. There are only 3 other teams that have had anywhere near that level of success: the Giants (3 wins), the Cardinals (2 wins) and the Dodgers (2 wins). I won't count the Astros and their 2 "wins" because they're cheating cunts.

The Giants won 3 in a period of like 5 years and so while they were "dynastically good", they weren't able to recreate that success over a long period of time. Huge peak and then pretty much all valleys.

The Cardinals won 2 chips a few more years apart which is the sign of a good front office and ownership but again, they've only won 2 against the Red Sox 4.

Then you have the Dodgers...I mean, I support these fags and all that but let's be honest: their "win" in 2020 isn't a legit Championship to me, so it's really 1 win and an asterisk.

So it goes to show just how great the Red Sox have been this century. All of these dumbasses who want the ownership group to fuck off should start attending furry conventions rather than ball games because that's the type of insanity that they would jive with.

I haven't really been following the Ohtani stuff, but I assume the "unprecedented stuff" about his TJS return was the fact that he had no minor league pitching rehab assignments before returning to pitching in the MLB because he's too busy hitting dingers?

Interesting that the 1 for 23 Cashman Yankees is widely viewed as the model front office while the 4 for 23 Epstein/Cherington/Dombrowski/Bloom/Breslow one is considered to be the basketcase ones wasting the Red Sox' legacy and wealth.

I guess it's all relative. I don't have a problem with our front office so much as I can't stand the inconsistency but I guess when you've been spoiled with a franchise like the Patriots, and the Red Sox themselves, in recent times we just expect our premier team in Boston to be even more consistent which on its face is ridiculous, really. Baseball is a game of swings and roundabouts, no team is ever really that consistent long term outside of the Yankees, the regular season warriors that they are. Loser faggots when it matters though :sighduck:. 4 World Series titles in 21 years is a feat most would kill for no matter how you slice it. It's probably because baseball seasons are so damn long, when you have losing and middling seasons the aggravation is just amplified, if that makes sense. For me though there's no one else I would want at the helm outside of FSG.

To give more context it's probably just a spoiled brat thing going on with the people who fucking complain like bitches though. I've seen Boston teams win the big one 13 times in the last 24 years alone, I'm happy as is. I just want to see my teams do well all the time, which is unrealistic obviously. I certainly won't be calling for FSG to sell the club though that would be fucking retarded. And I certainly wouldn't be calling for the culling of ownership because they traded a fat locker room cancer.

I didn't mention that Ohtani did hit 100 a few times and had good movement. Was an ugly inning still somehow. But the Dodgers won.

The Bonds years ended right before that run so it was kind of building up to that point where they were going to be good. But the pitching of guys like Wilson and Lincecum and Bumgarner didn't last forever, they had short runs of greatness. Then Fatass Panda stupidly walked to Boston. They were good in the 7th year of that stretch too but lost the wildcard game (was one game not a series yet).

I was listening to a music station and even the DJ was going off on his dumb take on Devers. Must have been a Sox fan. He was lamenting that Devers was the last piece of their last world series team. Then was going off about how cold the business side of baseball is. Seemed like a dumb take by someone who doesn't follow the business side much. This guy on the radio must not have paid attention to how Devers was kicking and screaming tantrums since Bregman got signed.

The announcers were saying he did have something like 30-40 pitch simulated games rehab in the afternoon before game days.
