The Braves have signed former Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen to a one year, $16 million deal.

Edit: add Nick Castellanos to @Bassomatic's Phillies on a five year, $100 million contract.

Edit 2: out of seemingly nowhere Carlos Correa has signed a three year deal worth $105.3 million with Minnesota.

I hate that Freddie's gone, but I think the Braves made the right decision to let him walk. This excerpt from an article on MLB Trade Rumors sums up my thoughts pretty well:

That doesn't bode well for the Dodgers, but I do hope Freddie can buck the trend and still play at a high level. Unless he's playing the Braves, then I hope he strikes out every at-bat.
I hope he gets popped in those goofy veneers he's got.

Looks like Freddie Freeman is indeed going to the Dodgers. Six years for $160 million. By comparison the extension Atlanta gave Matt Olson is for $168 million over eight seasons.
I gotta say as a Phillies fan anything bad happening to ATL is good, but reading Freddies IG post about moving was a I WAS CUTTING ONIONS DONT JUDGE ME MOMENT.

He's one of those guys who always kills it and is such a gentleman. I also kinda like the Giants so, I can't wish him well... yet lol.

I think Nick is a worthwhile pick up, but really our pen failed more than closers. Honestly if you factor out how badly the open was Phillies pushed hard, would have been top if not first month really. Also I hate to sound fan boy because the numbers don't lie but a little short where we hoped but Bryce did well not what we pay him but wasn't the flop ESPN wanted to call him.

edit: posted in my Iron pigs hat, because I am such a nerd I like AAA.

Nothing better than baseball on a warm Saturday afternoon, windows open with the breeze coming in. Except maybe being there.

Amen. I don't know where you all are from or what clubs you're a fan of, but sitting in Fenway when it's 60 or so degrees at dusk... magical.

I pity those who think baseball is a boring sport because of what they see on tv. I always tell them that seeing it on tv and being there in person are two completely different experiences. Even when your ball club loses it's still a great time. Only downside is when one of the games you chose to go to was when the Dodgers came to town and you saw more Mexicans from California alone than you saw in your entire life living in Massachusetts.

This could be applied to most sports probably, but I only watch baseball so I'm talking about baseball.

Am I the only person that hates listening to athlete interviews?
99% of these guys have no charisma or personality and most of the time the interview consists entirely of vague sports cliches like "We played hard out there and didn't give up." On top of that they all speak in the same monotone cadence. Every once in a while you get a guy that's interesting to listen to but it's extremely rare.

I often feel the same way, especially a sport like baseball where a decent chunk of the athletes don't speak great english. Football stars tend to give better interviews I think. They're just more lively and tend to be native english speakers.

We might give to Yankee star Aaron Judge some kudos for his stance about the vaccine.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Yankees star Aaron Judge refused to directly answer a question about his vaccine status Tuesday amid a requirement in New York City that requires every private sector employee be inoculated against the coronavirus.

“I’m still focused on just getting to the first game of spring training,” Judge said from the team's Florida training complex. “So I think we’ll cross that bridge after the time comes. But right now, so many things could change. So I’m not really too worried about that right now.”

Just like Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving, unvaccinated players on the Yankees and Mets will not be allowed to suit up at home due to the city's private employer mandate that went into effect Dec. 27.

The employer mandate is the same across the board, whether it’s a sports team playing indoors or outdoors. A city hall official who was not authorized to speak on the record noted that the start of the season is a month away, too far out to make a determination about what will happen then as the city continues to monitor COVID-19 cases.

The Yankees said in a statement that team president Randy Levine was “working with city hall and all other appropriate officials on this matter.”

“We will have no further comment,” the team added.

The Yankees open their season at home against the rival Boston Red Sox on April 7.

Why is Dumbrowski still paying for power bats when it's the pitching that's been the problem the last couple years?

The ghost runner on second in extra innings lives again.
The automatic runner on second base in extra innings -- also implemented in an effort to prevent the over-usage patterns that typically portend pitcher injuries -- is currently planned for only the 2022 regular season, making this the third consecutive year it is in play.

Albert Pujols is going to end his career back in St. Louis. He's signed a 1 year deal to return to the Cardinals and he's said that he plans to retire after the 2022 season. It's going to be neat seeing him, Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright all finishing their careers together after this season.

Good for Pujols and the Cardinals. Contract made easier with the new NL DH.

White Sox traded Craig Kimbrel to the Dodgers for AJ Pollock yesterday.

Albert Pujols has just terminally fucked himself in St. Louis. Dude couldn't even wait until his wife recovered from brain surgery. This is the Midwest, and lots of people there will take a rather dim view of the timing of the divorce. He didn't leave St. Louis on the best of terms years ago, either. Will be interesting to see the reception he gets tomorrow evening. Albert can go bite my ass.

Looked like I was wrong re the fans' reaction to Albert. Like good St. Louis sheeple, they cheered at his first appearance. Albert came through with an 0 for 5 night at the plate.

Heads up boomers: if you or a loved one has T-mobile you can get a free 1 year MLB.tv subscription. Normally I wouldn't care but the pirated streams this year are fucked (switching to radio audio track breaks every half inning). I wouldn't even watch this shit if I had to suffer through TV broadcasts.
John Sterling is bad enough to listen to without commercials.

I'll give you a John Sterling home run call for that comment: Blah blah blah does the cha cha cha, he hit that comment all the way to Panama! 6-7-8 devastates, assasinates, obliterates, DEFECATES! The guy with the Darksydephil avatar goes yard! Hits it to Myanmar! He's a superstar! IT'S HIGH.... IT'S FAR.... IT'S...caught by the first baseman in the infield.
