I post this because Lewis was the 1st overall pick in 2017 and Mize was the 1st overall pick in 2018. The Orioles and prized catching prospect Adley Rutschman are probably sweating bullets right now. Speaking of prized catching prospects, Gabriel Moreno (ranked as the #4 prospect in the game according to MLB.com) of the Blue Jays should be making his MLB debut this weekend in Detroit.

Damn, isn't this Royce Lewis' second major injury already too? They just can't catch a break with keeping their major draft picks healthy.
I almost expect every highly touted pitching prospect to get Tommy John at this point in time, honestly, especially with all the torque these guys put on their elbows nowadays.

Braves on a tasty 9 game win streak, thank fuck. They've had a month of sub-par opposition, so I'm glad they're winning games and series that they're expected to win at least. Just got to get some wins against the Mets now because I'm not very hopeful if it comes down to a Wild Card spot.
 
Jared Walsh of the Angels became the third player to hit for the cycle this season in an 11-4 win over the Mets at home last night; it came nearly three years to the day when Shohei Ohtani did it against the Rays on June 13th, 2019 and it comes just 5 days after the Mets' Eduardo Escobar hit for the cycle. LA has won 2 out of their last 3 games after a 14 game losing streak.

In addition, I noticed that for whatever reason recent cycles have been dominated by lefties and switch hitters. Since the start of 2018 there have been 18 cycles and only 3 of them were by hitters who exclusively hit as righties; the first was by Mookie Betts, the other two were by Trea Turner. 12 (3 by Christian Yelich alone) of them were by players who exclusively hit as lefties.

Meanwhile between the 2013 to 2017 seasons there were 18 cycles in total and those were dominated by righty hitters who did it 13 times while lefty only hitters made up the other 5 cycles. No one in that span had multiple cycles.

Cycles by league have been right down the middle overall during these ranges: 10-8 for the AL during 2013-17, and then 10-8 for the NL from 2018-present.

I also thought that everyone here would appreciate this. :story:

This really made my day, esp since the phillies got RAPED today. Over all I'm still pumped for them.

I really can't get over Judge he's so freaking monster. New guy Stott phillies picked up seems to be straight fire. I gotta listen to some of the game (where they got SLAUGHTERED 13-1) but I get super autismo and hearing it on radio just makes me happy.
 
Some neat history was made today: Luis Garcia and Phil Maton each threw an immaculate inning in the same game for the same team (Houston.) That's the first time in MLB history that it's ever happened and it's also the same time that two immaculate innings were thrown on the same day just in general.

To make it even more special, they each did it against the same three batters for the Texas Rangers (Nate Lowe, Ezequiel Duran, and Brad Miller.) Garcia did it in the 2nd inning while Maton did it in the 7th.

The sheer statistical anomoly of this is incomprehensible. We're more likely to win the lottery than witness such a feat ever again.
Its already 3x more likely to see a no-hitter than just one immaculate inning. For there to be two on the same day, let alone on the same team, in the same game, against the same three batters, from two different pitchers; just transcends the concept of "rare" entirely.
 
A couple of weeks back, I caught the first Isotopes game where they used electronic balls and strikes. They've had the pitch clock at AAA for at least the past two years, so the robot strike zone didn't noticeably speed the game up. That being said, there was zero bitching about the zone from either dugout the whole contest, so that was kinda cool.

Astros followed up their double immaculate game with a blowout against the White Sox, including a 10 run 6th. This is what our Offense should be doing regularly. If we were only more consistent we'd have just was many wins as the Yanks. Hopefully this is an indication of the offense coming alive.

The fucking cocksucker NY fans are cheering while he just lays there and it turns into a triple. Then they want to get somber and give him a standing O as he is CARTED off the field.

I hate Yankee homestands at the Trop. If I wanted to go to Yankee Stadium I would. Then these cocksuckers come here and fuck up this state.

That's a name I hadn't thought of in a couple of years. He was a pretty solid reliever (and pretty intimidating at times) there for those who may not remember; really had a great fastball. In one of the replies on that thread you posted he claims he's still hitting 87-88mph with it eight years after retiring which I could certainly believe.

Dude had a transaction page a mile long. Outside of his first six seasons (all with the Cubs) he never lasted more than about two and a half seasons with the same team (once each with the Yankees and Rays) and was with 8 teams in his ten seasons after leaving the Cubs.
