I've said this before, but Cleveland's new name really sucks. I can't believe they couldn't have taken the time to pick a better one. It's been multiple years now, and it still sucks.

I didn't even know what "Guardians" was referring to. And I'd been to Cleveland before.

I don't love it, but I'm trying to get used to it. I'm not one of those people who throws a psychotic fit whenever they hear the name.

I mean, there's a lot of things I would associate with Cleveland before...this. I assume the Cleveland River Fires, the Cleveland Smack Fiends, or the Cleveland Steamers would never make the cut, though.

The tides are turning back against virtue signaling, but we're not likely to ever see the Redskins or Chief Wahoo come back because name changes usually stick no matter if they were changed to appease the then-current political climate or not. North Dakota still hasn't gone back to the Fighting Sioux even though the Sioux tribes in that state gave them the thumbs up.

Jake Burger has been so bad he's literally getting sent down and replaced with a guy I've never heard of. Joc Pederson is like 1 for 50-something now.
The Nathaniel Lowe trade will go down as the worst trade for DFW's sports of all time.

With Cleveland specifically I haven't noticed it too much since all of my life I have been calling their sports teams just "Cleveland". I just like saying Cleveland it rolls off the tongue nice.

There's a big ol' (Doubt) on that one, buddy.

...Hey, at least Josh Smith is good, and Dustin Harris looks like he might be the future! How about we bench them and trot out the corpse of Nick Ahmed (who just got DFA'd)?

Leody Taveras is about to be put out of his misery 2 years too late.

My theory is it was picked so they could quickly pull a few letters off of uniforms and scoreboards and paint over signs cheaply.

Insane game between the Diamondbacks and the Dodgers.

If you score 8 runs and can't hold that lead then you deserve to lose. What were the odds on giving up Grand Slams on 2 consecutive nights ?

Roki continues to look mediocre with his control issues. No one seems to respect his fastball and that's going to be an issue throughout the season.

Going into the 9th inning, I just wanted to have a chance at potentially getting to the top of the order. Tremendous at-bats from Freeman, Pages and Kike. Muncy finally came through with a big hit. Great baserunning as well from a group of guys who aren't exactly burners on the base paths.

I was praying for Conforto to not fuck it up like he has been all season with some grounding into a double play faggotry. Thankfully, he took the painful way to getting on first base, which brought up the reincarnation of the Bambino himself to the plate.

I've been reading that Ohtani's stats in high leverage situations have been straight up video game tier this season. Well, he certainly didn't disappoint with that absolutely no doubt blast into the night sky. I've said it before and I'll say it again: it will truly take us decades to entirely fathom the enormity of his many achievements.

I'm obviously extremely biased, and as much as I think LA should be nuked for the sake of the human species, I'm thankful that I get to witness Ohtani as his incredible career unfolds in real time.

I have the highest possible admiration for Babe Ruth. No one will ever eclipse just how dominant he was at this game. The greatest honor that a Baseball player can have is to be be mentioned in the same breath as Ruth, which I think Shohei deservedly is.

Friday's attendance: 31,564

2024 Friday game attendance (July 5): 34,493
2023 Friday game attendance (July 21): 42,352

The test will be on Saturday. Last year, it was 38,264. The year before, it was 44,921.

The entire Blue Jays sphere (well the online fanbase at least, not the broadcast or beat reporters that I've heard) is wishcasting that no West Coast fans from British Columbia will cross the border to go watch Toronto's lone away series in Seattle this weekend. Because they've been advocating for months for a boycott and labeling anyone who crosses as a MAGA traitor.

Archived Global News piece about the fake drama. The reporter was in the Jays reddit the other day soliciting quotes, lol.

Seattle is still trying to entice Canadians with a local initiative that includes more than 35 Seattle hotels and restaurants taking the Canadian dollar at par with the U.S.

That's a pretty sweet deal for those Canucks heading south as the loonie was worth 72 cents US last time I checked.

I saw an unironic comment the other day worried that visiting Canucks could arbitrarily get arrested & sent to El Salvador.

I watched some of the broadcast last night. The cheaper baseline outfield seats were mostly empty but there was still a noticeable dark blue Blue Jay tint to the crowd.

The Friday numbers were down a bit, but it's also a mid-May series with school still in session and colder weather rather than a July or August series like in years past.

The Jays even managed to run up a 5-0 lead after 3 last night then hold on for a 6-3 victory after Yimi Garcia walked the bases loaded with no one out in the bottom of the 8th but somehow managed to escape unscathed. The Jays closer Hoffman melted down twice earlier in the week against the pitiful Angels and Garcia himself gave up a 9th inning grand slam against Cleveland last weekend to lose another.

I hope the Sat & Sun games are well attended just to stick it to the braying "Boycott Orange Man Bad" types as they sit at home on Reddit still consuming their Burger sportsball.

Honestly, as far as I could tell Seattle fans HATE this series because they get invaded by all the Jays fans, so maybe the Liberals of Seattle have a small reason to like Donald Trump, if not only for 3 days.

The Rockies have hit a new low, and they're a team that only has 6 wins with approximately a quarter of the season now behind them.

San Diego beat them 21-0. It's the biggest shutout win since Cleveland beat the Yankees 22-0 back in 2004.

Edit, update: the Rockies won today to move to a 7-33 record. They then fired their manager, Bud Black.

I've never heard of most of the Rockies roster looking them up on Baseball Reference (except Kris Bryant, Ryan McMahon & German Marquez).

Their best player is a 29 y/o setup guy called Jake Bird I've never heard of.
