This isn't enough of a hill for me to die on so I'll drop it, but if he doesn't get voted in just compare his runs, and RBIs to Will Clark. He had nearly a decade longer career and only had 900 more runs and 100 something more RBI's on 2000+ more hits than Will and Will didn't get in.

Back before Baseball Think Factory was shut down, there were decades of HoF discussion in the forums (and discussions about WAR calculations) about Compilers vs Peak players.

There's actually some attempts to reflect the Compiler vs Peak debate on each players BBRef page through their JAWS system showing each player's peak 7 years and how they compare to other HoF at their position.

The metrics on BBRef clearly have Rose as a HoF, ranked the 5th best LF of all time, ahead of guys like Manny Ramirez, Tim Raines & Willie Stargell (though the field is a little weak)

It's pretty impressive that Rose had a Cal-Ripkenesque run essentially not missing any time between the ages of 24 & 42. There's definitely value to being durable/available day-in, day-out. The bWAR calculation at least attempts to reward that fact by awarding value simply for reps & showing up so that a replacement player isn't needed.

Not even God Himself could save the White Sox. I do appreciate that the new Pope is a Real Ball Knower, though.
it's fitting he's a white sox fan. It'd be awkward for the pope to be a cubs fan since it would mean he's 100% said "fuck the cardinals." at one point in his life.

I will trust any stat set that insures that I never again have to get into a "Kirby Puckett doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame" argument again.

Every time I visit my relatives in the south it becomes a heated discussion. To them he's just "that guy from game 6 against the Braves in 91", but I remember him as the 5 foot 8 butterball tearing it up in the American League from the mid 80s to the mid 90s. When I had to move for college one of my biggest regrets was losing easy access to seeing the Twins play. I had to make do and suffer unless they were: Playing the White Sox on WGN (which is why I'm sure that Hawk Harrelson is proof that if god does exist he hates us), the rare ESPN game, or if they were in the playoffs.

Looking at all of the hyperventilating by New York sports media about Juan Soto being a stereotypical no hustling spic nigger is rather hilarious.

Gee, it's almost like giving a guy with a history of lackadaisical play an obscenely bloated contract wasn't exactly the best cure for said laziness and immaturity.

I'm so glad that Cohen, Mets higher ups and Mets fans are basically on suicide watch thinking about how they signed up for this shit for the next 15 years.

Hardy har har har.

Why were Yankees so butthurt over losing a 1 season player? He's no Ohtani.

Yankees announcer Michael Kay has some claims about Soto
Kay claimed that Soto wanted to remain with the Yankees, but his family pushed him to sign with the Mets because they felt comfortable around owners Steve and Alex Cohen.

“Why isn’t he happy? It comes down to this. I’ll say it now, and it will be denied. Of course, it has to be denied. But I have talked to people that I respect. He wanted to return to the Yankees. That was his preference,” Kay said.

“His family said, ‘You are going to the Mets.’ His family felt very comfortable around Alex and Steve Cohen. And they said, ‘You are going to the Mets.’ And he is a guy that listens to his family. So I think at this point, he is probably a bit down, pouting a bit. And then to come into Yankee Stadium with three straight sellout crowds, at a place that was his Field of Dreams. It became his Field of Nightmares over the weekend.”

That's some interesting gossip.

Why would your family put so much emphasis on liking the owner?

Is it simply about "vibes"?
Is it about an owner willing to spend money & committing to winning for the long term?
Is it more concern about the clubhouse perks & general culture about how players are treated behind the scenes by staff?

Winning or not, the family knows Soto gets paid either way.

If I had to guess, Michael Kay or someone close to him is literally just lying, or when they say they "liked the owner," they're actually just being greedy and liked that he has more money to spend, which can trickle down to them. A point of contention was that the Mets offered Juan Soto a season-long box suite, and the Yankees didn't. That sounds exactly like something being pushed for by the family so who knows what else they pushed for. Obviously Soto was going to make more than he deserves with the Yankees too, but the family isn't the one on the field, so why would they ever want less money. I'm sure the parents and girlfriend of the Dominican "19-year-old" turned superstar baseball player are VERY responsible with, and indifferent to, money.

Fellow spic nigger Pedro Martinez was out there gunt guarding for Soto. His principal assertions are as follows:

"Nobody gave Ohtani shit for making nearly basically the same money as Soto !"

"Has anyone considered that there could be something personal going on with him ?!"

Fuck off with all of this shit.

Ohtani deferred $680 million. Ohtani is the most recognized athlete in the world and a cottage industry onto himself given how much money the Dodgers (and Angels before them) are printing. Ohtani's out here playing through injuries, hustling on every play and being a great team-mate to all of his guys. He's even pouring drinks for motherfuckers and cleaning trash in there. Of course niggers like Martinez won't look at those fine details.

I don't give a fuck if Soto has "personal" shit. You're a professional athlete with a guaranteed contract that in reality is worth closer to $850 million if you look at all of the perks. We've seen professional athletes over the years who have played and performed through all kinds of horrific personal tragedies that added to their legend.

I watched Jordan win a chip after his Dad had been murdered. Ronnie Lott had a finger digit cut off so he could go back in the game. Lawrence Taylor playing through a shoulder dislocation. Terrell Owens playing in the Super Bowl on a broken ankle.

Even fucking Ohtani had to deal with $40 million being stolen from him by his best friend and relentless attacks from the National media. Tom Brady having to deal with his bitch fucking the motherfucking jiu jutsu trainer and divorce proceedings in the middle of the season.

The list goes on and on so lose me with that "personal problems" shit.

Suffer spic nigger. This is the reality that you chose. Get ready for 15 years of vicious attacks from the New York sports media and Mets fans.

Pretty wild the Rockies have never won the NL West in their entire franchise history.

I mean, the Dodgers have turned into more of a George Steinbrenner Evil Empire than the actual Yankees over the last decade. But I would've assumed Colorado would've fluked their way to a Division title once in between expansion & the Giants & the Dodgers becoming dynasties.

The Rockies should go back to their 1990s meme edition with Dante Bichette, Vinny Castilla, Eliis Burks, Larry Walker, Todd Helton types. If you have a meme stadium and stink, you might as well min/max the home field buffs.

I have 2 principal gripes with MLB.com.

Firstly, these motherfuckers are neurotic about VPN's and make it impossible to even access the site if you're using one. Having to turn my VPN on and off every time becomes annoying.

Secondly, you spend all this money on buying the fucking package and then it turns out that for certain games I also have to buy some faggot ass Apple TV subscription shit ?

There are rumors this week that both NBC & Apple TV are both putting in low ball bids to buy the Sunday Night Baseball package that ESPN dropped out of for next year (ESPN was paying something like 185 mil/yr for the exclusive rights to a Sunday night game & All Star Weekend.)

It's not clear if NBC plans to keep Sunday Night Baseball over the air or stream it exclusively on Peacock.

If Apple TV gets the Sunday Night exclusive game, it will be annoying for big market fans like the Yankees, Red Sox & Cardinals that play it every other week.

I mean it's really easy to sail the seven seas and plug a laptop into your TV. I pretty much haven't missed a single game from almost any sport in like 10 years because of coverage BS.

The Marlins have never won the NL East, and have two rings to show for it.

I wonder which contract is gonna age worse, Soto? Or Vlad Jr's?

I know it's early in the season, but are the Tigers a really solid team in a terrible division or are they just good this year?

As far as Juan Soto...I hope the Mets are happy with Bobby Bonilla 2.0. They still haven't finished paying Bobby, but I think that is caught up in the Wilpons being the Wilpons.

Tarik Skubal is a monster, the rest of their rotation is hit or miss (their new free agent signing Jack Flaherty seems to be doing medicore). Their hitting core is surprisingly good especially with Javy 'I'll swing at anything in the same area code as me' Baez catching fire now that he's been moved from SS/3B to center field of all places. Seems like the same story as last year except for Javy Baez not being an offensive liability

I thought the Yanks were idiots for even offering him anything but they dodged a huge bullet.

Agreed. Why boo the guy that did help you for a year? It's not like you don't know how it works now.
