I saw this clip about the 1994 strike. Some think that scenario might happen again.

If the millionaires players are still not happy on what the billionaires owners give to them. They should create their own league just for the fun to see how these players will feel when the shoe is in the other foot.

NOPE. Most of these players suck, and the ones that don't are saddled with ludicrous contracts. The Mets will be too cheap to retain salary. We have great young rookies but no point in moving them. Add on top of that Stearns trying to cover his ass with the bums he brought in and basically nobody is moving.

I believe the Mets AT MOST will move 2 players. A pitcher and maybe Alvarez, that's it

Most of this laughably bad roster will be back next year. Bully the shit out of them with your gambling, sports fans
As limited as Luisangel Acuña is, the White Sox are winning the Luis Robert Jr trade.

In 31 games played this season for the Pittsburgh Pirates, rookie Esmerlyn Valdez has

105 at bats
12 home runs
32 hits
20 extra-base hits
32 runs batted in
.373 OBP
.733 SLG
1.106 OPS

Averaging 1 RBI per hit

There's no way this is sustainable (or is there? lol) but those are some crazy stats

Coming into today he's striking out in over 37% of his at bats and has a .400 average on balls in play. It's even more extreme than what Aristides Aquino did for the Reds years ago in his first ~month's worth of games and people were fantasizing that he was going to be the next Aaron Judge out of thin air. Valdez will be a legitimate Major Leaguer though unlike Aquino, I think.

I'm definitely biased as a Jays fan but I think Dylan Cease has a shot for it.

I rest my case.

Interestingly, if Cease manages to win the AL Cy Young Award this season he'll keep up a Blue Jays tradition of winning the award despite the team missing the playoffs. Pat Hentgen won it in 1996 and was followed by Roger Clemens who won back-to-back in 1997/98. Roy Halladay won in 2003, and Robbie Ray won it in 2021.

If Cam Schlittler of the Yankees wins, an interesting thing to note is that of the six Yankee winners to date, all of those teams made it to the World Series (winning in 1958, 1961, 1977 and 1978 while Clemens' team lost in 2001) in those seasons except for Gerrit Cole's 2023 team that missed the playoffs.

I've watched a handful of Angels games this year because they are usually on late and they are playing teams that I want to lose (More competitive divisional opponents or teams competing with the Rangers in the wild card) and every single time I've watched they fucking lose, usually in heartbreaking fashion, and yesterday of course was no exception. It's gotten to the point where it feels like there is some cosmic force or grand conspiracy to always have them lose when I'm watching, what a joke of an organization. I don't know how anybody can watch them for a whole season.

The cosmic force ruining them is called Arte Moreno, who consistently sells out the longer term growth of the team for short term ticket sales. They had a crumb of a hope when they got Ohtani and they got the best years of him. What'd they do with it? Resign him? Trade him for a haul?

NOPE, they kept him, for one more season of ticket and jersey sales so he could just walk off to the Dodgers. The Angels are run like absolute trash, and that goes to Moreno because he meddles and is clueless. They have/had the pieces and the potential, they certainly had the money. All of it was squandered by the miserable owner.

As soon as Mike Trout retires I am done with the Angels forever. I have no doubt they will completely botch that up as well.

What happens when there's no season next year? Does the sport die?
No way that they will strike or sit out a season. The gambling and media money drives the sport now not the actual players. The players have no leverage anymore. The owners are using MLB as a giant real estate and media company. They are far more powerful than the players and most owners don't even care about putting out a competitive team. They are a new breed of owners who want a percentage of media and gambling rights for owning a team and will never bother spending to field a team that might make the playoffs.
Do.minor league teams fold?
MLB already closed 40 Minor League Baseball teams in the last few years. And are looking to close even more. They sold the entire Minor League Baseball operation to some private equity company that is gutting the entire farm system. Supposedly they want to go down to just 1 or 2 farm teams for each MLB team and just outsource the entire development program to colleges (meaning no more drafting high school or amateur players).

I think it is going to happen simply because even if the players don't have as much leverage as they used to, they are desperate enough to take a stand in order to gain some of it back. It doesn't help that fans will more than likely side with the players over the owners. It is definitely going to make for an interesting confrontation no matter what happens.

Personally... I don't really care. I don't care about rich athletes who want to get even more money when they are already making millions more than I will ever see in my lifetime. When I have to spend hundreds of dollars just to go to a game I lose interest in whatever your grievances are.

Last strike they cancelled series by series instead of saying we are cancelling x number of weeks, so you only knew what was happening 3 days in advance. Made it impossible to plan trips to games.
