As someone born and raised in Chicago there is definitely a class divide between the Cubs and White Sox. The Cubs are associated with the wealthier north side, with Wrigleyville being turned into a little Nashville clone. The White Sox are associated with the working class south side. Liking the White Sox is seen, by some, as being more "authentically" Chicago, whereas liking the Cubs is for Barstool transplants. I think if there was a Cubs-White Sox World Series there would be a lot of people framing it as a battle between "real" Chicago (White Sox) vs fake yuppie transplant Chicago (Cubs). This Bill Burr rant reflects the attitude a lot of people have toward Cubs fans. It's 11 years old but it still resonates today. Is there really even that much animosity between the Cubs and White Sox or their respective fanbases? Both the Cubs and White Sox however have almost the same exact history: marred by struggles and misfortune before finally overcoming their long title droughts during a cinderella run.
I feel like Chicago fans would just be happy that both teams managed to accomplish something and that the spotlight was back on the City of Chicago for a change.
There was actually a brawl in the bleachers during this year's Crosstown Classic, but Cubs-White Sox games have gotten violent before
