Al-Jazeera:

Opposition declares Damascus ‘free of tyrant al-Assad’

  • Syria’s armed opposition says they have captured the capital, Damascus, and that President Bashar al-Assad has fled the country.
  • The announcement comes after rebels seized the city of Homs in a lightning offensive hours earlier.
  • The commander of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, Abu Mohammed al-Julani, says the government’s collapse is near and promises to protect people in areas the group controls.
  • Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Russia issue a joint statement saying the crisis is a “dangerous development” and calling for a political solution.

Syrian opposition suggests it will not seek revenge

The armed opposition says the “new Syria” will be a place of “peaceful coexistence”, where justice would prevail and all Syrians’ dignity would be preserved.
“We turn the page on the dark past and open a new horizon for the future,” the rebels said in a statement.
Opposition leaders, including HTS chief al-Julani, have stressed in recent weeks that they aim to build a state for all Syrians in an effort to dispel concerns about sectarianism and the group’s previous ties to al-Qaeda.

Syrian PM says he remains in his home in Damascus

Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali says he does not plan on leaving his home as he aims to ensure that public institutions continue to function.
“I urge all to think rationally and to think about they country,” al-Jalali said. “We extend our hand to the opposition who have extended their hand and asserted that they will not harm anyone who belongs to this country.”
He also called on citizens to protect public property.
The Middle East has seen chaos with the fall of governments in the past. When invading American forces toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in 2003, state agencies and public sites were looted as anarchy prevailed.

Celebrations in Damascus

The Reuters news agency, citing witnesses, is reporting that thousands of people in cars and on foot are congregating in central Damascus, chanting, “Freedom!”
Videos posted online, verified by Al Jazeera, show several people in the Ummayad Square, standing on an abandoned military tank and singing in celebration.

FOX News notes:
Trump urges US to stay out of Syrian civil war, blaming Obama for failure as Islamists close in on capital

Trump warned on the social media platform Truth Social: "Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!"

Maybe it's time for mid east Christian groups to stop being pansies for the nth century in a row and actually fight back for once?
They tried to do that during WW1 and the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, but got fucked over by a combination of British and French colonial ambitions preventing the Assyrians from forming and independent state and Ataturk's victory over the Greeks preventing the formation of either an independent Armenian state and extinguishing the millenia old Greek communities in coastal Anatolia. Since then they've never really been a position to try anything outside of Lebanon, and even there they quickly got reduced from a majority to a minority by Muslim refugees pushed out of Israel. And there were actually explicitly Christian sectarian groups during the Lebanese Civil War, they just couldn't secure the outside backing other groups could and didn't achieve their goals.

Israel is already moving to reoccupy the demilitarised zone in the Golan Heights.

And then you had a bunch of Jews building a modern country on a patch of desert.

So I wonder who enabled this to happen. Biden and co? Turkey? Israel? Israel with Biden and co? I'm sure Tehran is pissed as hell one of their few remaining allies on that side of the sandbox is gone.

Israel eliminated Hizbollah, and Ukraine neutralised Russia. Hizbollah and Russia were crucial in tipping the balance of power in favour of the regime in the civil war. Without them the regime simply collapsed.

Well goddamn. I spent a good chunk of time of there in the mid 2000's and it was standard mideast dumpy except for Homs and there's a reason for that, which I never mentioned because I like not being in a mideast jail. People were pretty nice to my white ass, either out of curiosity or fear, idk, but once i was away from the coast and into the hinterlands the reception was much more genuine. Just regular ass people who were sick of that shit and wanted to live their lives without the threat of disappearing one day.

Never thought I'd see the day this happened. Not optimistic of what comes next just because there's a pretty good post 9/11 record of things getting worse.

Why would Israel want a stable Syria? A divided, war ravaged Syria can't threaten them.
I wonder if a stable Syria that has signed a “peace treaty” with Israel and has acknowledged Israel’s right to exist AND possession of Golan….would be in Israel’s interests..? Many would say “never gonna happen”…

… and then they all moved to Australia…

Take this information from a grain of salt, I can't provide source for this as it's someone local whose identity I don't want to involve in anything.

While Assad fled, a syrian plane landed in Budapest.

This is just a rumor, but TEK is the elite goverment death squads. If it was just some random syrians, why would they go there?

Can be Assad, other high ranking syrians, Assad's family members, or even evacuated Russian VIP. The Hungarian goverment denies it.

Can be any VIP. Could be even Mossad agents fleeing the crime scene, as Orbán is one of Bibi's best friends.

At least he escaped. Dude just wanted to be a Dr. he wasn't even meant to be the next dictator. They'll probably assassinate him at some point just to prove that you can in fact mossad the Assad :'(

Israel is already moving to reoccupy the demilitarised zone in the Golan Heights.
Greater Israel coming in nicely toobz...

Assad will live a peaceful life and die of old age with his family in Russia, Assad antis must be incredibly butt hurt right now

They are really pissed off that they didn't get their photo op of having Assad being a bloody corpse being paraded around like Gaddafi or being hung upside down like Mussolini.
