$ (BAT) Basic Attention Token

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Seems there is no way to chip in real money to buy these tokens, unless I missed something, but as soon as get some I'll happily send some @Null's way.

Coinbase has a program called Coinbase earn where you're able to get $10 in free currency for watching a couple minutes worth of videos and answering some stupidly easy quiz, and appears to let you purchase it as well. If you have other cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Litecoin), you can perform a one-way transfer into a browser based wallet that automatically converts the other crypto into BAT. Brave also occasionally gives out random allocations to users, seemingly after updates to the browser.

I only have personal experience with receiving the funds from the Brave browser itself and the Coinbase earn program. With coinbase earn, I had to sign up for an account which included verifying my ID to send the tokens from Coinbase to my Brave wallet, and it took approximately 45 minutes to an hour to show in my balance.

  1. In your Rewards Settings panel, turn on "Auto-Contribute" to automatically donate to multiple sites based on screentime View attachment 735827

To anyone who turns on auto-contribute, I would recommend clicking the settings on that rewards page and at the very minimum disabling "Allow contribution to non-verified sites". If you don't do that or adjust the minimum page time and page visits, Brave will attempt to auto-contribute to sites you visit whether they're verified or not. I believe they hold the contribution for a certain amount of time and then return it to you if the owner of the site hasn't enabled the ability to receive rewards, but why send it to a random holding account in the first place? You also can go into settings and manually delete sites you don't want to contribute to after you view them, but depending on your web browsing history that may be quite a few to go through.

Supposedly you can buy it on Uphold and move to your Rewards wallet, but I haven't tried. (Or I guess send to Uphold from another exchange/wallet and then move over)

BAT has a BAT/BTC trading pair on Binance, it's where I get my BAT. You have to KYC wilth Uphold.

I like the idea of BAT but would rather not have to change browsers to use it. I'm perfectly happy with my pleb Safari.

I wonder if the Brave people would be interested in developing or supporting browser plug-ins for other browsers which would allow people to support sites with BAT in a similar manner to Brave. Though perhaps they wouldn't since that would make Brave itself redundant.

For those who have Brave, seems the ads functionality of getting BAT for viewing Brave compliant ones has hit the Windows version as well as the Linux version, make sure to turn it on so you can start gaining BAT.

I’m still a little confused on how all this works. It says it will notify me of ads, right? So there’s nothing I can do to say “Just show me like 20 minutes of ads right now, please”?

Are these notifications easy to miss? I’m a little slow-in-the-mind when it comes to new tech, sorry.

A bar will pop down from the top of the browser that you click. It's plenty noticeable but not intrusive. You click the bar and it will open a new tab with whatever advertised site, which you can just close and go right back to what you were doing. Also note to go into your Rewards settings and set "ads per hour" to max of 5. [ETA: since installing Brave on a Windows machine, it looks like a little ad tab will pop up in the lower right that you have to click for the Windows version]

Also a note to new Brave users: it's ad-blocker is pretty aggressive, to the point of some sites not functioning properly. If you have issues on a site, click the Brave icon on the address bar and turn off the Shield blocking for that site and see if it works.

Op top of an ad notification, you hear a little notification sound if your speakers or headphone is plugged in.

I found you don't even really have visit the ads per se, just click on the notification to acknowledge you got it and there you go.

It only works on sites that Brave is registered with, like archive.org or this one.

Also, even if you set up to five ads an hour, you will be gaining BAT very slowly, but it's meant to build up over time with regular use, and whatever funds you earn in BAT will be deposited for your personal use on the 5th of every month.

If you are doing this and not buying bitcoin to exchange for BAT to speed up the process, just wait till you have some BAT to spend, then make a donation to the Farms depending on how much you can donate.

I think I'll pull about $15 in ad clicks this month.

Thank you, @Particle Bored

I already got 2 whole cents! Wooo!
BAT's not doing too bad on the exchanges. When I started it was only about a penny a click.

Alright, got the browser, all set up. Liking that it's got a sexy dark theme to match the Farms.

Whatever I end up earning from it is getting funneled straight into KF.

I'd love to contribute but ads aren't available yet in my region and I don't understand cryptostuff as I'm a n00b. As soon as ads are available in my region I'll let them roll KF's way

Good news for those with ads available in your region on Brave:

Even if you are not on a BAT registered site like the Farms, it's still possible to get an ad popup from Brave themselves if you allow ads. They don't show up half as often as on sites whitelisted for BAT ads, but they do occur on occasion.

It would be cool if BAT works out. Whether it is a workable model for sustainably supporting websites you enjoy in the long run- only Allah knows.

In the meantime, I would suggest that Brave is the only regular browser that you should be using, anyway.

You aren't actually using a really secure browser like Links2 anyway, you dickless faggots. You don't actually need to use Tor Browser for most of your activities. Ditch Chrome, Safari, Opera, and all that other shitware for Brave, and make Null some mindcoins he can convert into another mindcoin that holds its value like Stablecoin.

It will be interesting to see how much gets dropped on Null on the 5th. I'm up to 3.5 BAT already and I don't even spend that much time with it. Even if every user ( :optimistic:) just sent one token, that's still a pretty good amount, and I suspect there will be quite a few who send in their entire stack.
