Will it mayhaps be like C&C Remastered in terms of quality, or is it gonna be generic?
I mean it'll never happen anyway. DICE would rather forget about its old games outside of a few token references to 1942 and that one DLC for BF4.

And I'm sure they wouldn't want to make a game that required actual teamplay. Heaven help if you actually need a medic nearby to restore health and don't have unlimited ammo in vics.

Given that the next BF has a high chance of being shit based on their Specialist obsession, while the next CoD is guaranteed to be shit based on their non-military cosmetics obsession, it's a shame there's no 3rd group that can just make a good milsimlite and take control.

Battlebit is a fairly popular competitor. I'm personally not a fan of the maps or weapon balance but others seem to like it as an alternative.

And if you want a proper "milsim-lite" play Squad.

Criterion has confirmed that they are helping to work on the next Battlefield game. The fact that they're still trying to make the "Battlefield Universe" a thing, means that the next game will suck as hard as 2042 was.

And this person, which I don't know about, lays the smackdown in regards to the "Battlefield Universe" push in 2042:

Battlefield has only a handful of memorable characters. That Black guy from BF4, the rookie cop from Hardline and their whole Bad Company squad. EA is trying to compete with CoD's rebooted universe lore. They're going to kill their BF franchise if this keeps up.

The title of the next Season has been revealed, and more details about it will be shown next Tuesday:

Sad thing is that BFV aged better than initially received. As a Battlefield title and as a WW2 shooter.
Although it ended development incomplete, it was still alot better than on launch. I find it fun to play and it still feels like a Battlefield game, unlike 2042, where that feeling isn't there. They felt a need to innovate despite nothing being wrong with the formula, and that backfired hard. Oh well, it is what it is :(

Really feels like watching the franchises' slow death.

They seriously have no idea what to do with Battlefield, when literally all they had to do is keep doing what they were doing before BFV.
Yea, the series is as good as dead. The company needs to just pack it up before they do more embarrassing shit, but I'm sounding too optimistic as the publisher also done dirty with other big name franchise they own, such as Mass Effect, and especially the people who worked in various developing companies they own.

Honestly I passed on BFV given how silly the initial trailers made it look. Looking at it now it definitely looks less cartoony than the trailers made it out. I think my main problems with it are the changes they made to teamplay. It's less crucial to balance kits and play as a team if everyone can revive and anyone can just pick up health and ammo from their ass. It was also their first attempt at a BR IIRC (Firestorm mode or whatever). I guess in hindsight they've been watering the game down and chasing trends since Bad Company; but at least they were generally fun and made an attempt to be Battlefield titles.

I really don't want the series to die but on the other hand I don't want EA to keep raping it. I just kind of wish there was something else to fill the niche. CoD has its host of problems and I really didn't enjoy Battlebit that much.

They wanted the CoD audience so the changes made sense since nobody wanted to play as a team.
It's the same thing in BF2042, people spawn as support but don't heal or give ammo.

BF4 was the peak for that iteration (relatively speaking people, relatively), so just copy that and reskin some shit away to a new theme.

The bizarre thing about this game series is it perfectly placed to catch CoD fans who lapsed, CoD fans who wanted something a bit more than a straight-up arena shooter, and they kinda did it with the BFBC2 to BF4 run. They already did it, it was done, they scored the goal and should have just sat on their laurels for a while, soaking up the good will.

No shame in being an alternative to the big boy, not to mention you are perfectly placed to take swipes when the bog boy fucks up as they always do (it's Activision, just fucking wait a while, they always fuck up).

Mind you, EA is having all sorts of issues, so maybe BF becomes a talking point in youtube essays on the downfall of EA.
