The Patch 7.0.0 notes for BF2042 are out.

And Lehto is still whining about no longer being at DICE:

when he's out of a job why not fly to ukraine and get blown up for democracy going by his fucking flag?
A lot of social media hags, especially ones who work in the industry, will support the current thing just to act as they're "doing the right thing"

I know, I just like to poke at their retardation sometimes (but not enough to make a twitter account luckily).

It appears that DICE messed up the visual recoil on the guns with the most recent patch, to the point that it looks like your gun is twerking:

I really want to know how even the biggest of DICE defenders would dare to say that this is totally "working as intended" gameplay.

The next EA Play reward skin is this, uh thing that is a Boris skin:

This skin reminds me of Jamie Davis from the Canadian documentary series Highway Thru Hell:

Say what you want about it, at least he still looks like a soldier. Compare that to what COD is releasing, you got skins from Dune, you got fucking Snoop Dog for like the 5th time in a row, you got rainbow animated skins that make you stand out and get shot at, you got characters from Walking Dead and many other franchises, you got some nigger "celebs" I have never heard of, and you have stupid outfits for existing operators that completely ruin any artistic cohesion the game might have had. There is way too many crossovers for me to go over, but it is so much worse than even this parody of WW2 games as seen in this video, and indeed, even worse than COD Vanguard or BF5 have ever gotten
If 2042 hasn't fallen to the same aesthetics cancer as above, then count your lucky stars and be glad that your skins are merely boring. It could be a lot worse.
Speaking of which, I've seen a lot more people playing 2042 than I used to see, even if it seems to have fallen off(again) simply because COD and Halo Infinite is fucking garbage. How fucked is the FPS space when the bar is this low?

You can also add Overwatch 2 shitting the bed hard, and Counter-Strike 2 shitting the bed, but not as hard, to how low the FPS space bar is right now.

Yep, Season 7 is the last one and it gets worse: EA Motive has joined the other studios working on the next BF.

The sheer amount of studios working on the next BF game (DICE, Criterion, Ripple Effect, and now Motive Studios), literally screams at being another "too many cooks in the kitchen" situation that happened with BF2042.

True. In the blog post they talk about Motive being a talented studio... no way. They remade Dead Space 1 for "modern audiences" with all the poz that comes with it. They also made this fucking asset flip:

Welp, this is timely news, as I actually stopped playing 2042 right before the start of Season 7 because I figured there wasn't much time left before the next one. I didn't expect to be this accurate...

So, eulogy review on BF2042: It eventually was brought up to a passable standard for the launch edition of a Battlefield game, but didn't go much further beyond that. It lacks polish and atmosphere - Battlefield 1 looks better than 2042 and it was released 5 years earlier. The Specialist system is still an unnecessary restriction for character customisation, a fair chunk of the weapons are simply lifted from BF3/BC2, and I guess it's too....clean? It doesn't feel like a dirty, gritty warzone, but a polished canvas with doodads simulating a warzone. A sequel to this would be ill-advised. The story just has all these random factions doing things that I haven't even remotely paid attention to nor cared to keep track of.

If EA had any sense, they'd capitalise on ActiBlizz failing in the modern-era setting and make one that's more adherent, but it's EA so I expect a total fuckup and an over-emphasis on social politics and reused 2042 assets. The last two games were basically handed to them as, "Don't-do-the-retarded-thing-ActiBlizz-did", and they still managed to fail spectacularly.

None of them know their own audience anymore. They're chasing trends for short term monetization.

Remember that 2042 is supposed to take place in a climate destroyed Earth where countries supposedly cease to exist in practice. I refused to play 2042 in principle because it abandoned its intended tone and formula to chase the hero shooter trend.

I believe that EA wanted to appease the Chinese market by removing factions.

Don't the Chinks still require game developers to surrender their source code to them so they can make janky Chinese knockoffs to undermine their sales? I wouldn't want that, but I'm also not obsessed with infinite and unsustainable growth.

If I were EA, I'd be considering Battlefield very carefully since it's one of the few major IP associations they have that isn't sportsball. However, as history has taught me, they probably won't give it the attention and care that it deserves and all participating subsidiaries like Respawn and Motive can expect full disbandment and assimilation after this next failure.
