Battlefield General - Discuss the series here

You need weapon affiliations to NAME weapons by their real names? MWII had a similar issue with their gun names. Why is that a thing NOW?
Last I heard, they would need to pay licensing fees for doing so. I think it's a crock of shit since the games are basically free advertising for guns, but that's apparently the reasoning for it.

It was always like that. The only reason they refuse to get the rights from the manufacturers is because of [current year] politics. Some of these devs and directors hate guns despite working on a war game.
Last month for example, people found out that one of the producers at 343i is actually scared of guns and yet he works on Halo.

The most recent Call of Duty added/is adding the AK-50 and Brandon Herrera said he was never contacted about it and he heard about it from a 3rd party. He isn't going to pursue anything because he thinks it's cool, but he was a little shocked at how they never reached out.

that shit is basically destiny 2 in a nutshell. all those guns look, feel and sound like fucking softairs, every time I played it I had to think of that dude crying at the gun range with the added "the shot is too lout, it hurts my shoulder...." as one of the bungie devs.

just wait till you get into cars, or even fucking race horses for your cute horsewaifu gatcha (hardmode: even more retarded japanese IP laws with a yakuza bonus stage).

If Zampella has carte blanche then it might actually be good.
It could, I view Battlefield largely in the same way I do Halo, the company seemed realized they fucked up just shitting on what the fans wanted so there making some pivots at least, its up to the corporate suits who dont even play video games to stay the fuck outta the games development, theres a chance but im sure as hell not just going to buy it anyway just because its a popular IP

you'll get shit like titanfall 2 and gonna like it.

best case it will still be more like cod than actual battlefield.

double reply since I found it by accident:

Time to delete the Battlefields to make space on my hard drive. It's the call of duty. It's been a good run.

i played Battlefield 2042 for the first time in awhile, they improved a shit ton from the horrid launch of that game, my only hope is that the suits at EA stay the fuck outta the next games development, I want 4 classes (Assault,Engineer,Support, and Sniper) ,if I wanted a Hero Shooter I would play Overwatch, thats the only thing that still annoys me about 2042. if they really have to be autistic then have character customization like they did in BFV im fine with that, I really dont understand these suits

I played 2042 up until they announced the last season, since at that point I didn't see much of a reason to continue playing.

The game got better, but I still feel like the run-and-gun movement system is very incompatible with Battlefield and makes it feel too much like Call of Duty. When I stopped playing MW2 and switched to Bad Company 2 the difference was night and day. I couldn't be nearly as recklesss and died a shit-ton whilst learning that.

Call of Duty managed to imitate Battlefield better than the inverse.

Debatable. I couldn't run and gun with Battlefield, but the TTK felt similar.

Battlefield: Hardline, the cops and robbers Battlefield, was pitched for a sequel but EA execs said no because of lower than expected sales and the political climate surrounding the Michael Brown shooting.

Dropping the Battlefield name because Hardline leaned more arcade could've helped, as he said.

I played 25 mins of 2042 and honestly.. I get the "Fun" fuck-around vibes of TF2 and SW BFII, but jesus fuck is it annoying. In one match I got to shoot at two people in a reasonable duel, and one headshot as a recon. I wanted to play engineer; no tank to buttfuck, got insta gibbed. Support: Holy shit healing needles? Kino! Best killing floor mechanic, except saving people who die in 3 shots is a waste of time. And people rather insta respawn than get defib'd, so no use there. Shit even if you could shoot a revival I'd argue it's not worth it.

So i refunded that immense $5 purchase, but I'm already thinking of rebuying it. It's dumb, it's retarded, it's an old game full of ugly cosmetics, but I do see the appeal of just mindlessly shooting shit. I wanna be 1 of 32, not 1 of 4 in an arena like Halo, but by god do I fucking hate the experience. Getting shot "in the back" was huge in BF2, your entire team would turn around to find the fucker. In these modern games it's part of the game. Except to get shot from all directions non-stop. AAAAAA

Battlefield stopped being a team game fighting for the objective. In previous games you didn't even need a mic, people knew what to do and work together.
DICE decided to cater to the CoD people who run around, die and respawn. That said, sometimes you have medics who walk past you and don't revive.

Ive kept playing against my better judgement and I just dont feel any appeal in any of the 'classes' in 2042. It's almost as if their unique perks go against what I enjoy cause you more or less have to use them, else you're just another gun. The only way to really get more than one kill at a time is to flank, yet there's insta-death zones cause "Uhhh capture points!".

On one map we had a real frontline set up; lose the area, forced to run back 300 meters to the curated chokepoint or die. It's almost so scripted that it's satirical.
