Normally I am not a WAAC fag, I play for the vibe and try to be as flavorful as possible but, I know who will be there and they are kinda annoying so tabling them when they try to min max is fun and no one gets salty on me.
If I had my way I'd run a full company of 8 panthers and 4 jenners for the lulz, but you need people who will both enjoy that and match that "fairly" for a good game,
I'm still kinda puzzled by the pick. Classic Battletech isn't the easiest game to get new people onboard (the heritage of a very 80ies ruleset) and throwing out a starter set that needed to hyper-simplify the chassis because running a Kontio/Hammerhead with 3152 tech would be overwhelming for new players is a weird pick.
It makes sense from a pure marketing perspective: they already milked grogtech and the Clan invasions to death, no one really cares a lot about FCW and Jihad (even if the new mainline box has several FCW mechs of Mechwarrior 4 heritage) and they're pushing the IlClain hard to have some space to breathe in. Still a weird pick.
At least we got a new bug mech force pack. It's legit the first product I'm interested in in years, but it will be probably 80+ plus shipping. Oh well, back to 3d prints.

When it comes to Starter Sets it uses an extremely simplified version of the rules. Its design to get players to play the game and get the bare bones basics down, they don't even use melee combat.
Heres the record sheet that comes with the box.
They did the same with the previous starter sets, my only problem is the Kontio doesn't look like the Kontio.
