Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

In defense, there are rules for torso-mounted cockpits.
And by all measures of practicality they should be the standard. But BattleTech operates under Rule of Cool design parameters so somehow cockpits are always in a less-armored, easily-hit area. And torso-mounted cockpits just suck in general.

I don't much care for Gundam, but at least their incredibly obvious heads weren't housing the pilot.

In MWO what’re some good, reliable, somewhat more nimble assaults, Clan or IS? I’m getting decent mileage out my Dire Wolf, but I’m also getting killed by the chassi’s incredible sluggishness and bad hitboxes.

Hard to say, majority of the Assault Mechs are going to be blocky. My best guess probably a Marauder IIC.

Emphasis on the mobility and bad hitboxes. I was actually considering the blood asp because it’s faster and the giant shoulder pods, even if they’re impossible to shield, make it so you don’t have to really worry about being blocked by terrain or friendlies.

If you don't mind the Blockyness the Awesome is a solid mech to go with. The damn thing is pretty fast and decently armored.

Memeworthy but surprisingly effective.

Not many assaults are what I'd call "nimble" but I habitually played mediums. The red lasers Charger meme build moves like a nimble heavy and the DPS is honestly shocking as long as you can get close.

Blasp is not really what I'd call nimble. It can move at 64kph but it isn't really "nimble" and its hitboxes are honestly atrocious. It works best as a hill-peeker with those shoulder guns.

Holy shit, they even went with the thurible. Nice!
You know what, if I was playing BT and and my opponent brought that onto the table, I'd probably let him use it as a mace in melee. Just for the one game though and to see if he actually could, but after that I'd have to put my foot down and refuse. No way would I be risking 22 points of damage a second time.
The Tactical Operations mace is an advanced weapon, weighs one ton and takes up one critical slot for each 10 tons of a 'Mechs weight, rounded up to the nearest ton. Because there are only eight critical slots free on a hand equipped arm, no 'Mech heavier than 80 tons may mount a Tactical Operations mace. It inflicts one point of damage for each four tons of the 'Mechs total weight. Due to the extra bulk of the weapon it has a +1 hit modifier and requires a piloting skill roll, with a +2 modifier, on each missed melee attack.
But you know what, even if I did get something bashed to death by a thurible... would be a hell of a story afterwards about the BattlePope bringing the wrath of God down.

If you don't feel like giving someone free tonnage by giving them a mace, you can always have the thurible count as a club. The rules require both hands to be used (and have actuators) but that's easy enough to waive.

All for the Holiest of Bonks.

You know what, I'd totally wave the hand thing just for a chance to see the Mech Thurible in action.

Welcome back, gentlemen.

Saw this mech and I must say I want it.

The only thing I don't really like is the Plasma Cannon on it.
BattleTech started as an anime ripoff, and with this it goes full circle back into anime.

Even the Plasma Cannon isn't that bad. It's 3 tons and 1 crit for at worst 2 and at best 12 heat out to 18 hexes, with an average of 7-8. Aim it at anything that might be going a bit warm (most Assaults by 3085) and you're almost guaranteed to inflict a -1 MP and likely a +1 firing penalty on the next turn, and you'll also likely force them to ease off on which guns they fire then. Hit someone going for that toasty 10 hit at the end of the turn with a perfectly average 7 heat and they're going to be eating a -3 MP/+3 firing penalty next turn. That shit is crippling.

And it even works with the Targeting Computer. Which is a nice bonus.

Annoyingly, Moon is an exclusive Clan War Crimes Smoke Jaguar name.
Yeah I just realized Moon is a Smoke Jaguar Name.

Also I've been delving into all the Mechs that where invented after 3100 and honestly there are some real gems i like...For example the Juliano.

A good amount of post-Jihad designs are actually really nice. They're not optimized by any means (and they shouldn't be), but they're perfectly workable machines. Or they're just fun memes like the Kontio and the Awesomann PopeMech Regent. Oh, and the Recognition Guide: IlClan 7 version of the Incubus. I know it's essentially the stock Incubus and I know I said this before but damn did they do a good job reworking that ridiculous thing.

I'm particularly happy that the Mixed-Tech 'Mechs rarely use more than just a few pieces of Clan-spec gear. Even with the Sea Foxes selling everything to everyone, that shit still doesn't grow on trees.
